I think Shanahan blew it

We had the ducks lined up and all the picks needed to improve at four different positions over last year and what did Shanny hans do? His eyes got too big on day one -- he pissed away our advantages. Did we need to pick a franchise QB this year? No!

Instead of a premium pass rusher we got a runt DE. People knock Pryce but he was double teamed all last year -- which won't be the case this time around.

Mind you I'm not faulting the Walker deal...

We were -- what? -- 29th against the pass last year yet Shanny picked no safety -- unless of course he plans to convert our second day WRs into defensive backs ???

And then there is Sheffler who as Rohirimm says probably would have gone undrafted yet we take him in the second. So in effect we turned loose a decent but nothing special Putz who couldn't block and replaced him with a mediocre TE who can't do, likewise.

Go ahead Shanny me boy, prove me wrong. Transform all of these rough diamonds into a superbowl run and I will be the first to bow down and even swallow my shorts in full praise oh guru coach. But I seriously doubt this will happen. sigh. There goes another year.

That's how good he projects Cutler to be...and I'd think after all this tiem more people would trust the judgement. Now...did we got enough Hokies to turn the tide....no...I'll agree with that argument, but Shanahan...despite his hokie prejudice...did a good job with Ted.

According to some of the draft experts we just landed the best QB in this draft for the 11th pick. Anything else in this draft was a bonus after that. Take a wee look at the team who beat us in the AFC Championship game and the guy holding their reins

Denver's opponents had the fourth lowest passer rating in the NFL. Pass defense was NOT a problem in 2005.

No offense my friend, but you are insane.

This...these last two days, folks, has been a franchise draft.

Only time will tell for real validation, of course, but for the first time in Shanahan's tenure, this team effectively addressed a majority of it's needs for this upcoming season...and the immediate future.

Perhaps one of those fourth rounders will have to find a place on the Practice Squad, but I'd be hard pressed to name someone drafted today & Saturday that WON'T make the 2006 roster.

Day 1 was sexy with the Cutler selection & the Walker trade, but day 2 was a bonanza...these will be receivers & linemen who will anchor Denver's offense for years to come, I really do believe that.

I am as stunned as I am elated for this franchise...just unbelievable great work by everyone.

A+++ no damned doubt about it...wow!

Just wish they had a couple more picks to spend on defense.

I think Shanny & Co are telling the team, "Hey, this is your chance. This is your opportunity. We're giving it to you because you like us, and we like you." So we'll see what happens. The FO could have gone the ruthless, cutthroat route, but they didn't, and now you have your 2006 Denver Broncos. I think the AFC West Champs have been challenged by their coaching staff, and we'll see how it plays out. This now is the Denver Broncos for 2006.

This rookie 'phi beta kappa' poster sure knows how to start off his presence on the Mane!

Announces to one and all that he doesn't have a clue right from the get go!

He assumes grabbing a franchise QB is something you just go out and pick up at the local 'Stop 'n Go' once you realize you've run out of beer!

Almost NEVER does a winning team have a chance to pick up a guy like Cutler.

One of the few times that has happened in recent memory was when the Steelers grabbed Rothlisberger (also at pick 11) after their one crap year in a long time. They then proceeded to show just how valuable a true franchise QB can be to a winning team with a solid coach!

NE lucked out with Brady which was about as likely as getting struck by lightening.

Shanny did himself, the city of Denver and all of us the biggest favor he could have by having the balls to step up and grab Cutler!

Jake is a decent QB and everyone likes him personaly, but he has limitations that are very difficult to overcome all the way.

Plus look what bringing Rivers in did for Bress that past two years. Turned him into a Pro Bowl QB! That either happens with Jake and then Denver is the winner, or he doens't cut it and Denver is still the longterm winner in having THE guy to step right in and take over for the next 15 years.

Either way the Broncos and all of their fans benefit greatly!

Tony Scheffler looks like a steal as a tough two sport guy who will now be focused solely on football. He was the second fastest TE in the draft and actually faster in the 3 cone drill, the short shuffle and the 20yard split than was Vernon Davis! This is precisely the kind of speed a TE needs to get that critical first step and separation on LBs and safeties and get big RACs.

Putz was slow as molasses in that very area off the line which is one reason he was the all time star of the 'Jack ME Up' episode on ESPN.

This kid can CATCH too! Try watching some of the highlights from last year, he's got great hands and can really run after the catch.

Our DE and D-Line is going to be superb this year. With Kenard Lang joining Engleberger (who will get alot more rush time this year) and Eukanban and Corey Jackson coming on, we will be fine.

Elvis Dumervil not only had 10 sacks in 2004, but lead the nation last year with 20 sacks and had 11 forced fumbles! He droped off a bit torward the end of the year with some nagging injures which are all healed up and we will only use him as a situaional 3rd down rusher and obvious passing situations so he isnt likely to get worn down and could be a great addition to the pass rushing rotation.

We can let him take off after the QB and let Lynch play safety.

We've got one more year of top play out of Lynch and Furgeson and with Brandon Browner coming on strong this year after a whole year to mature and learn the Bronco defense and what it means to be in the NFL he could be HUGE for us this year, as will a newly confident Sam Brandon. Curome Cox will be better as a cover safety/dime corner this year as well.

All our rookie corners from '05 will make the typical big steps from their rookie to 2nd year and oveall we should be much more solid on defense.

Pryce wasn't even used much to rush in any event the last half of the year.

We totally revamped our receiving corp, and even if Lelie leaves, which I pray he doesn't this year, we at least have the potential to not miss a beat with Walker and a resurgent David Terrell.

Cedric Cobbs will likely be a big part of our running game this year and should provide good depth along with Cecil Sapp should Dayne or Bell get injured.

Next year we will definitely take a couple of top safeties in teh '07 draft (or maybe one safety if Browner turns into the real deal) , and a new RB and one or two LBs and a DT to keep this team rolling without missing a beat.

And Cutler will be ready to take over the reins when Jake falters or gets injured.

How anyone call this draft a bust, is beyond me! They must be more shortsighted than a mole.

If mhgaffney had been around last year, he would have been complaining about the Browncos D-line we had, and why did we waste 3 picks on CB's when we only needed one, how Putz was going to have a break-out year.

Wait, I take all that back. mhgaffney probably hadn't gotten on the :bandwagon yet.

I think it was our best day 1 draft in years. Only time will tell.

But I think the obvious thing we can take from this draft is Shanahan is telling the D that he believes they can get it done on their side of the ball and he's going to do everything he can to help them by improving the offense. By giving Jake more weapons the offense will be expected to score a few more points and help take some pressure off the D.

Anyone who thinks this is some kind of rebuilding year is clueless.

if he is smart, he is happy. we must face it, rod smith will be gone in a short time(if walker does well this year i say he is off into the sunset). that leaves lelie and walker as our receivers, a very very good, young receiving corps in the mold of chad johnson and tj houshmanzadeh or plax and hines ward were. scheffler at TE will be a nice development that could occur thi year and we havea very potent offense for years to come. lol almost forgot to add cutler to that equation. and eslinger in a year or tow i think

I sure hope it works out that way. I kind a think Shanny wants to keep Lelie too and keep the trade price so high there are no takers. Walker is still a big ??? for this year.

It would be great if Ash can get a feel for catching the long one in stride again from Cutler and see the wisdom of staying on as a far more productive and top flight #2WR, if it comes to that, than in leaving.

But I can see his point in wanting to have some chance to do more than he has this contract year too, and if he sees that Shanny has rigged the game for him not to have any offers to force him to stay this year, it could sour him on the whole deal here.

Hopefully, he'll see his best chance is to just come in and win the #1 spot straight out this year while Walker is recovering and learning the system.

Then next year he and Walker can battle it out fair and square with King Rod as a #3 or a player/coach.

Having Walker here will make Lelie excel the way having Rivers boosted Brees.

Then Terrell and Marshall can battle it out for #3 and we will have one of the best WR corp in the league with Walker, Lelie and Terrell/ Marshall.

I am hoping they go after Utah's John Madsen. This guy is going to be a good pro. He is a big guy who is deceptivly fast. ESPN says he doesn't have top end speed, and they are correct, but I saw several times where he beat the corner guarding him and outran him down the sideline. He has a huge stride, which causes him to look a little slower, but he still covers a lot of ground.
