View Full Version : My Conversation with Dominique Foxworth

So today I'm sitting in the food court with one of my co-workers eating a burrit. He's explaining to me how this one lady we work with gets on his nerves when I see see Dominique Foxworth walk right behind him with his Mom to buy some Chinese food at Edos.
So I stand up and immediately walk over to him. Here's how I remember our conversation.
Khan: "Execuse me. Are you Dominique Foxworth?"
At this point I noticed that he'd gained a little weight since we last spoke. His neck was more toned and filled in. Not a great deal, but on corners and receivers it's quite easy to see when they pick up a few pounds.
Dominique Foxworth: Smiling "yeah!"
Kahn: "well its grat to meet you i'm a big fan. I actually write camp reports for a website so I've followed your career as a Bronco very closely."
'Nique: "Oh, for real? What site? "
Khan: "Orangemane.com. Its a fan site but the people there are hard core and pretty smart. So you guys just started the offseason training prgram, right?"
'Nique: "Yeah. We were just there today. Pretty tough."
Khan: "Have you done the sled yet?"
'Nique: "Yeah (smiling) we actually had to do that today."
Khan: "Why doesn he make corners push a sled?"
'Nique: "Man I have no idea, but it's not fun. So do you work here?"
- - Talked about jewlry and dumb stuff - -
...minutes later
Khan: "Well I don't want to take your time. I just wanted to say hi."
'Nique: "Cool man, thanks."
I walked away to go get a fruit smoothie when I realized there was something I'd been dying yo know about, so I ran back and tapped him on the shoulder.
Khan: "Hey sorry to bug you again, but I know a lot of the fans have taken to calling you 'Foxy'. I was wondering if you have a nickname or you mind that."
'Nique: "Oh really? That's cool I guess - My teammates all call me 'Nique'."
Khan: "Neek?"
'Nique: "Nique."
Khan: "What does 'neek' mean?"
'Nique: "Domi-nique"
Khan: "OH! 'Nique!"
'Nique: "But I guess Foxy is ok."
Khan: "Really? Personally I think it sounds effeminate."
Nique: (Laughs) "Actually I do to."
Khan: "Well rest assured I'll do my best to kill Foxy"
'Nique: "So what's that website again?"
At this point I wrote the address for Orangemane.com on one of my business cards, and we started chating for a little bit.
I asked him how the battle for the starting corner position is going.
'Nique: "Me and D-wil both want it. That's our goal and we're working hard to get it."
Khan: "So is it weird with you both fighting for it?"
'Nique: "Well we're not 'fighting' it's more like we're..."
Khan: "Pushing each other?"
'Nique: "Yeah. See D-wil and I are friends so its cool."
Khan: "How's Karl doing?"
'Nique: "He's doing good. I don't really know about other guys because I'm so focused on myself and trying to make myself better."
Khan: "It seemed like he struggled with his drop backs a little bit last year. Like he was having difficulty in zone coverage."
'Nique: "That may be true, but honestly I don't know. It's too hard to worry about other people when you got your stuff to do. I can tell you that he works hard and is always improving."
Khan: "That's cool. how do you like Bob Slowik?"
'Nique: "He's good. He's a really good coach. He pushes us."
Khan: "It seems like all the defensive backs last year played at a high level."
'Nique: "We had a lot of help. That's the thing. People don't understand that a defense is a unit. Sometimes we look good because of something another unit is doing. You understand that, but I don't know if a lot of other people do."
Khan: "I know what you mean. Like they see a guy get burned but don't consider that the QB had ten seconds to throw the ball."
'Nique: "Exactly. Asking a defensive back to cover a guy for more than six seconds is pushing it. We get to try and buy time for the line to get to the quarterback. It's all related."
At this point I saw that his Mom had got her food and I didn't want to keep him so I thanked him and let him go.
There were a lot of things I wanted to ask him, but for a spur of the moment grilling, I thought it was pretty good. Hopefully I'll see more as they start coming around and grill them too.
And DON'T CALL HIM FOXY!!!!!!!:)

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Honestly if it weren't for you guys I probaly wouldn't even care. I'd feel too bad if I didn't at least try and pry some info out and post it.
There was a lot of things I was kicking myself afterward for not asking, like what the second year is like, His first offseason, what he'd like to see drafted, etc. Still it was really cool and as someone already said Nique is smart and a total gentleman. I'm not sure how freely he'll be offering conversation when he's going to pro-bowls down the road.
Yes. I am doing AM camp reports again this year.
My mall is really classy and it's like five or ten minutes from Dove Valley so we see a lot of Broncos.

I actually think I saw him at the mall once, but I was in a long line at Panda Express and didn't want to lose my place. When I left the line, he was gone. I'd love to be able to do this weekly, but my meetings are totally happen-stance. Hopefully with the offseason training things will go better.

Ya know what's tough is recognizing football player without their gear on, i had the pleasure of getting a service level pass for the jets game and saw all the players face to face. I had to look really close and on some i had to lean over to disco and ask who that? the usual guys stick out but some are hard to recognize so good eye kahn.

Well players look differently than just some guy in jeans and a T-shirt (though a lot of players wear jeans and a T-shirt). Standing out helps, but you do need to recognize them.

This is true, I just need to pay more attention to faces I suppose.
There is this ONE ride I always see at the Gas station on Havanna and Arapahoe...it's a PIMPED out tahoe on 24's, black on black tint. I haven't gotten a good look at the driver yet, but the times that I've seen him, he just hops out long enough to swipe a card and start pumping gas, then quickly hops back into his ride until the pumping is finished. Never gets off of his cell phone. Hmmmm......
