View Full Version : Broncos will draft 1-2 Quarterbacks?

A friend of a friend of a.......(you know this bs - lives in Brighton) very close to the 'research work' prepared for the Broncos war room said the draft board is officially all in place for tomorrow (they are officially done positioning players) - they are currently working through different scenarios and will, if 'the player' is still available may trade up to #8 with the Bills who are looking to move down (I would assume this to be VD - but I highly doubt he will be there). He said they have been working their arses off just getting the board together and the whole Walker deal has consumed a lot of time which may or may not be good. Further info freely released said that '1st Draft Day Plan' is predominantly offensive minded with one exception - Safety!? (huh?) Broncos really like the depth at this position in the draft and are looking at some choices that might come available in the 2nd round. Staff were instructed to do typical research and have been emphasizing the Safety/CB position.

He stated that the research compiled for the later rounds suggests a suprising 1 or 2 picks on quarterbacks, once again depending on scenarios and players available, but we will be drafting 1 OR 2 quarterbacks and will most likely draft a TE lat on the first day.

He thinks Lelie will be back next year but is now making his demands clear that he wants to be traded before the year begins but Denver is not looking to add additional 2nd round picks although they are asking at least a 2nd for Ashley. They like Lelie and would like to retain him and aren't really excited about gaining an additional 2nd round pick. Said New England has expressed a lot of interest - YIKES!

As for working on FA's deals, he said they have never been busier in his 4 years working there, this year in entertaining ideas and making phone calls back and forth - It's just an extremely limited market this year which tends to drive prices up.

No real suprises here, but it is fun nonetheless to think that the 'board' is in place and ready for tomorrow (how exciting - I'm a draft geek and couldn't help calling all day just to hear some bit of news). I sure hope we haven't lost a trading edge on this whole Javon Walker shopping spree. I can't wait to see who the real pick at #15 will be?

I doubt Denver will be selecting at 15. I'd bet a serious amount of money that they trade up or down. But if Denver stays at 15 that's not a great thing.

Thats because Belichek is a master at finding undervalued talent that hasnt been used to its full potential by other teams that lose site of the forest due to the trees with thier own players. He didnt win 3 SB in four years with hardly any true super stars for nothing!

Lelie with Tom Brady would make Tom a very happy QB! He hasnt had a barn burner that could catch yet. If we are going to lose Lelie anyway, I actually hope this happnes for Ash's sake and it will make for some very interesting revisits to the topic of Lelie at seasons end around here! :)

Lelie in NE would be killer for Ashlie and also would show the Broncos just what they once had...

No matter how many times I read that I just cant twist any of it into "With the 15th pick in the draft Denver selects Hali" :bomb:

Whether this "source" is valid or not, it does look like information that makes sense. Denver has nothing behind Jake.

Safety is a position of need, and there are plenty of nice safeties that should theoretically be available at 15, 37, and 61. An upgrade there would help Champ out alot.

It's obvious that the team is looking at several offensive positions. RB, TE, WR, maybe C & G.

I agree S is not a strong point but weaker then our Dline (DE in particular)??? Other then that an O draft is fine. I just dont see S being nearly the problem that DE/TE/WR are.

I will say a late 1st day TE that very well maybe Klop!

Okay, the only thing that made me stop reading this article, only to read the rest to see what was up is Denver has no interest in another second-rounder. Which I find hard to believe, especially since you even said, they are looking for a second rounder in regards to Lelie.

Adding 1 or 2 second day QBs doesn't do dick either

I'm buying you a beer one of these days Doc... I'm all over the Brodie Croyle band wagon now. That dude will come in a be a team favorite within a week. Player will follow that guy anywhere, that's what I want a QB!!!

DT is the problem along the line. Brown, Ekuban, Lang, and Engleberger make up a pretty good roto. Lynch in coverage is scary. Ferguson in coverage is barely adequate. Neither should be playing in the Nickel which should immediatly point to needing an upgrade. A guy like Simpson at 61 is certainly a possibility. A guy like Whitner, Allen, or Williams should they fall to 37 is almost guaranteed. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if one of those 3 were the pick at 15. Hopefully Bunkley slides some and is available. If we trade up with Buffalo it will probably be for Leinart. I would hope it was for Huff, but I doubt we'll be that lucky.

I'm not sure I want two rookie QB's (just any two I mean) I want 1 for sure and that would be Brodie Croyle. The dude has the best touch of any QB in the draft. He IS the best pure passer out there. His leadership is that of Brett Favre in his prime. His heart is that of John Elway in a 4th quarter comeback. His accuracy is that of Tom Brady. Unfortunately he's had two ACL's and is only 6'2... otherwise we'd be talking about him instead of Jay Cutler and Matt Leinart!!!

Ya I can see your point S is not exactly a strength but you wont convince me that Brown, Ekuban, Lang and Engleberger are worth a damn at putting pressure on the QB. They each may have their moments but I REALLY want more push around the ends on D.

I've been a fan of his since I watched him come to Fayetteville and pick my Hogs apart... as a freshmen, in his first start. I hated him that game, of course...

I agree with you on Croyle's abilities, but those injuries scare me. He is so skinny I am not sure he can take the beatings in the NFL. I had bigger legs when I was born.

Sorry, by all means this is not to be called an 'article' more heresay. The point with Lelie is that HE is unhappy and while Denver would like to have him back this year, their list of priorities in exchange for Lelie are to utilize him in getting a good WR and then secondly a draft pick. They most likely will not trade him unless they can get a quality FA WR. Thus, their TRUE interest is in getting a replacement WR (Veteran) and not another green horn (or 2nd round pick).

it looks like the mastermind disinformation campaign is complete. nobody has a clue where he's headed.

for my money, i want a stud RDE. a backup QB and a TE in about that order. the RDE and the TE can make an immediate impact. the QB and safety will take a while.

I don't know, the kid is TOUGH. If anything I think he just has to tone that toughness down a little. The dude will literally stand in the way of a hit so long as he can deliver a catchable pass to his WR. I like what he said about his toughness. "I grew up playing with bigger kids on the ranch, that's where I learned to be tough. If you told on somebody, you were gonna get whooped!" There was a bunch more from that article that may me realize how rare this kid was. His roots, his compassion, and despite his status he's more humble than any other prospect I've seen interviewed. He's a freaking star in Mobile, yet he's humble. This is a kid that will be able to take the good and not get to high, and take the low and not dwell. He's a born leader and a guy we need on our team! BTW, his size is very similar to Jakes when he came into the league. 6'2.5'' and 205. If I'm not mistaken Jake wasn't even 200 lbs when he played college football.

I hope it all works out for him. Shula has done a great job of turning that Alabama program around. Have you noticed how all of the senior on that team are written up as high character, quality students and leaders.

I think we should spend all our picks on QBs. All of them.

Saturate drafting QBs could be a stroke of genius because the probability that one of them will turn out to be the QBOTF is really really high.
