I'm looking for input on what kind of ring I should get.

I'm thinking something a little unique like a celtic design and I really like some of the titanium rings but my fiance doesn't like some of my choices. I'm looking to see if any guys out there have some really cool unique rings. I want to show her this thread so she can see that there are other guys out there that like some of the more unusual ones.

Anyone have a unique ring?

With limited time take a quick look but if nothing you like pops up just take a cheap gold band and look for what you like later . Quick tip on this is that you inform the bride that if you take a ring you dont like that you will be changing shortly.

I picked one where the engagement ring and the wedding ring were interlocking and the engagement ring had most (but not all) of the diamonds. I liked the thought of knowing that if she called off the engagement, she was going to be keeping only half a ring that didn't look complete without the rest of it which, obviously, she wouldn't get until she said her vows.

Yup. We guys take about 80% of the risk in these things. I mean, the full set looked really nice. It's just that once you saw the full set, you wouldn't feel complete wearing just one part. Plus, she might have reason not to wear the full set (like when doing the dishes, etc.) and the wedding ring actually looked nice by itself.

It was from a local jeweller, not a chain so I can't do anything but describe it. No pictures.

If you don't get EXACTLY the kind of ring SHE wants, you are out of your mind.

Don't try to make some kind of a personal fashion statement with your avant garde choice of the jewelry that is supposed to symbolize your union with this woman.

Get a clue, dude. You're a guy. She has better jewelry sense than you do, guaranteed.

Trust me on this one. I've been married for almost 20 years and I'm still hearing about stuff I should have left up to her if I'd had any sense at all at the time.

Celtic design??? Titanium is nice

If you want to go nice & simple. Go with a stainless steel ring made by Teno.

Kaylore

Whatever you do, don't get Titanium. It scratches easily, cannot be sized and it's almost impossible to refisnish.

If you like the look of titanium, I recommend Tungsten carbide. It cannot scratch, is about the same weight and low price.

If you want a silver tone, go with Platinum. Yes it's very expensive but white gold fades ( or returns ) to it's natural color over time. The more abuse that the ring takes, and the higher its exposure to chemicals, lotions, soaps, etc. the faster it will fade. A piece worn as frequently as a wedding band would require a regimen of rhodium plating almost every five months if you want it to stay silver.

No true silver rings. Silver tarnishes.

Yellow gold is a good choice that is timeless and not horribly expensive.

Hope that helps. :)

The bad/ good part is that she's passed that taste on to our daughter. I was a a jeweler two days ago to buy an emerald ring for my wife's BD with my daughter. While I was busy finding the "trinket" for my wife, my daughter (11) was busy looking at diamonds with one of the sales-lady's. She picked out a 1-1/2 carat (flawless) marquis solitaire and told the salesperson it was "SMALL".:wiggle: Scary!

Ok I have to chime in as the only person who sells this stuff. Listen up men. The biggest mistake that couples get when they choose a ring is they ignore practical aspects. Remember that you are going to wear this forever. Also consider that this is just the first part. There is an engagement eventually anniversary ring that needs to go with it.

You can go with this one and the one Haydensmon posted if you don't want to get a wedding ring for it (or just use it as an engagement/wedding combo ring). If she wants a band (and she probably does) these are horrible choices.

The side of the ring juts out and any band outside a wrap is not going to lay flush against the ring. You can do a wrap, but they can't be worn by themselves, and one of the advantages of a band is it lets you wear something on your wedding finger when weraing the expensive part is not ideal (bad part of town, doing something with your hands that may hurt it, etc.)

The Tacori pieces listed are excellent choice for a number of reasons.

1. They're hand made, platinum, and high quality.

2. Almost everyone has a matching wedding bad to go with it.

3. They are a good, family run company and very easy to deal with. (I frequently flirt with their receptionist. :wiggle: )

Consider eveything you are getting. Remember when something is overly stylized, there is a good chance you will hate it when that style isn't en vogue eight years from now. Classic is always better.

Consider practical things. Your ring will be worn everyday and will need maintanance and repair work. Online places don't offer protection or assistance there and you can't see what you're getting before it arrives. make sure that the piece isn't something that is going to snare or snag on a lof things.

Please make sure your stones are certified with a GIA cert. GIA is the organization that created the rating system used by the world. They are also no profite and the strictest grader of rings. They also are now lazer inscribing the certification number on the girdle of every ring they grade now. This gives you physical mark that you can quickly identify as your own under a loupe if you are concerned that a jewler has taken your stone.

EGL, IGI and all the others are profit graders with poor grading. Certs from them are probably going to say they're better than they really are.

If it doesn't have any kind of cert at all DON'T BUY IT.

It may be too late, but in case you havn't bought yet, the unique ring is really a dangerous thing. The simple yellow gold has several advanges. Weight gain, for sure. They can "supersize it" for 40 bucks. Even more importantly, assuming you haven't done something stupid by having it engraved with something, if you "lose" it (doing something totally innocent, like .... fixing the garbage disposal or canoeing for example) no problemo. Just run down to a nearby Jewler (hopefully one you've not used before and where you are not known to anyone) and buy a new one. Grab some tube socks, and stuff about three together, pack in some small rocks, drop the "new" ring in there, and stick it in a dryer at a laundromat for about an hour .... and your ring is back.
