I just picked up the latest copy of the Sporting News Pro Football Draft issue.

With this talk of the Broncos drafting a QB, I found it funny that Sporting News compares Vince Young to Jake Plummer.

Vince Young, Texas

NFL comparison: Jake Plummer, Broncos

Arm Strength: Is big, strong and built like a rock but shows only an adequate arm. Still can make most of the necessary NFL throws and push the ball downfield. Puts zip on his passes. GRADE:8.6

Accuracy/delivery: Has improved as a passer but remains raw. Shows accuracy and timing. Must develop better mechanics and release point. His sidearm delivery might lead to passes being batted down in the NFL. Sometime throws off his back foot, which allows passes to float. GRADE:8.6

Field vision: Has the size to see the field well but must make better decision in certain situations. Struggles to read coverage. Must become more patient, stand in the pocket and give receivers time to get open. Sometimes tries to do too much. Shows great vision as an open-field runner. GRADE:8.6

Running ability: Is a remarkable athlete with outstanding speed and mobility. Is always a threat to run. Excels at avoiding rushes and breaking containment with great quickness and the strength to break would-be tackles. Is elusive and has the speed to outrun defensive backs. GRADE 8.9

Intangibles: Is tough, fearless and cool under pressure. Has a presence about him: has proved he can carry a team. Needs to improve his decision making and show he can run an NFL style offense. GRADE:8.8

Bottom Line: Young steadily has improved his game and offers great versatility and potential. He still has a long way to go as a passer, but his Rose Bowl performance made a big impression. FINAL GRADE:8.6

Just the kind of guy that could excel with Shanny and Heimerdinger coaching him!

That bolded part says it all and is the key ingredient that simply cannot be taught and, in combination with his other more tangible skills, can make for a true Super Star for 15 years ... and we all know well the value that a truly world class QB can mean for a team, a city and the entire fan base!

The areas he still needs to work on can all be coached and improved on, but not those essential intangibles that are so rare and is what often separates the true superstars from the other wise simply good players.

I found it funny that they gave Young an 8.9 in running ability. And gave Lienert an 8.6.

I think people underestimate Leinart's ability to scramble just because they see that knee brace. Leinart has ability. That said, I would think that Vince Young's mobility should rank at least a mid 9.

I can agree with you there. Leinart can move a bit, kind of like Tom Brady can move a bit in the pocket. But there should be a much bigger gap than .3 between Young and Leinart.

The only problem is that it's pretty much outdated the day it hits the news stands. I just read it this morning. Their mock draft is now outdated because of this recent trade.

If Vince Young gets a mid nine who in fuuck gets a 10? Superman? Did everyone see what Vince Young did to the two time defending national champions?

Remember Jawarski did a peice on NFL coundown saying Brady is the most mobile qb in the nfl? Then everone laguged at him.funny stuff. this is the same thing here. Leinart could move around in the pocket like Brady, but leinart is no vince young.

see the experts misinterpret mobility for pocket awareness

Brady,Leinart,Montana & etc have/had great pocket awarness

guys like Brett Favre,John Elway,Michael Vick,Jake Plummer,Vince young now their mobile QB's

alot of of writers will just say that mobility also means being abl to move around in the pocket which is true but it's more running & escaping than pocket awareness(which is what Leinart has)

I would rather use a comp 3rd on Marcus Vick...better citizen in the community with his foundation he considers animals..err..biatches...err objects and everything. Not to mention he's friends of Charlton Heston of the NRA.
