I'm leaving for Hawaii friday and will be gone until 5/22... I'm getting married :sunshine:
We are going to get married on the beach in Maui and then leave everyone else behind as we go to Kauai. Its my first trip to Hawaii. I'm looking for sugestions reguarding things to do -- the kind of things that "you must see/do at all costs"
I appreciate any input... Thanks

Uh, get a tan b/c your woman is going to see some huge muscly dark men when you guys hit the beach.
Congrats and have fun - take a helicopter ride around the island, expensive but soooooo fun and just beautiful. Well worth the $400.

How long are you gonna be there. On Kauai go to KoKe'e State PArk at the top of Waimea Canyon ( Grand canyon of the Pacific) and Hanalei and Napali coast.

I am typing this from Kauai as we speak. Got in yesterday and the weather is perfect. Around 80 today, mostly sunny... and there is always a chance of rain as this place is the wettest in the world.
Staying in Princeville in Northern Kauai, Went surfing today and it was perfect. Flat, no wind and 1 to 2 times over head on the big sets. Hardly any nightlife here and the hotels are very expensive to party at. Where are you two staying while here? I am gonna be here thru the 12th, email me and maybe we can get together... I will buy the first round.

We are at the Grand Hyatt in Kaui.. but we don't get there until the 14th. We're in Maui until then. Would have been cool though... thanks

Poipu Beach in Kauai is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Plus it's not as crowded as a lot of other places. Visit the village of Poipu, it's very cool.
In Lihue, they have adventure tours that take you cayaking down a river (very calm, no rapids at all) and on a tour through the Kauai praries. Some cool movie scenes from Jurassic Park and Outbreak were shot there. Get to do some light hiking and sight-seeing as well. Very cool.
Do a whale watch if it's in season. I don't think so, since they usually mate around March or so, so I advise doing a parasailing gig somewhere. Hanalei is your best bet.
The fern grotto isn't what it used to be, but I think it's cool anyway.
Waimea canyon is also gorgeous, and it's all in a drive. No unnecessary tours involved at all.
Where are you staying on Kauai?

SodakBronco and Crushisback,
Make sure you call and make a reservation on Paragon sail and set up some snorkle trips with them. Theses guys are awesome sailers and use superfast
Catamarans that have set many speed records in the Maui/Lanai Channel. Here's is a link to that trip:
http://www.sailmaui.com/molokini.htm
They have a morning trip from Kihei side to The small horseshoe shaped crater island called Molokini for deep water snorkling that is cool and yet the very best trip they do is a fabulous Lanai sail and snorkle day trip in which they sail across the channel from Lahaina Maui to the remote east coast of Lanai to one of the most beautiful and remote Bays anywhere on earth called Manele Bay for awesome snorkling and picnic on the beach.
Everyone of my firends that I've told to do that Lanai Sail/snorkle trip has agreed that it was one of the highlights of their entire Hawaiian vacation. Here is a link to that trip:
http://www.sailmaui.com/lanai.htm
Also, make sure you go to the Kaanapali and Lahaina side on West Maui for some great grinds, and if you like golf there are som awesome courses just up the road from Kaanapli at Kapalua and Mokuleia and Honolua Bays are there which have great snorkling a a nice point break for surfing.

For a taste of really remote Hawaii, an all day outing (you should leave early in the morning) is to take the 3 + hour drive to Hana around the north eastern side of Haleakala Crater (the 10,500 high volcano on Maui).
That drive to Hana has some incredile coastline vistas from all these valleys and water falls aong this small winding road and Hana is really laid back and has the real old Hawaii charm and there is place called dSeven Sarcred Falls back ther enear HAna that is beautiful when running. George Harrison used to live ther as did Charles Lindbergh and other rich folks looking for the quiet life.
You absolutely must drive up to the top of Haleakala one day as well, its an incredible view and the crater is like the surface of Mars! On the way up stop in little towns like Haiku, Kula and Maakawao and there is even a little winery on the upper slopes and there are many yucaliptis forests. The local relief of mountains in the Rockies is around 4 to 6 thousand feet max, when measured from valley towns like Aspen or Crested Butte, but from the coast line on Maui the mountains jump straight up to 10,500 feet true local releif and they look HUGE! ON the big island the two volcanos are well over 13,000 feet from the beach at their base!
http://www.hawaiiweb.com/maui/html/s...la_crater.html
Make sure you take a jacket for the top and an umbrela or parka just in case. Try to go on a day with plenty of sunshine forecast, and if you can get a weather report that shows a high likelihood for relatively clear skies its really worth getting up at 3 am one day and driving up for the sunrise, or better yet perhaps stay one night at a small Bed & Breakast half way up the mountain and start off at around 4:30 am to get to the top before sunrise. It can be a truly cosmic expereince of a lifetime as the sun comes up over billowing clouds below the Haleakala crater and the shimmering Pacific ocean so far below! You will also see the twin 13,000 peaks of the two volcanos on the Big Island just across the channel too , and you can also see Lanai, Molokai and even Oahu in the distance toward to west from the crater.
If you are really adventurous, you can ride up to the crater with a group in a big van with rented bikes on it and then ride the bikes all the way down Haleakala which is awesome if you can handle a bike reasonably well. You'll burn through a pair of break pads on the way down and have some breathtaking views!

In Lahaina there is a classic Old Hawaiian Luau right on the beach that you can eat and soak up the culture a bit, if you and you wife enjoy that kind of thing, with Polynesian dancers and the whole nine yards right at sunset over the ocean.
http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/index_main.html
Also there is a cool passenger submarine called Atlantis Submarine off the coast of Lahaina that is very cool to take a trip on. The whole thing from buying your tickets to returning to shore is about 2 hours with about 55 minutes under water at depths around 120 feet or so. Each seat has a huge 3 foot diameter 5" thick plexiglass window in front of it and you can see a million and one tropical fish , green sea turtles, sharks, Moray Eels and the like as you cruise around these deep reefs both natural and man made and some sunken ships.
Here is a link to the Maui Atlantis Sub:
http://www.atlantisadventures.com/de...ons.php?site=8
Be sure you call ahead for reservations on that as well.
What side of the island are you staying at? There are some nice beaches at Makena near Kihei and Kaanaplai have some of the best beachins in the world , as does the north shore of Oahu.
Its a little late in the year for the surf break off the north-west cost of Maui called Peahi, also known as "Jaws", to be pumping which is the largest surf break in the world. But in April we still get some 15+ foot days along the North SHore here on Oahu.
Also Crushisback may still see some Humpback whales though by mid April its getting to the tail end of their migration season.
Anyway, thats a start! Let me know if you have any other questions and enjoy your visit.
Aloha!

This link is to a cool NaPali Cliffs cruise around the shear cliffs on the north west coast of Kauai that are inaccessble by car. Fabulous stuff!
Maui will keep you plenty entertained as well.

Lived in Hawaii for along time, about twenty years. Moved because got tired of "no seasons" and a bit of "rock" fever. Oh yeah, bought a house in '86 out there, sold it in 2005. It was time to reap the rewards for the risk if you know what I mean. Nice place to go on vacation, wouldn't want to live there anymore. At least not on Oahu. Maybe Maui. However, enjoy yourself, and enjoy the afternoon "daily" rain. It pretty much is a given in certian spots on the islands...dman
