Nice move genius. Batting .333 and he pulls this stunt.

The announcer is a moron as well, it wasn't high, it was outside. Minor league umps are replacements because of a strike, but man. He just toasted his career. Never fails to amaze me. I'm sure he will be suspended for the year without pay, possibly sued.

You know who Delmon Young is? He's probably going to get a significant suspension (the pay doesn't really matter, he got a fat signing bonus), but its not going to ruin his career. He's arguably the single best prospect in all of baseball. Worst case scenario this throws his MLB time table off by a year, he'll still be in the majors before his 25th birthday hitting bombs.

He is the younger brother of the Detroit Tigers Dmriti Young.

And he is a gem of a prospect, possibly a future MLB All-Star.

But what a dumb move, I see a lengthy suspension and even possible charges filed by the Ump, but I dont think this will taint his career.

He was 2005's best minor league player. Hes a five tool player and will be a STAR in the pros

I have to admit, I LOL'd at the video. Something very comical about the bat coming from out of view...

/confesions from a self proclaimed a-hole

He's all over the news and not a one time thing either, he's been suspended twice before for "bumping" umps.

Not anymore according to Rome, he threw one of them at the ump :).

Baseball better reign this idiot in. I do not care how bad or good you are, you are not allowed to be so arrogant as to think you can do what this guy did. Suspend his ass for a year, WITH PAY. Fine him his signing bonus and be done with him. What an ass...dman

I don't care how much upside he has. So did Ryan Leaf, Ricky Williams, Ontario Smith, Phillips and others long forgotten.

Who was that guy who fought 5 cops because he parked the wrong direction and was cited for drunk and disorderly? This guy has more warning lights than a 7 alarm fire.

I won't say it will ruin his career, but he needs to chill out before he gets a reputation as a hothead. Unless he wants to spend his whole career getting heckled by drunks.

With how far outside that pitch was...I'd be pissed too. BUT, I wouldn't have chucked my bat at the ump.

He'll come through. There will be a nice little story a year from now when he's in the majors about how he is a changed man, and so on.

I hope he learns from his mistake. He's young and that was stupid. I'm not ready to call the hounds on him but a long suspension is fully warranted.

I think they need to sit him down for the year and then reevaluate.

He'd also better learn to be more diplomatic with the umps unless he wants to spend his whole career getting rung up on borderline pitches. Umpires can have long memories.

Nahhh, if I were him I'd prefer sticking with my 'tude and intimidating the umps. Who wants to get beat with a baseball bat???

Who was that guy who fought 5 cops because he parked the wrong direction and was cited for drunk and disorderly? This guy has more warning lights than a 7 alarm fire. Right, but Leaf, Phillips, etc. couldn't play. Ricky wouldn't, Smith wasn't good enough to flaunt it so blatantly.

Delmon Young, no matter how much of a thung he is, tears the damn cover off the ball. He can rake, and when all the 'roiders are retired that'll be a lot more valuable. Albert Bell damn near ran some kids over with an SUV, he played over a decade. Baseball don't give a **** about thugs, he'll get one hell of a suspension, lose some money, and probably get regressed a year. I figure he's got two more good **** ups in him before they really ban him for life.

If nothing else the stupidity of Ricky Williams teaches us that. The NFL even cuts you a lot of slack if you can play.

Baloney. Leaf, Phillips both had high portential, Smith excelled when given the ball, Williams was a 1500 yard back.

I don't care is the asshole can tear the cover off the baseball. Just don't tell me that the players I named didn't have enough talent.

Delmon is one of the most spoiled players to ever set foot on the diamond. He got a taste of the big-league lifestyle long ago because of his older brother. He earned a $3.6 million signing bonus upon graduating from high school. He knows he's good and he thinks he's bigger than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Delmon has been bitching for months about the Devil Rays holding him back in the minor-leagues. He wanted to play in the bigs as an 18 year old out of high school. He's probably the first player ever to threaten to leave in his free agency year without playing a game at the major league level.

Delmon thinks he can get away with murder because he's the future of the franchise, but this incident will ground his ego for once. Now the D-Rays are in control and he has to play by their rules. The best way for them to get their message across is to devastate Delmon by not calling him up this year.

Delmon is following in the footsteps of his brother. Ten years ago, Dmitri Young was playing for the Cardinals' Texas League Double-A affiliate in Arkansas. A heckler in the stands continuously yelled "pork chop" to harass Dmitri. Dmitri finally got fed up with the heckling and ran into the stands to throw punches at the fan!

Yeah, he really looks major league ready to me. 79 ABs with zero (0) home runs, three doubles and a triple in AAA. That .392 slugging percentage is positively Ruthian.......::)

Watch the video again.....The pitcher has his glove over his face to hide while he laughs his arse off. This is better than any bird getting hit by a ball, finally an Ump gets owned on a bad call.

Double A: .336 .386/.582/968
Triple A before this season: .285/.303/.447/750

Young has raked at every level until he hit triple A Durham. last year, at 20, he had a pretty monsterous slugging for a guy with such little plate discipline. This year they've been working on his discipline heavily, hence the lack of early power numbers. If it wasn't for this incident he probably would have been called up by the end of the season, at 21 years old. Instead he'll have to wait until probably the end of next season after he's suspended.

Mock, Leaf and Phillips didn't put up numbers at the NFL level, Smith was splitting time and therefore wasn't nearly as immune to the rules of the NFL as he thought. Williams has gotten a whole lot of rope more than he should have if you ask me, and the NFL isn't nearly the player's league that MLB is.

Are we sure who the pitcher is really laughing at in that clip?

Its fun seeing Young and Upton play at the Durham Bulls ball park man...The other night Young fielded the ball in the outfield and threw a rope to home plate from the wall in right and got the guy out...I about cried

Delmon will enter Spring Training in 2007 with a real chance to win the starting RF job. With Johnny Gomes more suited for DH duty, you can only stick Russell Branyan in RF for so long.

Preach it!

Nothing ticks me off more than players assaulting refs. I don't care who they are. Sole exception being the dude in Cleveland who caught a flag in the eye. I don't condone what he did, but I could understand how that could set someone off.

The ball was outside, but you don't throw a bat at him, period. There are plenty of pitches outside the plate that are called strikes. You file a complaint or something. Let the manager come out and get tossed. The ball was clearly off the plate, but that doesn't matter.

The last SuperBowl might of been the worst officiated in all of 40 years, but I didn't see bigger meaner men taking off their helmets and using them as weapons. It's up to the coach to stand up for his players.
