View Full Version : Buccaneers | Gruden hopes to get Phil Simms involved with team
Stephen Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is hoping to get former QB Phil Simms involved with the team. Gruden said, "He doesn't come around. We're trying to get him to come around some more because I'd like to be around Phil Simms. He gives me confidence being around guys like that." Simms works with CBS during the season and prefers to stay in the background. Gruden added, "I'm trying to encourage him to get a little closer to the situation because I think he could help us."

Phil has made it pretty clear he doesn't want to coddle his son or do anything that would look like it. He rarley comments on how he's doing publicly and just lets him do his thing. Chris talked about how their conversations go and they're apparently pretty short and borderline terse. I expect he'll just keep his distance.

Wasn't that part of Griese's problem? A little more rapport with the team mates couldn't hurt Simms

Gruden isn't forcing anything or making anyone do anything. I don't know why you can complain about a guy gently trying to get them together some. I don't consider it meddling at all. They might need a little nudge. I have alot of respect for Gruden, he wouldn't do anything to hurt a fly honestly. They are pobably as hard headed as me and my son.
