Broncos | C. Garner may try a comeback
Fri, 28 Apr 2006 06:30:06 -0700

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports free agent RB Charlie Garner (Buccaneers) may attempt a comeback in 2006 and he has contacted the Denver Broncos about coming there. "Charlie loves Mike Shanahan and wants to be a Bronco," agent Brian Levy said. "He'd be a great third-down back there."

I really wanted the Broncos to sign him when he was previously a free agent but wonder if he isn't too old now to be productive. Your thoughts?

He would have been a phenomenal fit in our offense during his prime. I can't imagine he's got anything left at this point. But, a tryout can't hurt.

Great, first Charlie Garner, who's next? Is Ricky Watters still looking for a job or how about Tony Dorsett,

oh wait, lets bring back Glynn Milburn..........

He's done. I think a lot of RB's look at the "system" here and think they can plug in and do something, even the old guys. I'd say no, but like Popps said, it can't hurt to take a look.

Sounds a lot like Garrison Hearst's season here 2 years ago....older player + a little left in the tank = Cheap Insurance.

He was a sure handed SOB though. I doubt he makes the team but we did need a aging vet to bring in and talk up this year.

Bingo. And he'll probably make about as much of an impact.

Garner was still a phenominal athlete just a few years back. Do you remember those jukes he was busting on the Steelers defense a few years back during the ESPN Sunday Night Football opener?

Garner doesn't have quite as much wear and tear as Hearst, either. I am all for bringing him in.

Better yet lets see if Tony Dorsett will try and give us one more year.

What the hell, let him come in. If Rice couldn't keep any of our WR's off the roster I don't think Garner is going to hurt anything.

In ESPN NFL 2K5, Garrison Hearst was the Broncos SB MVP! ;)

So is Rod Smith...;D

I'm kidding, of course. I don't want anybody who Greasy Al has touched...

Yeah Rod is pretty long in the tooth too but a RB at 35 is almost unheard of these days, especially one out of the game for a couple years. And your Greasy Al point is well taken :wiggle:

I glad that Burger Bill is reporting what the agent wants, I wonder if he even talked to the team about this. I want to sleep with Jessica Alba, doesn't mean she wants to sleep with me.

Maybe he can help Tatum Bell learn how to catch out of the backfield.

He's been over the hill for a couple of years now and used to be a Fader. Pass.

letting older player compete for a spot is good for training camp. It pushes everyone harder and brings knowledge to the team. He would probably get cut in first wave but you never know. If Broncos want to let him try I'm all for it. Generally though bkup running backs have to play special teams and I'm not sure his age permits that.
