Hadn't seen much on this guy here ... this is the NFL.com Draft Report

Reminds me a bit of ... ahem! ... Jeb?

That's what I'm worried about. We got a Jeb clone...nothing more, nothing less...

I think what can seperate him from Jeb will be red zone effectiveness thanks to his superior size. Jeb caught a total of 2 TDs the last two seasons (0 last season).

I think that what seperates him from Jeb is his short area quickness. Jeb was not explosive out of his breaks. Scheffler is supposed to be much better and coming quickly out of his breaks. Sundquist said something to this effect in his Q & A on the broncos website.

Maybe he will develop as a blocker and become more than Jeb. Appears to have more real athleticism than Jeb.

That report is off. I guess he is a good downfield bloker just not as good at the line. Either way he's faster and taller then Jeb. He looks more lie Witten then Putz, but thats just my opinion.

basically a putz clone,
Not really. Apparently his route running, quickness, explosiveness at the line and hands are all supperior. He also does well blocking in the run game. It's the pass game that needs work.

Putz was an average receiver and a poor blocker. This guy is a superior receiver and a bellow average blocker.

so a SUPER - Putz, with the potential to be better! :D

A Witten type sounds about right tho.

The thing is if Putz wasn't going to get it after 4 yrs he is never going to get it. This guy almost seemed irritated by the notion he could not become a good blocker. I really like this pick and it was a sigh of relief when we passes on Pope.

Witten was a third round pick, but odds are he would go in the first if they had to do it again. Still I like our pick, he has speed. :)

A lot faster tah JEb and he sfaster than Vernon Davis in the 3 cone , the shuffle and both the 10 yrd and 20 yrd split which is waht counts the most in getting separation from LBs and safeties that wil lbe trying to cover him.

That major speed difference off the line compared to 'Molasses-boy' Jeb plus his height advatage should pay big dividends in the red zone.

The guy seems like a tough and intense dude as well and has fabulous hands as his highlight tape shows.

Hope he picks up the O quickly and learns how to block. Now that he is full time football his strength should improve as well.

But it's too soon to tell
It's too soon to say
Maybe someday I'll be able to wish you well
But right now, it's just too soon to tell

Even if he is like Putz he is cheaper and that is the key. I do think he can learn to block and given a few years could be a decent TE.

Sheffler is faster then Putz, has better hands then Putz, and already is a better blocker then Putz, because he wants to block. Putzier was a solid tightend. Sheffler should be better then solid.

I don't know what Scheffler has in common with Putz. I see these guys as different players. I think Scheffler will be better than Putzier ultimately. I think Alexander still has a mortal lock on the starting spot.

Putz made some big plays, too bad his blocking sucked.

Minor correction: Smaller college football program, but the school is not small. More undergrad students than CU boulder 27K to 26K.

The more I learn about Scheffler the happier I am with this pick. Broncos tend to buy into players they draft. I am pretty glad they got this one. :strong:

Yea.

Scheffler ran a 4.6, and was first in the 10 and 20 yard as well as the shuttle drill.

Scheffler has a better demeanor for a tight end. Just watch his forty. Jeb was all "aw shucks" when someone kicked his A$$, I think Scheff has a little more Shockey in him.

putz actually blocked pretty well downfield and did that block and run to the flat thing pretty well until he got JACKEd up by asante samuel and others. think well get more yac from chef than we did from ol' jebbediah

I have met Scheffler and seen him play in person (spring practice) and play baseball while I was covering WMU games, he's a hard worker and impressive for a guy his frame.

He has a chance to become a solid NFL TE. The reason people have questions about him is because he comes from a small school football conference wise (the campus is enormous BTW) and he was injured his sophomore year.
