Alright last night i watched "once upon a time in america" and it was awsome. I thought it was better than the godfather. It was 4 hours long and i never got bored or thought it overextended.

this has to be the most underated movie out there. IMDB doesnt even have it in there top 100. that doesnt make any sense.

Anyone else seen this movie and if you have why do you think its not in the top 100?

Den Smith 49

Great flick. How cou;d you go wrong with Deniro and Woods together. You definately could make an argument it belongs somewhere in the top 100 over some of the overated crap thet have on there. But I'm a little biased because I love a good gangster flick. If you like that check out Once Upon a Time in the West, I believe its called great cowboy movie which if I'm not mistaken is done by the same director Sergio Leone you might remeber him for the spaggetti westerns he did with Clint in the 60s

When the movie was originally released in the United States, Warner Brothers test marketed the film and the audience panned it for being too long. They totally overreacted and butchered the film, hacking Leone's original version down from three hours 49 minutes to a more "marketable" two and a half hours. Unfortunately, they only succeeded in making the movie utterly incomprehensible.

Here's a detailed account of what happened.* (http://www.dealtime.com/xPR-Once_Upon_a_Time_in_America_Robert_De_Niro~RD-220129300100)

*L.A. Times critic Sheila Benson picked the movie as her worst film of 1984. Then a year later, the L.A. based movie-cable channel Z Channel led by its late programmer Jerry Harvey released both the short and long cut of the film where the critical re-evaluation came. For her end of the decade best of films, Benson put the uncut version of the film as one of her best picks of the decade. Now, the full, uncut version is available for everyone as a definitive, gangster classic.

yea i watched the 4 hour version and i have no clue how the hell you could squeez that down to 2 1/2 hours. The length is parts of what makes it so good. you dont feel rushed at all you have time to get involved with the story.
