That's a fantastically weird branch of religious zealots right there.
Anyone who holds a sign like that outside the funeral for a dead soldier deserves whatever he gets.

I've heard of these protesters in other states but not CO. They are some sick SOB's. If a sucided bomber could ever be good for anything, taking these a-holes out might be it.
On a better note I had heard about the bikers shielding the sick bastards from the funerals. From the looks of the picture it looks like the bikers are doing a helluva job.

I heard about this a few weeks back. I don't get their logic. They are protesting because these soldiers are defending a country that accepts gays. I think that's what this is all about. If that's the case, shouldn't they protest just about anything that is american?
What does defending the country have to do with gays anyway? Would these protesters perfer that the soldiers not defend this country, so some terrorest group can come and take over? I don't get it.

During the 60's free speech movement in Berkley(sp?) the Oakland chapter of The Hell's Angels had a bit of an in with the hippie underground. Through Hunter S. Thompson the Angels were not only introduced to Ken Kesey and his band of merry pranksters come hippies, but to LSD as well. The Angels were not only welcomed, but were guests of honor at acid parties all over the bay area.
The hippies invited the Angels to one of their anti-war protests. They were horrified to find the Angels beating through the security cordon of the police officers, and continuing on to crack hippy skulls.
Soon thereafter...the president of the Oakland Chapter of The Hell's Angels, Ralph "Sonny" Barger...penned a letter to president Johnson...offering the services of the Angels...for behind the lines duty in Vietnam. According to Barger the Angels were experts in guerilla warfare tactics.
Bikers...even the worst of them are patriotic.

I have met those sweethearts in person during a demonstation on my campus...pretty sickening.
Don't worry ... they, too, shall one day be judged just like the rest of us. We are called to focus on the needs of, instead of judging, others. What this group is doing is disgraceful. They were in my community three weeks ago for a soldier's funeral. Hundreds of community members were invited to attend the service "outside" to create somewhat of a shield between the group and the family.
That's Fred Phelps group. He's a total nut job. He came to WV back in Feb. He went to a memorial for the Coal miners that died in the mine fire.
He claims that GOD is killing the inocent do to the sins of the country allowing gays to be reconized.
No matter if it's a Solider, Mine Worker, or other tragic death. He and his group of nuts, mainly his children, and his lawyers go publicity hunting.
Before he goes to the area he notifies the local media and attempts to drum up coverage.
He begs for someone, anyone, to attack his group. He claims it's proof of the sins of the country. He also wants for his civil right to be broken and wants to be attacked. This way he can sue and make a profit.
A local AM talk show had him on a few times. They want/needed ratings. He dropped teh F%G word repeatly over the airwaves. Now I'm a Stern and Bubba fan, vulger talk makes me laugh. As long as it's in a joking manner.
I can't stand one group tryign to control another group. Life is hard enough. Just do your thing and let everyone else do theirs.
I've read articles from two of his kids (not followers of dear old dad) that claim he was/is abusive to them growing up and was a drunk, wife battering man with little respect for anyone.
He had the kids working scams to make money.
He's a cult leader.

I drove by one of their favorite protest sites yesterday and I took notice of something even more sickening than the signs themselves. KIDS, probably no older than 10 or 11, were holding some of these signs saying "God hates..." Another guy was holding a smaller child in his arm while he protested. This clan thinks they speak for average families and they DON'T...

These sickos are in CO alot, I have seen them in Springs at least 3-4 times in the last few years, I think they drive all the way from Kansas. I alway roll my window down and yell at them when I can. I know it's their right to protest but they have no respect for anyone to do that at a funeral. Don't they have rules or something about getting a permit to protest? I thought that when KKK idiots do their crap that they have to be like 500 ft. or yards away from sensitive areras? I'm not sure but these people should be lumped in to the same groups as those skinheads. I have the same feelings for them. I would not piss in their mouth if their gums were on fire

It's easy to sit back and say guys like these are "nut jobs"--and it is most certainly the truth--but that's a little more difficult for the people being affected. Imagine the people at the funeral. No matter how much you realize these guys are idiots and nothing they do can or will ever mean anything to you, they are already winning merely by being present. They are in your head. You are thinking about them. They have willfully entered your thought process in an effort to belittle your existence, and, whatever you might think of them, that is a process you are powerless to stop.
And for every nut job that hates gays and does things like this, there are five otherwise perfectly normal and/or rational people that really, truly believe gay people are an unnatural blight on this earth that ought not be tolerated. That's what gets me the most. I mean--do these people think? Have they ever even <i>seen</i> a gay person? I don't get it. I wish I did, to be honest; it's easier to fight something if you can understand it. Play ball on their court.

I'm personally am an agnostic but have love for people for all faiths but do think the Bible maybe was influneced just a little bit by the people that wrote. Think about it. Back in the day strength came in numbers. Who ever had the biggest tribe ussaully whooped the most ass. Gays don't reproduce thus if homosexuality becomes commonplace tribes shrink. Thus God hates gays don't do it. Not saying the Bible isn't 100% accurate, noone will ever know but it may have been influnced a bit by cultures and other factors.Take the flood story for example. You know the one with Noah pretty much plagerized the Gilgamesh.

I remember when they protested the Matthew Shepard funeral up in Wyoming, I heard that a bunch of people dressed up in angel costumes with gigantic wings and then stood right around Phelps' group so you couldn't see them. Best way to handle the douchebag.
They came to Greeley while I was at UNC. More security for that than Broncos training camp.

Well Pendejo, that's all true but you forgot the most important part.
The majority of those bikers were veterans of Vietnam and saw those hippie protestors spit on their compatriots returning home from a war no one wanted to be in.
Indeed, biker's began from veterans, mostly former WWII pilots who found somewhat of the same freedoms on a bike as they did in their airplanes. Most were patriotic and loved this country and, like most veterans, get pissed off at people who disrespect this country as the hippies did on a daily basis.
