I won't annoint him as the starter quite yet, but our redzone could use a presence from the TE position. Keep ballin' Duke.

Nothing much to see as it was obviously a blown coverage assignment. Not sure what all the hype is about.

You know fans are grasping for straws when you start analyzing the merits of one td catch made all the way across the pond. Having said that it's better to see Broncos in europe make plays and hopefully not getting injured.

Yea.....I mean, a guy makes a TD catch in europe...ONE catch.....and all the sudden, he's the next Antonio Gates. I'll beleive it when I see him do it in the real NFL.

Actually, he did catch a TD against Buffalo last year. No he's not the next Gates but for a guy who didn't play much college ball the guy does have some skills. He's an interesting project, not much more than that right now.

Gee, forgive us for being a little excited over a Denver Broncos player . . . that's why we are called fans.

I don't think anybody is annointing him the next Sharpe, it is just nice to see him getting his feet wet in competition.

Lighten up a little, for crying out loud.

They're right though. We should just save them the trouble and cut him in camp next year. Why even bother with the guy? He obviously has zero potential...

Well it appeared that he was moving up the chart late last year so I guess that says something about him.

Chaz might have been harsh, but he has a point that people are getting way too excited about this kid. If he makes the active roster this year, I'll consider him a success.

If the deal is Duke isn't playing at all, then the team has to draft a starting TE. It's that or Nate Jackson/SAlexander/Mike Leach at TE. I was surprised to hear Duke was in NFLE. That said to me he isn't expected to contribute this year. So now the team needs a pass-cathing TE from somewhere.

I actually come to the exact opposite conclusion. To me, Denver sent Duke to NFLE to build off his late season experience. IMO, his NFLE trip is mainly for the experience from significant PT. Of course, they're working on some parts of his game, but the experience is key IMO.

yes i can & i can also imagine the TD's in the red zone(hell the TD's of 20+ yards with both their hands & speed)

Couple notes on Gates... er, Duke.

-The guy is fast. Look how he hit that seam and split the defense. That will help us out a lot if he can continue to improve.

-So this is what a TE with speed looks like? I'm used to some slow footed white boy lumbering down the field like his feet are stuck in concrete...

-Duke needs to learn how to run routes. This pass was easy because he ran straight and has the athleticism to beat people that way. He has to learn the passing tree and perfect those routes.

I'm encouraged by his progress though. He needs to keep improving... he has tons of potential.

Yes Duke has a lot to learn, but in reality he doesn't have big shoes to fill.

Putz was a nice receiving option but did very little in blocking and in the red zone. I still say that someone like Duke could provide the same pass catching role in our offense as Putz because a lot of his routes were straight down the field splitting the seam. Duke won't be an all around TE but I don't think we'll miss Putzier.

Putting duke in NFLE also gives broncos a roster exemption. Every allocated player does. This gives you more flexibility early in the season when deciding roster spots. I think Duke for sure has a roster spot. Last yr while he was on practice squad Broncos got worried someone might steal him from them, so they put him on active roster. I think Broncos are really sold on this guy already. That doesn't mean they won't draft a TE though.

I watched the game. None of the tight-ends got very much playing time since the sea-devils or whoever they are were in three-wide almost the entire second half.

And Brock Berlin is terrible.

Where do you come up with this? Duke was on the field in the red zone more than Putz for the last four games last year because he's already a better blocker than putz. Given that he didn't play college football at all, I think the FO wants to get him as much game experience as possible.

The best thing I've seen from Duke is his hands. His routes need work, but the kid catches the ball naturally with soft hands. Judging form the dunk contest (and not his TD celebration) he can jump also. I think he'll see the field a lot in the red zone, but he has a ways to go before he's a full time contributor.
