Keep Lelie. Im sure after spending a training camp with Cutler he will see that his talents wont be wasted anymore. Jake and Ash just do not compliment each other.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan couldn’t say with complete certainty that efforts to trade Lelie were completely dead, but, he added, "I’d be very surprised if he’s not part of our organization."

He wouldn’t say whether a lack of interest in Lelie or the fact potential offers were deemed insufficient prevented the team from moving the receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were thought to be the two most ardent in their pursuit of Lelie, for whom Denver wanted a second-round pick.

But with Walker and Lelie — who’ll count a manageable $1.57 million on next year’s salary cap — apparently both in the fold to go along with stalwart Rod Smith, Denver has set itself up to have a potent, three-receiver combination next season. Former first-round pick David Terrell also is in reserve.

Indications have been that Lelie plans to participate in May’s passing camp, should no trade surface. It’s more of an expectation from the organization now.

"I think it gives him the best chance to compete," Shanahan said. "Ashley is in the last year of his contract. If you want to compete with the guys that we have on our football team and want to get better, it’s hard to do when you’re away. ? I can’t see how that would help him for his future contracts unless he comes in here and really performs at a high level next year

Might as well keep him now unless he revolts in a major way or something.

Shanny to Lelie: your weak attempt at gaining the upper hand has backfired... we have you by the balls

Keep Lelie!

Or trade him for Towlie.

Keep Lelie this year just as insurance for Walker's knee.

Then next year when Cutler starts we will have Walker and Terrell for sure, and Lelie might stick around to be part of that WR core. If not adios amigo.

I did not include Rod because frankly who knows when he will retire. Next year for sure he will be a #2 WR possibly #3 depending on the progress of Terrell.

Aside from the fact that Lelie does NOT get traded... he will be relegated to #3 on the depth chart in his contract year. Shanny's doghouse is a b!tch

I don't get this Dog House idea. Shanny has aways been about earning your spot in camp/practice. Lelie will get a fair shake and Walker will have to impress...remember Rice and all the speculation about how Shanny would give this or that?? Didn't happen.

Watch the press conference. Mike says on more that one occasion that Lelie is not helping himself by staying away... which is code for "Lelie is in my doghouse"

Keeping Lelie gives Denver a flexibility in the passing game we haven't had in long time. I expect to see all fours guys (Walker, Smith, Lelie, Terrell) cycling thru the formations to keep the defense off kilter. Dinger and Shanahan are going to cause some sleepless night for DC in NFL
