We're in week 29, we'll be in week 30 as of Monday!!
It's a girl, and the due date is June 24th. We've got our second child-prep class tomorrow night, and another 3D Ultrasound the next week.
We've got a son (my step) who is a phenomenal kid, but this is my first baby, so I'm going out of my skull with excitement. She's not even here yet, and she's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me... outside of my wife, of course. :)

Expecting my third in late July. I have two daughters, so I'm hoping for a boy. Should find out Friday. My oldest daughter doesn't care to much for football. She likes the ponies and princesses. My youngest loves to wear her Bronco clothes and watch games with daddy.

My brother's wife just had a baby girl two weeks ago. The baby looks just like my mother, which has seemed to piss off his wife and her mother. It's pretty funny. The baby is much better off looking like my mother than his wife's mother. ;D
My brother named her Anaya. He told me his list of names a few months ago. He said he liked Mia and Nia. Jessica was also on this list. I looked at him with a smile and said, "Dude, those are stripper names."

We have one coming November 23rd. We had a hard time conceiving (five years, give or take), and my wife ended up in the ER over the weekend with some heavy-ish bleeding - so I hope we make it.
But, we heard the heartbeat, and everything looked relatively well - so here's to optimism!

I know you're speaking sort of tongue in cheek, but it can be a serious nightmare. Every month, you buy the pregnancy test - and every month, you are dissappointed. Sex becomes a process that you almost come to resent. If you just knew that it would eventually work out, then I guess it would be okay. But we're 37, so you don't know - maybe time runs out, and you don't get another chance. I have told my wife that if I knew how difficult it was to impregnate someone, I would have slept a whole lot better some nights in high school :)
But, wouldn't you know it - when we finally stopped obsessing over it - badda bing, it works! Finding out she was pregnant was one of the greatest moments of my life.
So, thanks for all your prayers. I think it will be okay. She bled at about the same point when she was pregnant with our son (although this weekend, there was a lot more), and we were actually told by an OB-GYN that she had miscarried. But still, it was a lot of drama this weekend. We were in the ultrasound room just holding our breath, and all of a sudden we hear that "WHOMPA WHOMPA WHOMPA!" that anyone who has ever had a child knows. I almost hugged the nerdy little ultrasound guy.

My pet peeve is the alternative spellings. Like Jazmynne, Madysen, Mersaydes, Bayleigh, Shaniya, Dustee, etc. We have a set of rules that we follow, a few of which are:
1) It can't rhyme with anything profane - no Tuckers in our family. I'll try to save the kid as much playground pain as possible.
2) It has to phonetically match the spelling. I don't want the poor kid having his name butchered by teachers throughout his life.
3) If it has meaning, it's a plus - but not absolutely necessary. My son's middle name, for example, is Winter. That was my mom's maiden name.
We have more, but just those three eliminate at least half of what people are naming their kids these days.

Hah! There is a classic SNL sketch in which Nicolas Cage turns down every name that his wife comes up with for their kid. The guy is going absolutely nuts. Then at the end of the sketch a delivery person comes to the door and says that he has a delivery for a mister Asswipe. To which Cage's character responds...it's Azz-weep-ay.

Oh yes, I have seen that too, I call them made up words, if the spelling is different they have no meaning...I know a girl who named her daughter Amide-I think it was cause they did not know the real spelling Amity! She claimed it was for the meaning of friendship, I just thought of the town from Jaws!
Keep those rules! they will help you out tons!

In my job we deal with a lot of families that have just had babies. We see a lot of those spellings and sometimes it's obvious it's not a case of being cutsey or creative in the spelling they just don't have a clue and try and spell it phonetically. I also see some that need to be strangled for not thinking what their child will have to go through with that name.....one of the worst was a mother who named her son Uranus. :bash:

Wow, I feel for you. It's easy to say (hard to do), "Try not to worry about it so much." And while I don't really understand why that would make a difference, I really believe it does. We know so many people who were trying to conceive, and only succeeded when they just sort of threw their hands in the air and decided that whatever happened would happen. Of course, that's easier said than done.
The thing that you have had to go through, of course, is the false starts of the miscarriages. I can't imagine that, and thank God we haven't had to endure it. As you know, when you're pregnant, you set a target on that due date, and every week seems to be a process. It would be terrible to have it all of a sudden pulled out from under you. Hang in there, and good luck! We'll keep you in our family's prayers.

Thank you very much that means a lot to me. All we can do is thank God for the blessing he has already given me,(although at 2 1/2 years old I question the "blessing" part sometimes) and pray he will bless us with at least one more.:)

Exciting times!!!
Our last one came on really quick. My wife had a routine appt. on a Wed afternoon. She was 37 weeks along and her Dr. looked at her and said you look like you're ready to have this baby. My wife was like, "Oh yeah!" So she did some tricky stuff, we came home and my wife said she felt a little funny. Within two hours of that Dr. appt my wife started having contractions. Within two hours of our arrival at BSA she had the baby. Her Dr. had the magic touch I guess!!!
Taco, our first came after a little yard work. Nothing big for the wife. We just swept up some leaves and bagged them. I can remember being Dog Tired and telling my wife as I laid down around midnight, "Do not have this baby tonight!" She woke me up about an hour and a half later! lol Thank god she has always had the babies fairly fast. I've heard stories about long labors and wouldn't wish that on anyone.
You're in my prayers TJ!

Thanks! We're very proud of it. When my wife and I put our heads together, cool things happen. We're very excited about the nursery. The crib and shelf set originally cost $1500, but we got the entire thing on clearance for $750! We were so pumped about that because it's the one we had wanted all along but kept waiting to get. Then the day we decide to just go and do it, we find out it's on sale!
And the cool thing about the crib is that it converts into a toddler bed, and then a full sized single eventually. It should last him through the next 18 years.
I like the jungle theme, but I can't wait until it's time to introduce him to sports!

A very wise choice. I love what my wife picked for our nursery, but if I didn't... I probably wouldn't have said anything. :) There are some areas in life where each respective gender deserves to have a little free reign, and that's one of them.

Thanks bud... Always good to have friends who have walked ahead on the path giving some advice.
So how did your dogs handle the whole rigamarole?
TJ, we learned a lesson on this... the hard way. After our first was born we came home from the hospital a couple days later and the dog went NUTS! Scared the baby and my wife. Anyhow, shortly after that we had a lactation nurse (sp?) come by one a weekly basis. She said the best thing you can do for newborns and dogs is this:
Buy a brand new little blanket for the baby. Wash it in the baby detergent (soon!!!). Once the baby is born and still in the hospital, use that blanket as much as you can. That or steal one of the crib sheets he lays on. At any rate, the idea is to get the babies scent home to the dogs before the baby himself gets home. The dogs will already be accustomed to the scent and they won't freak out. Supposed to prepare the dogs for a future relationship as well... don't know about that part though. Ours ran away about a year later anyhow and never got her back!
It's good advise, give it a try and let me know how it works out for you!

Remember all the cute baby outfits we saw in the stores at the 16th Street Mall when we were shopping there a couple of years ago? The little cheerleader outfits were adorable.

I only have one dog. (Bella/Boxer) But, she's a champ.
Despite her insane, hyper Boxer-type personality, she's also highly trainable, also a Boxer trait, if you've got the patience.
I started working on her long before Ava arrived. My wife has this little Hello Kitty stuffed animal that I used to train her. I'd basically refer to the doll as "the baby" and teach Bella to be gentle, stay off, etc.
Basically, she's been nothing short of perfect. She'll give her a little kiss once in a while, but she's gentle and starting to even be a little protective. It's nice.
If your dog listens to you, in general.. he/she will be fine with the baby. I think most dogs actually take to babies quite well. They're very good at interpreting your level of seriousness when it comes to discipline, and in the case of a new baby, there's really no mistaking the intentions.
Long-winded answer. Anyway, just work with your dog and expose them to each other as much as possible. It'll be fine.

One last little tid-bit...
The baby smell! You'll get a ton of advice about your baby, but I'll bet no one will tell you about the baby smell.
No, I don't mean dirty diapers.
Babies have a smell, like puppies! To me, it's most distinct on the top of their forehead. Just like you grow fond of that "puppy smell," you'll obviously eventually love the baby smell.
But, it goes away! So, there's my advice. Enjoy it while it's there. We're at 10 weeks and it's pretty much gone. It's the cutest thing ever and it'll only be there for a bit. Take it in and enjoy it.

We did something similar. Brought home the little cap they put on the baby right after it was born and let the dogs smell it and put it in the crib at night. We had two dogs at the time including an old grumpy one and they both did well.

My little grandson was born 8/11. I'm headed to Idaho tomorrow to spend a week with the little guy. Taking with me the Elway onesie, booties and hat my daughter found on the internet. Should please my son, the Steeler fan.
Dogs seem to have a sense about babies. At first they may go a little haywire, mainly out of curiosity but it's been my experience that they soon realize actions must be on smaller scale with the baby and they must be tolerant with the baby. One piece of advice I have though is don't just pay attention to the dog after you lay the baby down. Make sure he gets attention when the baby is around, then he feels a part of this whole new development and doesn't associate his attention to only when the baby is out of the picture.

From a woman who went 12 days over due with one of her kids, my sympathies go out to TJ and Ray. My husband came home one day and made the huge mistake of saying "not yet?". 22 years later he still says it's one of his most horrible nightmares.

"Miracle Drug"
I want to trip inside your head
Spend the day there
To hear the things you haven’t said
And see what you might see
I want to hear you when you call
Do you feel anything at all
I want to see your thoughts take shape
And walk right out
Freedom has a scent
Like the top of a new born baby’s head

I wish it was that easy!! Well, mama delivered a healthy baby boy at 5:15 today. She actually didn't need much of an induction. She popped a little pill about 10am and that's all she needed. Thank God for eperdurals(sp)! This was a lot easier on her than when she had our daughter naturally. I'm exhausted, 17 hours in a hospital... I took tons of pics...will try to get a couple in before the weekends out. Later.

OK. I've had a chance to calm a bit from earlier so "the story". We checked in Friday morning at 7 am. We basically sat around for 3 hours until a nurse came in. The wife changed into her gown and they hooked her up to the monitors. She was already contracting, so we knew there wasn't much that needed to be done to get her going. They finally gave her the magic pill about 11am. I don't remember the name of the pill but it basically just helped her along. Our mid wife came in about 4pm and the wifey was really starting to feel it. The water bag was popped and an epideral given. An hour later she was ready to push. It truly is a miracle! I've seen both of our kids make their entry into the world and still I'm at a loss of words to describe it. Anyway, Ethan Eric was born 5:17, weighed 6 lbs 10 oz, 18 3/4 in long. Here are some pics!
