There has to be a mathmatical solution to this.

I'm not sure what to do to win this game. If anybody knows the secret, I bow down to them...:notworthy

Because he is always second, there is no way to win. All he has to do is make sure you have an even number of peals to remove.

never to let him leave you with two rows of two or three pearls each or with an one-two-three-combination

Not true, I finally won one. His eyes bug out and he walks away.

There is a pain in the ass solution involving sums of binary numbers but I was too stupid to figure it out.

what was your first move ?
Raider Bill

Take 2 from the row of 3 on your first move
Raider Bill

The solution is to convert the rows to binary numbers and sum the columns
3 = 0 1 1
4= 1 0 0
5= 1 0 1
sum 2 1 2
When your turn is over you want the sum to be even so your first move is
taking the 3 down to one
1= 0 0 1
4= 1 0 0
5= 1 0 1
2 0 2 = all even, so your golden.
When his turn is over just repeat the process and you'll always win.

Take 2 from the row of 3 and tell me what happens
Raider Bill

Take 2 from the row of 3.
He'll take one from the row of 4
Take 3 from the row of 5
He'll take 1 from the row of 3
Take away the one that's by itself
He'll take away one from the remaining rows leaving a row of 2 and a row of 1
Take away the row of 2, YOU WIN!
Raider Bill

What you want to do is "stick him" with a 3,2,1 combination and you'll automaticaly win.

Actually Pearls Before Swine II we couldnt figure out
After you beat the first one you can play part 2.. no idea how to beat that one.. in Part Two you can tell him to go first

This kind of hurts... Raider man is teaching/schooling us and making us all look like a bunch of idiots. I don't like this and I probably won't sleep well now!

Part 2 same deal
You'd have to use that binary number deal.
Take the row of 6 down to 2
He'll take it to one
Take away the entire row of 3
He'll leave you with 4 3 1
Make that 3 2 1
He leaves you 3 2
Make it 2 2
He leaves you 2 1
clear out the row of 2, YOU WIN!

You are right RB, you can make him have the even numbers.

For some reason this method isn't working for me. I take four from the row of six to make it two and he takes four from the other row...

You have to work it out with the binary numbers.
Let me try again, maybe I didnt type it in right.
take away 4 from the 6
after he goes you're left with 2-5-2-3
take 2 from the 5
After he goes you're left with 2-3-1-3
get rid of one of the rows of 3 leaving you the 3 2 1 setup
after he goes you'll have 3-2
Make it 2-2
He'll make it 2-1
wipe out the row of 2 and you win.

Im sure there are other scenarios, but that's how it played out for me.

I finally got it once I figured the math out. He doesn't always choose what you listed, but it helps. I just wasn't thinking binary (4,2,1) and having trouble "translating" it out to the pearls.
