.....if you had the opportunity to ask Dubya 5 questions with an unconditional guarantee of honesty and no talking point responses, what would you ask, and what response would you expect?

1. Were you ever arrested for drug possession or being under the influence of cocaine?
2. Who pulled the strings to get you into the National Guard and thereby, avoid Vietnam service?
3. Was it your intention to invade Iraq before 9/11 ever happened, no matter what?
4. Before the invasion of Iraq, were you already pretty sure that no WMDs actually existed and that there was no connection between 9/11 and Saddam, or Saddam and Al Queda?
5. Who fixed the 2000 election for you?

In all candor, there is no evidence I've seen to indicate that Dubya is capable of speech at all if lying is specifically excluded... so I wouldn't expect any response whatsoever if those were the conditions.

Yeah, I was about to ask how the "unconditional guarantee of honesty" would be facilitated.

1. Why was your mother or your father the more important influence in your life? (Just kind of gets the ball rolling. I'm burning one.)

2. So, what's the whole story about Skull and Bones?

3. If your approval rating slips to a Harry Truman-like level (23%, or so), will you still keep the course you've set?

4. If you could drop a smart bomb on one American, without killing anyone else, and without any consequences, who would you target?

5. In your opinion, what is the end game for the war against radical Islam?

1) If you found out that North Korea or Iran had the nuke bomb and was prestaging a possible strike against us or Israel, would you blow the bastards up on a surprise or go to the UN or talk directly with those countries to thwart a strike and possible misinformation that happened before the IRAQ war?
2) Why are you so in love with giving illegal aliens a guest workers program when in reality it will keep millions of illegals in the states stealing low and middle range paying jobs that Americans should have?
3) If there were WMD in IRAQ and carried out of the country to Syria, Iran or such before the strike, how would you handle this situation?
4) If Republicans are notorious for smaller government, why have you not vetoed one bill and let our debt go out of control?
5) Can we get back to McCarthyism so we can kick out LABF for being a card carrying liberal ? Canada would be nice then he can hang out with my wacky aunt who bolted back there (born there) because bush was reelected.

I agree completely .... as an adjunct to my belief that, if you could get GW alone in a room, without advisors, notes, or the earpiece he wore in the first Kerry debate .... you would be APPALLED at how little he actually knows. Chauncey Gardener's got nothing on GW ....

I think if you could manage this, he would:

1) Not be able to name all 14 cabinet-level departments (much less the secretaries, though he might know a couppla his silly nicknames) .....
2) He would grasp little if any details concerning the military campaigns in either theater.....
3) He would have barely a cursory understanding of pre-war intel, and he'd recite what little he knew in over-simplified rhetoric ....
4) He could not recite the rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights .....

Remember .... this is the guy who INSISTED on having papa bear Dick Cheney by his side when he was questioned by the 9/11 commission. Shameful. And Why? Because he's an idiot, and the Commission would've seen through the over-generalized rhetoric he gives Helen Thomas and Richard Gregory. The 9/11 Commission expected DETAILS, and Chauncey knows none ......

I'm telling you guys, EVERY TIME HE SPEAKS, I watch him in the exact same way actor Richard Dysart watched Peter Sellers in "Being There" ..... and I think I've got him figured out, and I think GW knows shockingly little about what's going on.

The 9/11 Commission hearings w/ Bush+CHeney were off the record, remember? That was because the 9/11 issues were SO DANGEROUS, that one Quayle/Chauncey slip by Bush couldda ended the re-election campaign before it began ....

The over-under on how many times papa bear Cheney interrupted GW's answers during that closed-door 45-minute hearing? .... I'll say 10.

I am sure you know her if u go to Demo parties and such. Kicker? She can t vote as she is a Canuck. She probably does vote though. My 5 questions are from a conservative person. As stated before, I did nto vote for Bush once. First time I voted for McCain in primary then I probably voted for Bush in general election then voted for the American Independent (cant even remember the stiffs name) in the last elections. I dont hate Bush. I just dont like how the war started in IRAQ (never seemed to want to take a different approach then war) and his guest worker plan and lack of security at borders. Conservative first, Republican 2nd.

Speakin' of folks gettin' to ask Der Chimpenfuhrer questions and whatnot...

Bush Allows Helen a Question...

Outrageous: Helen Thomas Finally Gets to Ask Bush Why He Went into Iraq — He Answers ‘9/11′

http://www.pensitoreview.com/2006/03/21/helen-thomas-asks-bush-why-went-into-iraq-he-answers-911/

At his news conference today, President Bush took a question from Helen Thomas for the first time in four years. Helen, who is in her 80s, has been a critic of President Bush, so naturally he is terrified of her.

Helen has made it well-known what question she intended to ask Mr. Bush: Why did we go to war in Iraq?

His answer: You wanna know about Iraq? Let me tell you about Afghanistan. The president launched into the reasons we went to war against the Taliban, which gave him an excuse to connect the dots to Al Qaeda, and September 11 — and then he went a dot too far and connected September 11 to Saddam.

There you have it: We went into Iraq because of 9/11. The remedy for 9/11 was to get rid of Saddam. Yesterday, the president said he had always been “very careful never to say that Saddam Hussein ordered the attacks on America.”

When you read the president’s verbatim answer below, you’ll see that his statement makes no sense. This is intentional. It is a prima facie example of “mirroring,” a term I learned today which describes the linguistic hat trick that Mr. Bush and his team use to create their patented brand of truthiness.

According to BuzzFlash, mirroring is a way of obliquely phrasing an untrue statement so that a) listeners draw the intended false conclusion and b) the phrasing cannot be deconstructed to show that the statement was untrue.

Here is the master mirror man at work:

HELEN THOMAS: I’d like to ask you, Mr. President, your decision to invade Iraq has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis, wounds of Americans and Iraqis for a lifetime. Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is, why did you really want to go to war? From the moment you stepped into the White House, from your Cabinet — your Cabinet officers, intelligence people, and so forth — what was your real reason? You have said it wasn’t oil — quest for oil, it hasn’t been Israel, or anything else. What was it?

THE PRESIDENT: I think your premise — in all due respect to your question and to you as a lifelong journalist — is that — I didn’t want war. To assume I wanted war is just flat wrong, Helen, in all due respect —

HELEN THOMAS: Everything —

THE PRESIDENT: Hold on for a second, please.

HELEN THOMAS: — everything I’ve heard —

THE PRESIDENT: Excuse me, excuse me. No President wants war. Everything you may have heard is that, but it’s just simply not true. My attitude about the defense of this country changed on September the 11th. We — when we got attacked, I vowed then and there to use every asset at my disposal to protect the American people. Our foreign policy changed on that day, Helen. You know, we used to think we were secure because of oceans and previous diplomacy. But we realized on September the 11th, 2001, that killers could destroy innocent life. And I’m never going to forget it. And I’m never going to forget the vow I made to the American people that we will do everything in our power to protect our people.

Part of that meant to make sure that we didn’t allow people to provide safe haven to an enemy. And that’s why I went into Iraq — hold on for a second —

HELEN THOMAS: They didn’t do anything to you, or to our country.

THE PRESIDENT: Look — excuse me for a second, please. Excuse me for a second. They did. The Taliban provided safe haven for al Qaeda. That’s where al Qaeda trained —

HELEN THOMAS: I’m talking about Iraq —

THE PRESIDENT: Helen, excuse me. That’s where — Afghanistan provided safe haven for al Qaeda. That’s where they trained. That’s where they plotted. That’s where they planned the attacks that killed thousands of innocent Americans.

I also saw a threat in Iraq. I was hoping to solve this problem diplomatically. That’s why I went to the Security Council; that’s why it was important to pass 1441, which was unanimously passed. And the world said, disarm, disclose, or face serious consequences —

HELEN THOMAS: — go to war —

THE PRESIDENT: — and therefore, we worked with the world, we worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world. And when he chose to deny inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did, and the world is safer for it.

This is a reminder that President Bush is not as dumb as he acts. Incurious, unread and thick-headed, yes — but also a devious liar who is clever enough to fool a lot of the people most the of the time.

Some guy named Dave has a couple questions for Incurious George too:

"What is your relationship with the group called Project for a New American Century, and why is it that your policies here and abroad match perfectly with their agenda, including using a terrorist attack on the United States to prompt a pre-emptive war in the middle east?"

Follow-up when he denies knowing who PNAC is:

"If you know nothing about this radical organization, then how is it that Cheney, Jeb, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and other members of your administration and the GOP are the people responsible for founding this group, and how is it that your domestic and foreign policy EXACTLY MATCHES the agenda of this radical group?"

Good questions, Dave. :)

I've known stupid people, and I wouldn't go so far as to say GW is "stupid." I'd say he is of slightly below-average
intelligence. And people seem to like him on a personal level.

You know what he'd be great at? I don't know why I always have this image, but I see him as the regional manager
of a big city's Boston Market restaurant chain. "Oh, no, that's George. He's in charge of all the 'Boston Markets'
in this region - east of downtown, out to Aurora and all the way south to Castle Rock. Nice guy."

I wouldn't have a proplem with George managing a chicken chain or a few video stores. That wouldn't affect the lives of millions, only those who invest and frequent those particular establishments. No - it's just that people like you have been thoroughly and completely indoctrinated by radical right-wing propaganda over the past 20-30 years and you don't even know it.

Now, BushCo has moved your party so far to the extreme right that anyone to the left of Grover Norquist or PNAC nutjobs like Wolfowitz and Cheney can be written off as a left-wing extremist by Fox, Rush, MoonieMax.com, and all the other right-wing apparatchiks who spoonfeed your "news" to you.

Do you have polls or other evidence to support this, or is it just speculation?

In any event, it's sort of a misleading statement because most people don't really know Bush personally - all they know is the persona they see on their TV sets occasionally.

Actually, yes. Before the 2004 election, there was a poll that asked which of the 4 (Bush, Cheney, Kerry, Eddwrds) you'd most like to just sit down and have a beer with. I think GW got 55%.

... which I found very very strange considering that the guy "supposedly" stopped drinking alcohol (presumably including beer) nearly 20 years ago. If a guy's allegedly a teetotaler, then why are the pollsters hypothesizing about him consuming alcoholic beverages? Unless that claim, too (sobriety), is a lie.

Which only proves that Karl Rove and Bush's campaign did the best job of creating a marketable media persona for their candidate.

The people who responded to this poll still don't know Bush personally (remember- your original claim was "I'll bet most people kinda like the guy personally.") "Most people" don't know Bush personally.
