Conservative "family values" in action...

ATLANTA (Reuters) - In a sleazy hotel room, "Brittany," then aged 16 and drugged into oblivion, waited for the men to arrive. Her pimps sent as many as 17 clients an evening through the door.

A "john" could even pre-book the pretty young blonde for $1,000 a night, sometimes flying in and then flying out from a nearby airport.

None of this happened in Bangkok or Costa Rica, places that have become synonymous with sex tourism and underage sex.

It took place in Atlanta, the buckle of the U.S. Bible Belt, where the world's busiest passenger airport provides a cheaper, more convenient and safer underage sex destination for men seeking girls as young as 10.

"Men fly in, are met by pimps, have sex with a 14-year-old for lunch, and get home in time for dinner with the family," said Sanford Jones, the chief juvenile judge of Fulton County, Georgia.

A new federal law passed in 2003 ensures that American sex tourists landing on foreign soil and hiring prostitutes under the age of 18 can get 30 years in prison.

But in Georgia, punishment for pimping or soliciting sex with a girl under 18 is only five to 20 years, according to Deborah Espy, the Deputy District Attorney of Fulton County.

"Men are coming to Atlanta to have sex with a child," said LaKendra Baker, project manager for the Center to End Adolescent Sexual Exploitation (CEASE).

Half of the street-level prostitutes in Atlanta are believed to be under 18, according to experts.

Others are booked through Internet sex sites and from social sites like Black Planet, where girls innocently post profiles, said Baker.

Just in March, police arrested a Canadian man meeting a 14-year-old girl he found through the Internet, said Cathey Steinberg, executive director of the Juvenile Justice Fund, which funds treatment for abused girls and prevention.

Some idiot in Atlanta does something morally reprehensible and its a somehow a reflection on the whole of the bible belt? Are you really implying that the entire southern Uunited States is somehow mired in a massive underage sex scam?

Use some fricking logic dude... its not like you don't find this idiocy in New York or California.

Not to mention in a city that is one of the highest per capita murder rates in the country.

But, someone thinks that Atlanta is just exactly like Birmingham Alabama or Columbus Mississippi.

You're really trying to imply that only one individual is involved in the activities documented in the article?

Use some reading comprehension, dude.

BTW, it's places like Atlanta (the buckle of the Bible belt) that tout their "conservative family values" - not NY or CA.

This was one of the most interesting facts presented in the article:

A new federal law passed in 2003 ensures that American sex tourists landing on foreign soil and hiring prostitutes under the age of 18 can get 30 years in prison.

But in Georgia, punishment for pimping or soliciting sex with a girl under 18 is only five to 20 years, according to Deborah Espy, the Deputy District Attorney of Fulton County.

Atlanta is the "buckle of the Bible belt," i.e., one of the country's largest strongholds for evangelical Christians and their "traditional, Christian family values," so how do "attack the messenger" conservatives like enjolras explain the contradiction here?

Homeland Security Official Arrested for Sexually Soliciting Minor on Internet

Way to secure the homeland, bud! :oyvey:

MIAMI - The deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said.

Brian J. Doyle, 55, was arrested at his residence in Maryland on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.

Doyle, of Silver Spring, Md., had a sexually explicit conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl whose profile he saw on the Internet on March 14, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The girl was an undercover Polk County Sheriff's Computer Crimes detective, the sheriff's office said.

Doyle sent the girl pornographic movie clips and had sexually explicit conversations via the Internet, the statement said.

This was just the first thing that came up when I googled "democrat appointed by president bush":

"• Jonathan Adelstein, Democrat, Appointed by President Bush in November 2002. Term ended June 30, 2003. Whoever wins the presidential election in 2004 would have to renominate Adelstein for a full term before Congress adjourns this year in order for him to keep his seat."

The mention concerns a post at the FCC. Frankly, I don't know how often the president has appointed members of the loyal opposition to federal posts under his watch. But it looks like it happens, so my question stands:

Are we sure he's our scumbag yet?

How on earth is Atlanta a representative of the "Bible Belt"?

Atlanta is the "San Francisco" of the south. It's one of the most popular destinations for gays in the world.

How's this for a face valid deduction: "It makes sense that something so utterly sexually deviant would be occurring in a place so flooded with homosexual sodomy."

What's funny is that my admittedly face valid deduction is much more reasonable than your obtuse blanket statement that Southern Christians are closet pedophiles.

Atlanta is the "San Francisco" of the south. It's one of the most popular destinations for gays in the world.

This thread isn't about gays - it's about sex tourism for pedophiles in the Bible belt (although I realize you like to lump such groups in together.)

What's funny is that my admittedly face valid deduction is much more reasonable than your obtuse blanket statement that Southern Christians are closet pedophiles.

Show me this so-called "blanket statement" that indicates all Southern Xians are pedophiles.

People like you make idiots of themselves by attacking the messenger and by creating deflections.

your arguments are pretty bad, especially when it comes to this

Simply labeling an argument "bad" isn't the same thing as refuting it.

All you are doing is advertising your ignorance and embarrassing yourself by pretending it is.

but keep it up, you are doing your job here on the mane

Your "job on the Mane" is to create deflections and to shift the focus from the original thread topic, i.e., Bible Belt sex tourism and pedophile DHS officials, to an attack on the messenger.

The humorous part is that you don't seem to realize you're just advertising your intellectual dishonesty in the process.

When one of your guys is caught doing something illegal or immoral, go on the attack against the person who exposed him.

b/c bad things like happen in Atlanta Georgia, you broadbrush and entire region

pretty stupid if you ask me

Why do these pedophile sex tourists fly into ATL to do their thing?

Because of the easy access and the easy opportunities for sex with minors offered by the region.

Because of the relatively lax laws re: sex with minors that exist within the state.

But, according to you, these things are all Hollywood's fault, right?

The people of the State of Georgia don't elect their own reps who write legislation and whatnot.

I would love to see a correlary study on the influence of porn on the perpetrators of sexual crimes. Any time that you dehumanize your "sexual partner" to the point that they arent even actually in the room, and do it regularly, you create neural circuits that theoretically could change brain chemistry to the point that it alters other neural assocations such as limbic relationships and on down the line. The regular viewing of porn (active or not..if you get my drift) undoubtedly effects a person's social behavior.

I dunno, i watched p*rn but i don't think it really altered my perceptions of how to treat a woman, etc. Now, i don't watch bukkaki/etc types of things and that to me on a younger child (12-17) - could really alter the perceptions of relationships - but it's also in the parents job to do what they can to raise a healthy adjusted member of society too.

Some validity to your claims, but it's not near as all encompassing as you make it out to be.

LOL...that explains so many things. Not about myself though.

That's why a study would be valuable.

The relationships of different regions of your brain to one another dictate your complete perception of the world around you, and then process that information into meaningful thoughts.

A person with a more developed sense of right and wrong displays more development in specific parts of the brain. This person would be better able to handle the high that is achieved by viewing porn. On the other hand, a person with less development in that same region would be more capable of ignoring law, or common decency to continue to achieve that high. Like any other drug or neurotransmitter, the NT's associated with sexual arousal change the brain chemistry in a way that reduces the concentration of other NT's in the area, and requires you to continue to produce those NT's associated from sexual arousal by increasing the intensity of the stimulus. Meaning that just as a heroin user has to use more heroin to seek that high, that a person needing sexual arousal in the stated manner to augment brain chemistry will have to seek that arousal in a more intense fashion.

Your brain is highly fluid and can learn to behave in new ways. it's called synaptic plasticity. So, even people with developed "moral" behavioral regions of the brain can become immoral in the seeking of that high, or a person without a moral oversight of that behavior can develop it.

Separating the ego from yourself is nothing more than cutting off your anterior posterior parietal lobe that deals with spatial orientation and the separation of "me" from everything else. That doesnt mean that its not important, but it does mean that you might be a little off in your paradoxical statement that you are "higher up" because you can redistribute blood flow in your brain a little differently than everyone else.

The proper handling by the brain of dangerous behavior is dependant on many factors. The reason why you were able to adapt and move on without problems may be quite different than someone elses. You may be adhering to the laws of Shaltharisticah the Sewage god, and someone else might realize that it just isnt practical to look at that stuff because it could lead someone else into problems.

To understand, you have to know a little about human physiology. A person who smokes might not ever end up with lung cancer because of the dance of millions of variables that come into play when calcutating the probability of something like that coming to fruition. On the other hand, you have individuals who are suscetible to lung cancer and can end up with it with very little exposure to cigarette smoke, and their cancer be contributed to that smoke.

We're looking at the same principle here.

Your brain is an organ...just like your heart or your lungs.

hmmmm, so watching porn will make me want to have sex with many young (over 18) women?

I thought the irony and hypocrisy of using my ego to denounce my ego was a good psycologists joke.

Actually Mr. Llama - i am working on visual meditations to resolve issues. Once you figure out the dream world is the archetype of the physical world, you can expidite some things and allow people to heal faster.

I saw that and addressed it in my post, but unfortunately for me I missed the humor.

I'm more of a neurophysiologist than a psychologist. This is the area of study that I concern myself with as a hobby. I would really like to define the link between mind and matter. The elegant mechanism that births thought. Not just from a chemical standpoint, but by using the chemical and physical events as a basis for founding a matrix. Kind of like the picture tube of the brain.

actually, i've been using that exact principle - the manipulation of the ether by direction of the will.

On another point, similiar in material - HG Wells concept of time travel is more aiken to pre/retro cognition -

Wait a minute....me on moral high ground?

I think you hold that position quite nicely LABF. You're always ranting and raving at how we're all stupid, and you know all.

Actually, it was your pal MHS who called me a moron in this discussion - not the other way around.

(Not that facts ever have any bearing on your pronouncements.)
