HAHAHA! I totally missed that telecast because I attended the game. Thanks for sharing.
Sutcliffe is employed by the Padres as a minor-league pitching instructor. He also throws batting practice to the big league club during spring training. I hope this incident doesn't cost him his job.

Ah, he's a jovial drunk. Fairly harmless. But funny, no Joe Willie, but funny.

It shouldn't. He was just a guess in the booth because he used to split games with Mud Grant. If anything the producer should get the axe for putting a guy who was watching the game, while double fisting barley pops on the air.
In reality...it's not a big deal. People get blitzed. So what?

I agree that it's no big deal. I thought all the criticism Broadway Joe received was overblown, too.
I don't even think the producer should be at fault for this. The interview was entertaining. That is the object of the telecast. A 162 game baseball season needs moments like this to keep the viewing audience tuned in.

I agree that no fault should be assigned. I was just pointing out that if they had a problem with Sut's "performance"...they should look at the person who put him on first. He was hammered.
There are just so many humorless dicks out there that will complain, and cause problems. They'll pull the old "I don't want my child exposed to that type of behavior" schtick.
I for one enjoy a good natured drunk. Sometimes I'm one myself.
(Off Topic: What does everyone think about that fag who's suing the Angels for discrimination because at last year's mother's day game they handed out tote bags [that's right...f'ing tote bags] to women 18 years and up. The Angels eventually gave the ass clown 4 tote bags of his own. But he insisted on suing, and he's asking for $4,000 for each person who didn't receive a bag. I believe that the Angels have decided to go ahead and give out the tote bags to anyone who wants them this year.)

Big freakin' deal. Our president AND vice president have DUI's or have been arrested for DUI's on their record. I'm sure they were stumbling drunk when they got pulled over. That didn't stop 56 million people from voting for them. If it is good enough for the moral leader of our society, I say it is good enough for Rick.
Sutcliffe was on his leisure when he got hammered. Good for him. They should have known better than to bring an obviously hammered man into the booth to do an interview.

Convicted of Drunk Driving, and Lied to Cover It Up
George Bush now admits that he was convicted of drunk driving. On September 4, 1976, a state trooper saw Bush's car swerve onto the shoulder, then back onto the road. [The Bush camp spin that he was driving too slowly is simply a lie.] Bush failed a road sobriety test and blew a .10 blood alcohol, plead guilty, and was fined and had his driver's license suspended. His spokesman says that he had drunk "several beers" at a local bar before the arrest. Bush was 30 at the time. He now says that he stopped drinking when he turned 40 because it was a problem.
More troubling, Bush lied in denying such an arrest, and still won't take responsibility for his actions. His first reaction was to blame Democrats and Fox News -- the only openly conservative TV network -- for reporting the story. "Why [was this reported] now, four days before the election? I've got my suspicions." He refused to say what his suspicions are, though. Bush admits covering up the story, but seems to think he has no responsibility for the failure of his cover up.

Tricky Dick Cheney has a COUPLE of DWI's. Where would this great nation be without the moral leadership bestowed upon us by the White House. God bless em'.

I agree with you. I do find some fault with the producer because he should have been looking out for Sutcliffe better than that. If you listen at the beginning, its sounds like he was reluctant to come on the air and they called him into the booth.
Regarding the Angels fan: they should wrap a tote bag around that guy's head and shove him backwards down a hill.

Hey, at least he used proper English.... "I COULDN'T care less about the Jets having a rought year."
It really pissed me off when people say "I COULD care less," because all the does is imply that you do care to a certain degree.
