Is there even a grey one in this year's field. Na I usually make my pick by the confirmation of the horse...if he has a powerful hip, think legs, muscle tone

Well, this is the 3rd year that a Philadelphia based horse will run for the roses (Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex). I will go ahead and take another Philly based horse and take Babaro.

Flashy Bull is a dark grey horse. He also has Philadelphia ties as one of his 17 owners is Flyers Defensemen Chris Therien.
Flashy Bull has zero chance of showing let alone winning.

20 entries this year. At least two horses that are undefeated and a few on winning steaks of 4 or more coming in.
I put down a smallish wager on Steppenwolfer (I'm no expert handicapper).

You know, the term upset comes from horse racing. The first use of the word comes from when the horse "Upset" raced "War Admiral" and won. Ever since then, when the underdog wins, its been termed an "upset".
Saw that on this show called "Assume The Position". Didnt know that and thought it was cool so I shared.

Didn't know that, one of the few things in life you knew and I didn't :)
Eleven days later, on August 13, 1919, came a race they are STILL talking about, and one which undoubtedly earned Saratoga its nickname as "the house of upsets" and the "graveyard of favorites". This was the Sanford Memorial. Chief opposition was to come from Golden Broom, at level weights. Upset was not considered much of a threat - Man o'War had already beaten him in their last meeting, although Upset would again carry 15 lbs less.
These were the days before starting gates, and the group circled, approached the starting line as a team, and were released by signal of the starter's flag. On this day, Man o'War was still circling when the flag fell, and was in fact, not even yet facing the right direction. It was a horrible for him - the group was gone before he got himself righted, placing him at a distinct disadvantage in this 6 furlong race. He shot straight away after them, and very soon had passed Captain Alcork, The Swimmer and Armistice. Assuming the rail would be the shortest route, jockey Loftus steered Big Red to the rail and aimed for the leader, Golden Broom. Upset was challenging for the lead, and Donnacona was starting to fade. Unfortunately, Donnacona was on the rail also, and Man o'War was forced to check go to the outside to continue his run. The 130 lbs was beginning to tell on Golden Broom, and he relinquished the lead to the courageous Upset. Man o'War continued to close resolutely, but ran out of track with a half length to go.
It was an unfair start, and Man o'War was boxed into a hopeless position during the running. Despite the injustice, Man o'War was heaped with glory for a superhuman effort in defeat. Everyone at Saratoga that day knew the best horse had not won. Upset would face Man o'War a total of six times in their careers, and would lose all the other meetings, but his single victory, a feat no other horse could claim, was enough to immortalize him.
Ten days later Man o'War avenged his loss with a triumph in the Grand Union Hotel Stakes. Upset was relegated to his more familiar second-place position.

I was rooting for Lawyer Ron. The Arkansas Derby winner has won four of the last six Triple Crown races over the past two years. In 2004 Smarty Jones won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and last year Afleet Alex won the Preakness and Belmont. This year Lawyer Ron has to win the Preakness and Belmont to keep the same pace.

I wouldn't put a lot of money on that. Barbaro looks like the real deal. Undefeated, and untested. Edgar Prado didn't even go to the whip at all in the Derby and Barbaro ran off from the field. That's style. First horse since Seattle Slew to win the Derby with a 5 week layoff. He'll be tough to beat at Pimlico.

I was only half listening, but I gues the 6.5 lengths were the most in like 40 years or something. I guess they rested him 5 weeks and it paid off, and might again in the preakness.
Two things I will always remember about the ponies, Secretariat busting the record at and winning by I can't remember, 23 I think, and Smarty Jones grit when she? stumbled then ran like she was shot out of a howitzer.

I can't say this speaks too highly of your memory. Secretariat broke the rack record in the Derby, but only won by 3-4 lengths. He broke the track record at the Belmont and won by 32 there.
Smarty Jones is a male, and it was Afleet Alex who stumbled (in the Preakness) last year and still went on to win; not Smarty who had a clean trip when he won it 2 years ago.
