I love Jeff Legwold. I don't want to "know him" in a Biblical sense, but I do think he's the best thing that's happened to Broncos news since Adam Schefter.
If you don't read his Wednesday Inbox segment, you are missing out on solid insight - sometimes insight that you don't see elsewhere. Since things are painfully slow right now, I thought I'd share a few gems from this past Wednesday that were insightful to me:
However, the Broncos, before they were part of the three-way deal that got them Atlanta's 15th pick of the opening round, had talked to some teams about trading out of this year's first round.
But once they came out of the trade with the 15th pick -- a trade they easily got the best of -- that put them in a position to get a potential starter or give them the potential to trade the two picks to get up into the top 10 if they can find a taker.
I had heard bits and pieces about them expressing interest in trading down in the draft, but I always figured it was just you schmos talking out your asses. :-* But I trust Legwold's information (not that, you know, I don't trust yours! :D) This seems absolutely crazy to me! I'm glad we didn't pull it off.
They have never picked higher than 15 in Shanahan's tenure with the team -- they selected John Mobley and Deltha O'Neal the two previous times they picked at 15 -- but they have some flexibility this time because they also have the comfort of knowing if nothing happens, they still end up with two of the top 22 players on their board.
Nothing new here, other than just to state how great it is being a Bronco fan. Anyone who says Shanahan should be fired (not many of those lately, but there sure were a lot as recently as six months ago, after the opening-day loss to the Dolphins) should have to write the above excerpt from Legwold's Inbox 100 times on their closest chalkboard. Eleven years as our head coach, and we have never finished bad enough to draft in the top half of the draft. Someone who feels like doing the research, is there another team in the NFL that can boast that over the past eleven years?
Anyway, those two things jumped out at me from this last week's Inbox. I am like most here in that I read everything I can that has to do with the Broncos. Legwold's Inbox is a staple for me.
