I thought I did this with the closeup setting...but the flower did get a little blurry...my background is clear...mmmmmm....weird it looked ok until I ran it through photobucket.

You know, it may just be photobucket. I notice that it tends to scale down the quality of images. While the foreground is a bit blurred, I'm sure it plays into it.
I uploaded those two on imageshack and I don't notice any real loss of photo quality.

I'm going to try printing it out and see what happens...it looks different here than what I'm seeing on my screen.

Anytime I do any photo resizing in Paintshop Pro, I always sharpen the image afterwards. I'm thinking the blurring may be the result of the pic being resized.

Cool pictures.
I got the wife a Nikon Coolpix 5900 and we like it a lot. I compared it a lot of other digital cameras and it had the best quality, options, and simplicity for it's amount. We won't be taking anything like Pez, but we've taken some pictures that we really liked and had them blown up to 8x11 and not have any distortions.
Some say that Kodaks have better color, although not as good as quality, but by switching the color mode to it's finest setting (takes up a lot of memory but we have two 1 GB memory cards) I haven't noticed any difference between a comparitable Kodak model in the color.
I still haven't found a photo software bundle that I really like yet though.

Thanks, its kind of crazy. Something I have fallen into the last few months. So much so that I would like to make it a profession. At that point I realized I have been going to school for about 3 1\2 years doing things that have very little to do with photography.
Air Force here I come. I will be joining the AF and doing photog. with them. When I get out they are going to pay for me to go to a photoag school.
Kind of a crazy turn of events.

I own several cameras... .an HP Photosmart that I carry around with me just in case... a Nikon D2X for work. I use a more mobile Nikon D100 for on-the-go jobs... I always use the Nikon digital SB-2800 speed light.
I'll show you some of my freelance stuff (none of the military stuff or studio stuff) that I have been working on(PLEASE dont use any of these)...

I suspect you were looking at either the 5D from Canon or maybe the IDs Mark II. Lets put it this way, the D2X may have a 1x5 zoom factor, but the in-camera features make it one of the top 2 cameras out there.
By the way, here is my latest specs for my setup
Camera
Canon EOS ID-Mark II 8.2 Megapixel camera (mmm 8.5 frames per second)
Zoom Lenses
Canon 17-40mm F4-L Lens
Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L Lens
Canon 28-135mm F3.6-5.6 IS USM Lens
Canon 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 IS USM DO Lens
Sigma 50-500mm F5.6-6.5 USM Bigma lens
Prime lenses
Canon 50mm F1.8mm
Canon 85mm F1.8mm
Canon 100mm F2.8mm Macro 1x mag
Accessories
1.4x Canon teleextender
B&W 58mm,72mm,77mm, and 86mm Circular polarizers and UV haze
Lee 150mm ND Grad hard 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 filters, 0.3 grad soft filter, 82c warming filter
Manfrotto Tripods, monopod, and ball head
and a 580 Flash
Can you say, UGH!

Not bad... not bad at all. I still prefer Canon, but the US Government has something about Nikons.
My setup
Camera - Nikon D2X (Studio, Journalism)
Nikon D100 (Live Action, VIP Events)
Flash - Nikon SBX-2800 Speedlight
Lenses -
Nikon 50mm
Nikon 14mm Fisheye
Nikon 28-200 zoom
Nikon 12-18 (great lens, dont know if you would call it a zoom though)
I have a Polarizer, 2 different tripods, and some filters, but never bothered to see what they were.

Perhaps somebody with some experience can tell me what settings are best for taking night pics. Like going out and taking pics of the Moon without having it be blury. I know I'm probably going to have to use a tripod being that the shutter speed is considerably slow with taking pics with very little light. I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ4 camara. Forgive me, I'm a newbie to the whole digi camara stuff.

That doesn't do it justice. If you ever get the chance to run the narrow track to Silverton, it's worth the price. Silverton is funkytown, or was, and it's just cool honestly.
If memory serves, that formidable mountain upper left looms over Silverton. It's crazy there. It's almost a ghost town except tourism.

Yeah, I used an Infrared converter inside of PSCS2 for that one. I had to really pull back on the contrast on it but I liked the detail it brought out on the cliff. Great picture Zach

Thanks bud, I dig the way that rock formation on the left interacts with the sky. Great photo as always.
Wow what a great thread. There are some very fine shots here. I have some I would like to share but can someone tell me how to crop and post from my computer?

Yeah, it's only 18 in Minnesota. I usually go to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen (spelling) to get my gambling fix once a month. I'm in college here at NDSU and I don't have a car, so I don't go to Minnesota as much as I'd like. That's probably a good thing, because I'd probably put down all my money on scratch tickets if I could. So maybe the law here in North Dakota is a good thing.

Hey guys. I've come to the conclusion that I need a tripod. But I don't know what to get. I'm assuming that most of todays tripods will fit with nearly any new digi camera correct?
Anyway, I just got volunteered by my wife to take the pictures for my church on Easter. So I need a pretty good tripod. But I don't want to spend 50 or more dollars.
Any websites to where I could buy one recommended by you guys? Or should I just head on down to Circuit City and see what they have?
Also, what max height would be good? 60-70 inches?

GB16, the first recommendation I would make is to find out at what average speed you are taking your pictures at. A good handheld shutter speed averages between 1/60th-1/2000th of a second for the shutter. Any less than 1/60th and you run the risk of shaking and blurry photos. Therefore, if you are taking low-light photography that requires a longer exposure, a tripod is a must. But, you could also even try a monopod like this one...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/largeimages/5520.jpg
This particular monopod will give you much more stability and wont be as cumbersome as a tripod in a travel situation. But, if you are taking portraits or need to stand the camera by itself, I would recommend getting this tripod below since it has a head and tripod ready.
