Just some random reflections from my crystal ball, after the draft....

* I LIKE the choice of Jay Cutler. He may not be "the next Elway," but nobody ever will be. What he will be is the franchise QB of the next 15 years barring injury. I can live with that.

* John Engleberger to the white courtesy phone please. You looked good in camp last year but completely disappeared during the season. Your roster spot is now seriously at risk between Elvis Dumervil and Corey Jackson.

* P.J. Alexander to the white courtesy phone please. I hope you've been working REAL hard on rehab from the knee injury when you rolled your ATV last summer.

* Darius Watts to the white courtesy phone please. This is it, dude, your make-or-break training camp. If you can't rebuild your confidence and remember to CATCH the ball, you won't make it to the final cut. Not this year.

* Bradlee Van Pelt to the white courtesy phone please. Here, try on these larger shoulder pads. Yes, you're right, they are sized for running backs. You say you'll do anything to make the roster and help the team? At 6'2" and 220, let's talk...

* We've talked a little about Jackson, but I just saw his numbers on the Bronco site. I didn't realize this guy is 6'-freakin'-EIGHT. There's only one other guy on the roster, backup tackle Erik Pears, who can match that height. The catch, of course, is that Jackson weighs 265 at 6'8". Kinda skinny now, but I'll bet he'll weigh more come training camp. (Pears is 305.)

* Who the hell are Landon Trusty, Josh Buhl, Preston Parsons, Khaleed Vaughn & Taylor Whitley? Camp/practice squad fodder, no doubt, but congrats, guys: you just got your names mentioned on the Internet.

* No safety drafted? No problem. Brandon Browner should be back for an extensive workout in camp, and there may be a UDFA coming in too. Remember how Browner shot up the sarety depth chart last year before breaking his arm? Ferguson is still young and solid, tho not great, and Lynch should be good for one (maybe two) more years. Yes, Lynch is slowing down, but he hasn't lost his field smarts and still gives good run support.

Regards,
m.

I think the FO has built a good team and coaching staff. I'm impressed. They're counting a lot on Javon Walker, and I'm not. There's going to have to be some WR's that are on the roster prior to Javon that are going to have to produce this year, besides Rod.

Plummer, I can find faults with the guy, but no way I hang the inefficient passing O on Jake completely. I made a point of looking at who was open last year in the holes the opposing defenses provided, and what did I see? Rod. I saw some huge holes in opposing passing D's, and I saw Plummer waiting and waiting for somebody, anybody to run into those huge holes. It didn't happen. I think if the staff can teach some of these receivers to keep their eyes open and run away from defenders, Jake is gonna have a great year.
