I'd still like to get a vet wr before draft. I wonder how much we would offer? maybe a 2nd round pick?

Why? The guy is a T.O. and injured. Straight up is all you do.
Throw Lelie to move up for Vernon Davis.

just curious, what is the perceived difference between Javon Walker and Charles Rogers? Both extremely talented, injury prone, flawed personalities that have overstayed there welcome. Yet one seems to come at a much steeper price than another. . . .couldn't we just go get Rogers for a 4th, keep Lelie to spread the field and then stand pat or move forward for VD from there?

Walker has a 1000 yrd season Rogers doesn't. Walker had 12 tds 2 yrs ago, rogers hasnt done that.

Walker also hasn't been suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Rogers has.

Yeah Javon crys about his contract not being big enough when it is like 1 million per year. T.O. says he cant feed his family when he is making 8 million per year. Javon wanted to be paid what a wr with his numbers should get paid while T.O. wanted to be the highest paid player in football. Javon has never talked negativley about his QB he has simply stated Brett should mind his own buisness and not worry about Javon trying to get a new contract which by the way is a somewhat of a code of life for these nfl players not to talk about other peoples contract situations. Mean while I don't ever remember Javon being plastered all over every media channel while he is trying to get more money. As a matter of fact the only times I have seen Javon on TV is when he is plaing or they just have a picture of him. He aint out infront of his house doing sit ups for the media because he feels the need to be the center of attention. Javon is not T.O.

Not to defend Rogers, but it is not as simple as the numbers. Rogers has been playing for one of the most unstable organizations.
Packers are have been pretty stable with a HOF, QB.

Rogers has also been very brittle.

If we trade for walker i think it'll be on a bigger scale of a deal...
i'm guessing something like lelie both #1's for walker & pack's #1 (5th overall)
some of you may not like it but i would....drafting vernon and adding pro bowl freak in walker would boost offense....
then as a cherry on top maybe get ricky williams (if he wins appeal) for 4th rounder....
BTW....adorable baby pic...

Put Rogers on GB of 2 years ago and Walker in D-town and see if there #s are any different.
The question remains, if we have to sacrifice a home run threat WR with continued upside in Lelie AND provide a new contract to get Walker who is coming off a major injury, does the cost of that acquisition outweigh the relative cost to get Rogers who would likely come without a significant player loss and with an even more incentive-laden contract? In summary, the upsides and downsides I view as similar (though i recognize the additional risk of Rogers from a drug perspective), the costs I view as significantly different.

Don't you think we need some insurance in case walker doesnt recover. Like if he doesn't recover GB owes us a 3rd round pick? or something conditional like that?

my only worry about rogers is the health, if we could make sure his collar bone was strong enuf, i would love to have afourth for him, maybe even a third(if we had one).

Walker is hardly injury prone. Rogers, on the other hand, has had his collarbone broken what, three times?

We could trade a compensatory pick for him...

couple of second round choices might appease the Cheeseheads.
Are you serious? Where do we sign up for THAT?
He'd improve our WR corps immediately... and we'd finally have a legitimate candidate to succeed Rod as the #1 guy.
PLEASE let us pull off a trade like that!
I don't know, though.. I just have a feeling that if we were going to do it, it would have been done already. Shanny tends to act quickly when he wants something. (Bailey.)

If we're going to deal with GB...make it big...get them the 22 & 15 & Lelie...for walker and the 5 pick...stir in later round picks as needed...and get VD, or williams..or bush...or Leinhart...AGGGGRHH!!! I want the draft ovah

Walker is really physical and fights for the ball. Watch some tape of him abusing D backs then post a comment.

The thing is WE are in the Driver's Seat. We should entertain all offers. If we don't see one that we get a strong advantage on, we can just keep our picks right where they are and still get good value with our picks.
But, I bet, the closer we get to draft day, one of those teams is going give us an offer we can't refuse... :wiggle:

Why does everyone automatically say Walker is a headcase? He had a jerk of an agent tell him to hold out for more money before last year which wasn't a bad idea considering he just had a monster year and was getting paid like he was a 4th receiver. Then he got hurt the first game that year when he ended his holdout. He would be a multi-millionaire if he was as big a jerk as some make him out to be.

Walker doesn't have a 'tude problem he just wants to get paid
if Favre hadn't opened his mouth last year the situation would have probably been over, the FO was not gonna get a deal done with Walker when Favre says he needs to shut up & come to camp

BINGO! Stovall may or may not be there at 61. So we're looking at guys like Hagan, Marshall, and Haas in round two. Or worse yet, we're looking at a guy like Chad Jackson or Sinorice Moss in round 1. I'd gladly give up two 2nds to avoid drafting one of those guys in the first round. And I'm willing to bet that Javon Walker is better than whomever we could draft at 61 this year. I think an ideal situation for us is to trade our 2nd this year and make the pick next year conditional. Based on playing time rather than production. If Walker plays in 10 games or more then its a 2nd. 5-9 games a 3rd. 1-4 a 4th. And a 6th or 7th should he not suit up at all. We need that type of protection built into the trade.
Here is an honest, orange n blue homer glasses off, glimpse of how we'll likely draft.
First. We trade Ash and the 15th (not 22nd) to the Niners for #6. With the 6th pick we take Broderick Bunkley (which pisses everyone off!). With pick 22 we draft Santonio Holmes to make up for the loss of Ash. Pick 61 will then go on a DE. You could swap this, say pick 22 goes to Tamba Hali and then pick 61 goes to a WR. Either way, I think the Broncos are going to leave a bunch of us fans scratching our heads and yelling out Whiskey Tango Foxtrot's come draft day.
What I'd do. Trade the 15 and 22 plus Ash to GB for the #5 and Javon. With #5 draft Vernon Davis. With 61 we go after either a RB like (Not a great fit, but if Denver has him rated high, history shows they'll pull the trigger) Brian Calhoun or their highest rated DT, probably Rod Wright.
Javon Walker, Vernon Davis, Brian Calhoun/Rod Wright. That's not a bad draft day haul. Make it Rod Wright and then Ricky for a 4th and I'm predicting a SB in 06/07!!!

I heard today on the radio that Winston Justice is one of about 5 upper tier players that is sliding b/c of character questions. If we stand pat at 15 and he's available what do you do? I think your in a situation that bodes well for the Broncos. You know the Dolphins would love to have him. To jump one spot we could probably rescue a 4th from them and possibly even a 3rd if we convince them that we're going to take Justice without a trade!

Yea, man... the more I think about it, I think the worst possible thing we could do in this draft is to draft a WR in the first round. (That making the unconfident assumption our staff wouldn't draft a couple more CBs in the first.)
It's a mediocre year for WRs. Why waste the first couple of high picks we've had in a while?
If we don't nab Walker, keep Lelie and worry about landing a WR next year.... or hope to strike something in the remaining FA pool/cuts.

I heard that and on another show I heard he was making a big move up draft boards. Its all BS till the 29th. :)

i myself can't see walker not working out....
he's big, fast, and made for west coast offense...
i don't know why people think he's a "headcase"....the guy was making chicken scratch compared to other wr's of his caliber
david terrell & devoe & watts can be insurance....but we wouldn't need to worry imo....with that said though...making a condition to the trade makes good sense...i'm not against that by any means...
walker & smith makes for a real nice duo...don't you think
