Okay, okay. Caveat emptor. Anybody can be anybody on the internet.
Still, this is a condensed version of a dialog between Jet fans and somebody supposedly on the inside with an "NFC South" team (which can only be the Saints if you read between the lines). Of course, later he switches and refers to the Titans as "we" more than once so perhaps he means "AFC South". His user name is "Bongo".
The gist of it is that Leinart fired Leigh Steinberg because Tom Condon promised him he could make a deal to get Leinart to stay in Cali and pay him like the #2 pick in the draft.
There are still some wild cards and they are trying to cement the wild cards to make the whole deal go down which might not happen until draft day.
It goes like this:
The Raiders will trade up with the Saints and the Jets to take Leinart at #2.
The Saints will move down to #4 and take Mario Williams. The Jets will wind up at #7 and take D'Brickashaw Ferguson. The Saints will then trade Williams to the Jets for Ferguson. Condon is also working on the Titans not to screw up the arrangement or, as a fallback, become the third team.
This depends on some factors:
1. That Houston will take Reggie Bush, almost assured because nobody is listening to their trade down offers.
2. That the Titans will then take Young or Cutler.
3. That the Packers, with Williams taken at #4, will take their second option which is A.J. Hawk.
4. That the Niners will take Vernon Davis which is a virtual lock unless somebody gives them a path to Reggie Bush (read between the lines on the last part of the post).
Besides that, the flies in the ointment are dickering with Sleazy Al on compensation. Davis wants to move Jerry Porter instead of his 2007 #1. The Jets and the Saints will both need to get some comp out of the deal in order for it to sell to their fan bases.
But apparently Davis and Condon are working to try to make this happen.
This guy also confirms that the Broncos were rebuffed at trading up ahead of the 49ers to take Davis. It seems they were told they had to give up both #1s and more but the Broncos wouldn't bite. So then the Broncos traded down so they are no longer a factor in all of this.
Again, take it for what it's worth.
