The Broncos and Walker agreed to parameters for a six-year contract extension, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said.

Excellent move by Shanahan and Co!!!

I'm suspect of his injury. I rather have kept the 2nd rounder, but Walker could return 100% and be great for Cutler.

"He's a great competitor," Shanahan said. "He has great speed, great size, very physical. He can turn a short gain into a big play. Very good blocker in the running game. That's one of the guys that I look at and call a complete receiver."

This kicks a$$.

now trade ash for a 4th and get brandon marshall. we have rod, javon, terrell and a young marshall would be great for our corps.

That was one of the more amusing arguments around here. Like we were going to dump a high draft pick on a guy without shoring up the contract.

What a great move... and 6 years, to boot! Bronco fans are going to love this guy. This will be the best production we've gotten from a 2nd round pick in ages.

Fantastic... now let's hope that knee is going to be alright.

I say keep Lelie for his contract year and let him prove his worth to the NFL, but he has to remember there are only going to be so many balls to catch during the season.

Now with Walker and Smith both pro-bowl players does Lelie really think he is going to prove anything.

Or like they will trade a high 2nd rounder and offer a big contract without looking and knowing his knee is fine first. I don't get how anyone would rather the Broncos go with an unproven rookie than a proven vet still in his prime.

You'll get no argument from me. It's even better when you factor in the Broncos history of getting production out of just about any RB they plug in there and their difficulties in finding capable receivers.

I'm very happy that Walker is a Bronco.

I would imagine the Broncos checked the knee when he was in yesterday, and even Javoin says he is jogging and will be ready for the season. You don't think he's elated? Even if he doesn't play until the first game, I believe he will bring something else to the game. Plummer's gotta love it.

It should have been a major reality check for Lelie when no team was willing to give up anything of value for him.

Shanny said they are keeping all three Rod, Ash and Walker. That makes all kinds of sense for depth reasons just in case Walker has a sset back and needs mroe time to truly heal and or anything happens to Rod.

Can you imagine the panic the defensive coordinators will have in trying to coyer Ash and Walker going deep with Rod and Terrell (or Duke/ Tony S.) across the middle on our 4 receiver sets?

Forget about it!

Wait til Cutler is really to take over the reins with that long ball of his, it would be pin ball. If we can get ASh to stay as Rod retires and Walker and Ash as #1 and #2 paired up with Cutler who can get the ball to everyone without any problems!

I can see our starting 3 WR core next year( 07) with Culter's first year as Walker, Lelie and Terrell, all first rounders maybe with Rod as a kind of Jimmy Spencer player/coach.

Not a bad line up indeed.

I hope we get the next best RB and somehow swing Ko Simpson saftey tommorrow.

Its not just Lelie though its the situation he has been in the past four years. I guarantee you if Rod Smith had been the established #1 in Green Bay the past four years, Walker would still be a disgruntled #2WR for them as well and wouldnt draw any more interest than Ash is getting now.

On the flip side, if Lelie had been drafted by GB and Walker by us 4 years ago, I suspect they would have mirror-image careers.

Lelie knows this and is the only reason he wanted out of here for chance to prove that fact. Looks like he is stuck though, but as Shanny said in his interview today "Lelie has made many huge plays for us and been a class act his whole time in Denver".

Hopefully, we can find away to make it work out for both Lelie AND Walker which would only be to our MAJOR long term benefit.

You would think so. Do you remember if he started working out seperately from the team before or after he got no bidders on the open market? I can't remember and I'm wondering where his head is.

It would be nice to have Ash for a couple more seasons, considering it is likely Rod will have retired and Cutler probably would be the QB. I think Ash would still be #2 though, Walker is more physical and a better blocker.

It would be interesting to know which deal Green Bay struck first. My impression is that the trade was already in the works before the Pats made their move. They might have assumed Denver was going to take Jackson and tried to cut in front of us.

Or, it could be that they all knew exactly what was going on, that Denver had already decided to go with Walker, and that the Pats wanted to move up to take him, regardless of what Denver planned.

I'm with you on this Old Dude...The thing is, I'm glad they did. What have Florida WR's done in the past 10 years done? I may be wrong, they've done pretty much nothing. I mean they've had a lot of guys go in the first and second round, but haven't really amounted to anything. I personally wanted Holmes, but I mostly like that he went to Pitts., b/c I live in Ohio where everybody has became a Bengals/Buckeyes fan and now have to cheer against Holmes. Anyways, I love getting this deal done. I say keep all 3 of them and have Dinger work with the three and Terrell/Watts/Devoe and improve this WR core drastically. But I think that Shanny showed faith in Walker, when they had lunch and had all of his physicals done. Only thing I want to know, is how much is gauranteed?

you forgot Toviessi too, that'd be more of a fair comparision since Walker was traded for a 2nd & Toviessi was an injured overdraft in the 2nd whereas Middlebrooks was a 1st(a horrible 1st i always hated we took)

I was laughing at that too. I can't believe people would think that we'd be that careless. The only way this day could have been better is if we drafted 3 more times in the 3rd round... but what can I say... I'm a happy man. Jay Cutler can learn from a good QB like Jake and BVP and his barhopping, CU harassing, Franchise embarrasing ass can either move to safety or take a hike!

That may well be true and it would be fabulous to have both Walker and Lelie for years to come. I'd be willing to bet the farm that Lelie would be a MUCH happier and more productive #2WR under Cutler than under Jake.

Watching how well Cutler already goes through his check downs and reads the defense and hits the right guy as shown by Jaworski in his film break down of Cutler would be a God Send for Lelie. Not to mention how much more accurate and stronger his arm is.

We could have a Rod Smith/ McCaffery kind of combo on steriods with the Walker /Lelie combo (and they are already good friends) with Cutler passing, and each guy would likely get well over 1k yards a season.

That would bring mulitple Lombardis in all likelihood :-)

It should have been a major reality check for Lelie when no team was willing to give up anything of value for him.

Well, now see, there is no way of knowing that.

The Broncos could be holding out for a second round draft choice...or a player exchange, OR...simply keeping Lelie around & not offering him to anyone.

The Broncos gave Lelie & his agent permission to shop around for a trade...not the other way around.

I'm a big fan of Lelie & still believe he'll be a terrific WR, but I also recognize that the relationship with the Broncos has soured & maybe it's for the best that he move on.

Regardless, someone is going to get a very dedicated & talented player.

Totally agree Wabbit!

Plus if we do get to keep ASh this year then we should most definitely NOT be in any hurry to rush Walker back into duty.

That could help attarct ASh to stay saying tht we are goign to ease EWalker back in slowly over teh course of teh season jsut to be sure he is truly and fully healeed and them some and give Walker the time to fully learn our system and gel with Plmmer/ Cutler before making him the guy too soon.

That could be best for all concerned and Ash could showcase his talents in teh first half of the season for next year which is what he wants in particular while waiting for Walker to get up to speed, and that way we don't risk blowing the whole Walker deal by getting him reinjured by coming back too soon.

Plus, then the Shanny and Heimerdinger could see what Ash can do in Heimerdingers new more open passign attack with a real strong arm QB during camp and preseason, as well as with Plummer, and get a whole new appreciation of what they have in Lelie.

That might also excelerate Cutler's accendency as wel. If so, in 2007 we might have a dynamite fully healthy Walker/Lelie/Terrell WR trio with Cutler at the Helm!

I could most definitely live with that!

Now that Walker is onboard, I am of course fully rooting for the guy. Just do not tell me that this move is not a major gamble. Anytime you send a high pick like that for a guy that is still not running full speed you are taking a risk. Add to it a 6 year extention with Im guessing 10 mill SB then you are taking a serious gamble with your Salary cap.

All that aside now, I hope JW can come back as good as ever and give us great WR play for the next 6 years.
