Devin Hester
Cornerback
Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 186 pounds
Class Year: Jr
Experience: 3V
High School: Sun Coast
Hometown: Riviera Beach, FL
Scouting Report Summary
Frank Coyle: Athletically, he is similar to R.W. McQuarters, who has played both corner and receiver. His athleticism should allow him to compete for a No. 3 receiver slot or third-down roles early in his career. Top punt returner with impact ability. Marginal top-60 prospect should be selected in the middle of the first day. He may never be more than a deluxe role player. [More]
Pros: Fast, big-play junior declared for the Draft after limited playing time on both sides of the ball in his final season. He is one of the premier all-purpose players in the nation and has the ability to fill a few key roles. He is a smallish athlete with the explosiveness to break any play as a runner, receiver or return specialist. His best pro positions will be punt returner, third-down back and slot receiver – if he develops as a route runner. He has the playmaking ability to be an impact performer. As a receiver, he is very quick off the line and is able to retain his speed in his cuts. He has good open-field running skills. He could fill in at cornerback if necessary.
Cons: Playing different positions hindered his development at all of them. He lacks the size to be considered a No. 1 receiver. He also needs further development in his strength and defense recognition. He will have to show the ability to fight through bump-and-run coverage.
Numbers: In 2005 he played in 10 games with 15 carries for 94 yards and a 6.3 yard average. He caught five passes for 55 yards. As a punt returner, he had 22 returns for 312 yards (14.2-yard average) and one touchdown. As a kickoff returner he had seven returns for 113 yards and a 16.1 yard average (long return of 33 yards). He also added one interception with limited time on defense. Over his career, he had six touchdowns on returns - four on punt returns. At the Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds and had a 38” vertical jump and a 10’4" broad jump.
Skinny: Athletically, he is similar to R.W.

I compare him to a Randal El. He can play reciever or corner, and is an excellent returner. He's not polished at a specific position, but is a natural athlete. Round 3, a miracle in round 4.
