Mike Shanahan said he spoke with Titans coach Jeff Fisher during the draft for information on Jay Cutler. But Shanahan must have known something about Cutler before he spoke to Fisher. Why?
Because a current member of the Broncos organization has already coached Cutler in the past.
Who is it?

I am totally stumped.
Here's some for you though.
A. Which current Denver Bronco rushed for an average of 20 yards per carry over a full season?
B. Which poster's username is that of a former Bronco who never started a single game for the team?

Well Ed Lambert has ties to Vanderbilt.

He coached there for ten years. He never coached Cutler, though. Cutler's first year with Vandy was Lambert's first year with the Broncos (2001). So they never even met.
Still looking.

It is Lambert. The info on the team's website is incorrect. According to the Rocky Mountain News, Lambert was hired by the Broncos on June 1, 2002. He coached at Vandy in 2001, Cutler's first year, and also attended his high school games, presumably to scout him. Here are the links:

Well, he was redshirted as a freshman, and Lambert coached the running backs. But they did run the option, so I suppose he was coached by him some. That's pretty interesting.

That 20.1 refers to yards per catch, but I am talking about rushing yards.
Corrington started 1 game in 1990.

Lambert was also the offensive coordinator there. Since Lambert was attending his games, and I doubt Vandy had enough scouts to send more than one...I imagine there's a good possibility that Lambert is the guy who recommended he play QB with the Commodores. Remember, the other schools, Indiana, Duke, etc...wanted him to play safety, and Illinois backed out at the last minute. So maybe Lambert is the guy who got him started at QB and the guy who put a bug in Shanny's ear as well...we'll probably never know but it's interesting.

Well, he was only the offensive coordinator one year (1997) after which he was moved back to running backs. While I don't know about who recruited Cutler to play at Vandy, or who pushed the staff there to pursue him, on the pro level there were plenty of guys from around the league who had seen Cutler play and put a good word in for him to probably all the pro-coaches. SEC is as close to the NFL as you can get in terms of athelete size, speed, strength and whatnot. Good players in that division never go unnoticed.
