Janet's Camp fashions one haute party

No one would have blamed Janet Elway if she'd made like Sally Field at the Academy Awards and gushed: "You like me. You really like me!" at the Campy Couture cocktail party and fashion show held as a prelude to her June 24 Janet's Camp fundraiser for the YMCA.
But she didn't, and that was OK too because it was a given that everyone at this Saks Fifth Avenue soiree was on her side, ready to shower her with hugs and support as she re-enters the world of charitable fundraising. She'd put life in the spotlight on hold while she adjusted to life as a single mom following a highly publicized divorce from football legend John Elway.
She agreed to be the face of Janet's Camp at the urging
of longtime friend Jean Galloway. "I was still licking my wounds and not really interested in getting involved with anything" when Galloway approached, Elway said. "But how do you say no to Jean?"
The goal of Janet's Camp, to be held at Elway's Cherry Hills home, is to raise enough money to send 250 children from low-income families to YMCA summer camp.
Several of Janet's high-profile friends - including Mike and Peggy Shanahan, John and Lisa Lynch and Ed and Lisa McCaffrey, all tied to the Broncos; golfer David Duval and his wife, Susie, and Colorado Mammoth coach Gary Gait and his wife, Nicole - modeled outfits from Saks that would be ideal choices for the benefit.
Not all of the "good stuff" happened on the runway, though. Mixing and mingling with the 100-plus guests we learned:
Josh Hanfling has many fingers in the Janet's Camp pie, so to speak. He's on the Camp Counselor Steering Committee with David Alexander, Jamie Angelich, Lisa Herzlich, Dianne Honig, Kimball Howell, Beth Jackman and Betsy Wills; Qube Visual, the company that he founded, is printing the promotional posters; and at Campy Couture he delighted in pointing out that the fancy belt buckle he was wearing had been designed by San Francisco's Lisa Mackey, whose jewelry accessorized many of the Campy Couture ensembles. Turns out Mackey's a good friend and stayed with him during her Denver visit.

Peggy Shanahan, left, wife of Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, modeled in the Campy Couture show, and won the party's grand prize, a two-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch. Kay Cline is the general manager of Saks Fifth Avenue Cherry Creek, which provided both the locale and clothes for Campy Couture.

Janet Elway, left, with Nicole Gait and Susie and David Duval. Elway is helping the YMCA raise enough money to send 250 children from low-income homes to summer camp by opening her Cherry Hills home for Janet's Camp, which takes place on June 24. Gait's husband coaches the Colorado Mammoth lacrosse team, David Duval is a champion golfer who makes his home in Colorado

I never got the complete story on this one. Why did the divorce happen? I hate to think that John got tired of Janet and went off in search of younger tail...
Anyone know how and why it went down?

Her charity seems like it has been as good for her as it should be for the targeted kids. Good for Janet! Video of Janet in the attached link.

Janet has always been an attractive woman to me and Shanny's wife is not bad herself.
And Jake is dating a Bronco cheerleader, at least our Broncos have good taste in woman.
To bad for John and Janet they got a divorce.

Despite your expertise in recognizing inbreeding, Bob, I hate to disappoint you but you are wrong in this case.
Janet needs to drop the Elway name and make a life, of her own, on her own name.
She got enough from John. Doesn't need to leech of his name anymore.

i have nothing to back this up so take it with a grain of salt...But a group of people I know had heard that the main reason for the split up was that she wanted John to run for Gov. of Colorado, he did not want to. She was not handling being out of the spotlight well and wanted John and the Elway's to be a big splash again. The in-fighting led to the divorce. Like I said I have nothing to back this but hearsay.

WTF are you talking about Baja. She filed for divorce, she kicked John out. She wanted the divorce. So, in my eyes, she should have gone back to her madien name. If she didn't want to be with the man anymore. Than she shouldn't have any reason to keep is damn name.
AS for Meck and his weak Neg rep of my statement. All I can say is I hope you someday have to deal with a divorce and what it does to you. No matter what amount off money you have, it sucks. You work and support a female only to have to give up half of it.

And? She is nothing without his name and she knows it. The kids have nothing to do with it. And she won't remarry. Not as long as John is alive and giving her money. She remarries and that money is gone.
What a bunch of cave men. Janet Elway endured all the invasion of the press just as much as John did. They raised a family together and shared all the burdens and the rewards of being "The Elways" in Denver a one trick pony town back in those days. Janet has earned the notoriety of the Elway name just as much as John. To say she show should be tossed to the curb because their relationship has shifted into not being married is an off the chart shovanistic statement IMO.

Thank you, for the voice of reason. What a bunch of idiotic posts, especially in light of the reason she is in the media right now - doing something for the less fortunate is always noble. Bravo Janet - we as a nation are considerably more self-centered than we used to be. The keyword you used is EARNED, she did earn the notoriety of the ELWAY name. Our society places no value on the women who stays home to raise the kids, putting their own career aspirations aside. Of course, we just label her as a gold-digger, not a woman that loved a husband in a marriage that ultimately turned bad. I doubt John was an angel to live with regardless of his media darling reputation. It is always unfortunate to see people of fame unable to keep a marriage together.

I crawled out of the reality rock here in the real world. Truth is, if she hadn't married John, none of you would even know her name right now, nor care about here. And her name is Johns, as in Elway.
Now in all seriousness, none of us really know what may have happen with her had she not married John. But who really cares though? They married, had kids, and divorced. It's no very uncommon. She is keeping the Elway name. Why? Who knows who cares other than John.

So what that John is the big football player and Janet is the house wife. What the hell is the point....
Life at home began to unravel. Janet, his college sweetheart and then his wife, left him. It became front-page news in Denver. They reconciled, then Elway left, and now they are divorced, the kids spending one week with mom, the next with dad.
"It was the same with the divorce -- it was like I had no control. All the attention -- it's something my wife got tired of. Being out in public and having no privacy had a lot to do with it, but it wasn't something I could control.
