BRONCOS IN EUROPE - Week Two

The second week of action in NFL Europe saw one of the Broncos' allocations make it onto the offensive stat sheet, two others continue to hold down their places in the starting lineup and two of last week's winning teams fall back to .500 with home losses.

Only the Rhein Fire remains unbeaten at 2-0, while the Hamburg Sea Devils stand as the league's only winless team, dropping to 0-2 following a 31-14 road defeat to the Frankfurt Galaxy.

Here's how the Broncos' quintet of allocated players fared in this weekend's action:

TE Wesley Duke, Hamburg Sea Devils -- After going without a reception in Week 1, Duke caught two passes for 10 yards as the Sea Devils fell to the Galaxy. Duke's first catch came 1:31 into the second quarter, gaining three yards on a first-and-10 play. Duke's second reception kept a Hamburg drive alive; it gained seven yards on a third-and-5 play. Duke was also the intended target on a pass attempt inside the Frankfurt red zone with 1:12 left in the second quarter.http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/4927/dukenfle0603202kf.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Wesley Duke had the first multi-catch
game of his professional career, but
his Hamburg Sea Devils fell 31-14.

C Rob Hunt, Rhein Fire -- For a second consecutive week, Hunt saw action coming off the bench.

DL Patrice Majondo Mwamba, Amsterdam Admirals -- The 2005 international practice squad player did not start but saw action during Amsterdam's 20-15 win over Cologne.

OL Erik Pears, Cologne Centurions -- The former Colorado State standout started for a second consecutive week at right guard.

CB Antwaun Rogers, Berlin Thunder -- Rogers started at left cornerback for the Thunder and notched three tackles and an assist during a 22-0 defeat. His first tackle saw him combine with James Thornton to stop Rhein wide reciever Chris Samp for a 2-yard gain on a third-and-4 play early in the first quarter. The play came at the Berlin 4-yard-line, and forced the Fire to settle for a 27-yard field goal by former Broncos preseason placekicker Ola Kimrin.

Rogers stopped Kendrick Starling for 8 yards on a pass play one possession later. In the third quarter he tackled Starling after an 8-yard gain once again, and in the final period he limited running back Frederick Jackson to two yards on a run play.

Erik Pears is lined up with some other player from the Ravens and they were being touted all night by the announcers - very impressive running game last night with my man Larry Croom (from UNLV) carrying the rock for big yards behind Pears. He had an awesome game against what appeared to be a crappy Dline.

Yeah .... What I saw of the Hamburg game, Duke looked lost. Berlin (Brock, not Thunder) never looked his way once ....

I remember Larry Croom back in the robinson days, didnt he sign with the cardinals?

The Chiefs had a CB that tore it up. 7 tackles, 2 passes defensed and a blocked field goal returned for a 72-yard TD.

Rich Scanlon. We have another guy over there who is going to impress. Kris Griffin. He's a DJ clone.

Yes he did, I think he is with the Rams right now - he would be a good pick-up for Denver if they drop Sapp. He is soo fast and shifty runs all over Europe every time he touches the ball - talk about being overqualified for the NFLEA. I think he was a transfer from some SoCal school (USC?) or he was one of the top HS recruit in SoCal? Help if I'm wrong.

That's better than any starter the chiefs have in their secondary at this very minute. Quick, sign him to a 7 year 5 million offer.

I hate that - it's my #1 pet peeeeever in FBall: a guy is given a shot to really improve and make a name for himself and he doesn't do his classwork or looks lost on the field. And then they have soooo much natural ability that they get by looking great in scale or the drills drifting along until the coach just gets tired of the gameday mediocrity and loses them in the crowd. Duke learn this NOW! YOU BEEN HERE TOO LONG TO BRUSH IT OFF AS "I'm still learning" (see his NFL Network Interview - guy sounded like he had no confidence and that he was still a freshman in the NLF U). Dude should be confident enough to lay tracks on those LB's. Damn, I hope he gets it together fast for his sake!

I only saw the last 10 minutes of the game, but yeah ... he looked lost ...
It's obviously still early, just two games in, but imo, he had no clue what he
was doing on that field .... just kept turning around and warching Brock Berlin
hand off or look elsewhere. He didn't block anybody either. from what
I saw, I'm actually surprised he caught two balls . . .

He looked decent enough when he played in the NFL, so IMO he should never have even gone to NFL Europe, if anything playing for a **** team like Hamburg may hinder him more.
