I've been thinking of going on a real vacation this fall, not like going to Colorado, again, or Cancun like we do every year. I'll still go to Colorado, on opening day to see my beloved Bronco's play KC, but I've really had the desire to go to Africa and see some wildlife.

The wife wants to go to Victoria Falls, I want to see some lions, tigers, elephants, etc. The one I was looking at is
African Safari Tour: Mala Mala
Found them on http://www.go2africa.com/luxury-safaris.asp

Anyone ever gone on one of these, know any particluar places to go, places you recommend, places to stay away from?

TIA

Never have. It does kinda intrigue me.

My grandfather and uncle did in Kenya.

Sure haven't Hades but I definetly would like to go on one someday. I saw a travel show on safaris a few weeks ago. They are alot more pricey than I thought so definetly shop around. There seem to be several standard options.
1) Stay in a place a day trip from there
2) Find a safari that packs everything and moves. Not sure if you are travelling with kids or not but this option sure seemed like fun.

You might try trip advisors for some feedback from people who've been there on their messageboards.

Saw a TV show on PBS last night about Lions. There was a resort where half of the cost of staying there is used to protect the lions. Apparently the lions roam freely and guests have woken up in the morning ot find lion tracks outside their rooms.

Can't remember the name though...sorry.

I saw a show on Discovery HD a few weeks ago, really got me even more interested in going there! We usually use Nordstrom Travel (yes the store Nordstroms), haven't checked with them about it yet, but will. Just wanted to start looking around and seeing if anyone had any tips. It will be pricey, wife thinks it will be around $15K for two weeks for both of us. I'm thinking sleepign in a tent and spending half that sounds good!

If the wife wouldn't get sea sick, I'd take the ice breaker ship thing to the Antarctic. Some friends went a few months ago. Talk about some great pictures! Freezing cold, but looked cool as heck!

I want to do that as well Hades but the wife absolutely hates cold weather. I'm having a hard enough time convincing her to go to Alaska during the summer. Damn hot spoiled Texas chicks.
