View Full Version : Does Plummer have the fortitude to be like Brees in '04?

Brees in '03, pre-Phillip Rivers = 11 TDs, 15 INTs
Phillip Rivers gets traded to San Diego in the '04 Draft.
Brees since = 51 TDs, 22 INTs
Having Rivers there seemed to really offend Brees, and he lifted his game immediately. There are some real parallels with Plummer's current situation.
There are, of course, some things that don't match: namely, Brees was 25 when they drafted Rivers, and he was coming off an abysmal season. But still, I would like to think that Plummer plays with a chip on his shoulder the next year or two, and at 32, ends up with a nice contract somewhere else.

Jake's a fighter and will land on his feet in a year or two. Shanahan won't hand the keys to the Ferrari if Cutler doesn't earn it. This isn't Bubby Brister we are talking about...oh wait a minute...Ha!

Oh man. Your quite the comedian Bob. The whole core of the team is back except Pryce and we just had a fantastic draft. We also have guys like Duke and Browner and Myers in the wings.
I think he'll fight. He's always been a scrapper. Is he good enough to win the super bowl. It comes down to that.
Super bowl or bust for Jake. I hope he steps up.

Plummer is what he is and it will never change.
I'll give the Rat props for seeing this and going out and getting his eventual replacement.
Yes Bunkley would have probably made more of an impact this season but Cutler will be a long term starter for you guys.
Draft for talent, not for need.
The mules had a nice weekend all things considered.

Congrats on your team getting Reggie Bush mock.

Wishful thinking. You are smart enough to know that anyone else but the Broncos winning the AFC West next year would be a big upset.
The only positions you could reasonably argue they haven't at least held serve with are DE and TE. And the only team Trevor Pryce ever seemed to show up to play was the Chiefs. He was underwhelming last year. And it isn't as if our TEs were world-beaters last year, so it hasn't dropped of significantly - if at all. Everything else is either at least as strong as it was in '05, or dramatically improved.

Dude is handsome isn't he?
I guess we will never have to worry about him going Hollywood on us.

Dude.
Compared to this guy Gallery is Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Fabio all rolled into one.
His parents must have lost a bet with God.
Those are some ****ed up genes.

In two of the last three seasons, Plummer has been among the top 6-8 quarterbacks in the NFL performance wise. He's already come a long ways and I don't think there's much room for improvement.

Did anyone hear his (Paul McQuistan) interview on NFL Radio on Thursday or Friday? Wow. It was painful. He has zero personality, and doesn't seem terribly smart. Everything was one-word answers. And at the end, when they have had all the prospects they interview sing their college fight songs, the best he could come up with was "Weber State, great great great!"
I think its a bit different...
Brees was still young when the drafted Rivers...maybe 26 years old? Plummer will be 32 this season.
Brees had experienced no success when they drafted Rivers. Plummer is coming off 3 consecutive playoff appearances, an AFC championship game, a Pro-Bowl caliber season, and his best statistical year in terms of turnovers.
Rivers was brought into take the job from Brees....Cutler is brought in to eventually replace Plummer.
Cutler will hold the clipboard this year - I don't doubt that one bit. We may even see Plummer the starter in '07 with Cutler waiting in the wings the first 3 TO game Plummer has. I think it really depends on how far Plummer takes us next year...
