I say we give him a Roethlisberger clone of a contract(Six-year, around $48 million contract with a signing bonus around $956 thousand).....they were both taken in the same slot, and into simliar posistions......What kind of contract do you guys think we should give him?
Length? Money?

It's going to be more since the Salary Cap is much higher.
Let Leinart slot him if you ask me, we're in a good position signability-wise, since a QB was taken directly before him. As long as Leinart signs quickly we'll have easy negotiations with Cutler.

6 year/34 mil, 3 million dollar signing bonus would be a decent first offer.
Or, 16 years/110 million. Just to make sure he will never go anywhere.

One thing that I have mentioned is that an 11 pick doesn't have near the cap ramifications as a top 5. This was a great draft. We also moved our 22 for two seconds. I'm sure Walker's deal is complicated, but we wern't going to get him any cheaper off that ACL.

Cowboys signed DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware, the 13th pick of the NFL Draft, to a five-year contract with $13 million.
The deal includes $10 million in guarantees. Ware is the prototype 3-4 DE/OLB 'tweener. Bill Parcells hopes to use him immediatley as a starter, in a similar role to the one Willie McGinest plays in New England.

It says he was the 13th, but Ware was the 11th pick last year.

Are you out of your mind? The number 1 pick Mario Williams got 6 years 54 million.

This year Cutler's contract will be right around the same as Leinart's and both will be similar to Ware's last season. Given the fact that the salary cap has gone up and that he is a quarteback that means he will probably get around a 6yr 17million dollar deal with about 12million guaranteed.

If we go republican with him does that mean we're conservative or willing to throw large sums of money away?

Well it's either someone willing to attack a defense, or a Democrat who would prefer to go over to the other team and talk them into a tie.

Having Walker and Cutler going into free agency potentially the same year would scare me, prefer to offset thier potentially huge demands to different years just to be safe

With the sal. cap going up this year and he is a QB he isnt going to be cheap but on a positive note Cutler did say he wasnt going to hold out for a large amount and wouild meet in the middle (more or less what he said at the conf. yesterday).

The CBA clamped down a bit on how much rookie contracts can go up from year to year. He's not going to get almost $4M more over the life of his deal compared to Ware being drafted in the same spot last year.

He's slotted, the only thing he'll get over any other position at that spot are some escalators.

If you want to count the escalators, then yeah he'll have a chance to earn more than any other position.
But then again, I don't think anyone here would be unhappy if the Broncos had to give JC a $500k bonus for winning the SB. The Steelers had to give Big Ben something similar to that for advancing to the SB and then winning it this offseason.

in his press conference he has said, "he didn't want to break anyone, just pay me and lets play ball."

That's what i get for using Wikipedia as my source for Big Ben's contract.....
On August 4, 2004 Ben signed his first contract with the Steelers, a 6-year, $14 million contract with an $8 million 2009 roster bonus, and was touted by Steelers coach Bill Cowher in a press conference as a franchise quarterback. -- From Big Ben's site.
OKAY then....how about something like that?
