I thought I heard at one point in time shanny had a hard on for this guy. I think he would be an upgrade or BVP. I also heard Harrington was released today. I wouldn't mind seeing him in Denver

I've always kinda liked him. Like Joe V, he seemed to fill a need. I remember getting raked over the coals about Joe V. here.
BVP might make it.
I've always liked McMahon, I think he'd be an ideal backup in our system since he has many of the same tools as Plummer, but has never gotten much of a chance. I was pushing for him last year as well though, and many here thought I was crazy.
Then again, I also wanted us to make a move on Garrard before he resigned with the Jags, and look where his value is at now.

why...we have a backup.
why...we have a backup. Only one, McMahon just got cut from his second team in two years, he'd probably sign cheap and offer good camp competition for BVP. I'd prefer to keep 3 QBs on the roster at least until final cuts in case of injuries. Better than Jake or BVP getting hurt in the last week of pre-season, forcing us to sign someone then who has no clue about the offense.
That, and he could surprise enough to be worth a roster spot, he's still pretty young as well.

why...we have a backup.
Here are is career numbers:
PASSING
2/8 for 7yards.
Say Plummer breaks a finger in the first game of the year next year. What would are record be with BVP at QB. SCARY!
Yikes, we need someone. Not sure it is this guy. I would rather have some with more experience.

I'd take him. I'd also look hard at Harrington.

He has shown flashes as a back up in Detroit. But he really performed badly when he had his chances in Phili.
So, No.

I don't know. I used to think he would be a good backup for the Broncs, but now I think his time has passed and there are better options including BVP.

I'd be pissed if you signed him.

I would prefer to have Harrington personally, he is a more accurate passer.
I don't think we can afford him though, but I like McMahon a lot too.
My take on McMahon is that he's a lot like Plummer. Both are mobile QBs who work best on the run but have problems in the pocket. Plummer has matured quite a bit more, but I think McMahon has a stronger arm. I think his biggest problem is trying to do too much on offensively busted teams, leading to mistakes. He'd have to be retaught similar to Plummer, but if we were to sign him and do so he'd be able to step in running a slightly pared down offense without disrupting the rest of the team.
I'm not saying we sign him and immediately make him the #2. He' hasn't earned that and I don't see any team offering him an uncontested backup job. But giving him a fair shot with BVP in camp will let us at least get another QB in our system. As it is our depth chart is Plummer, BVP, then a call to ol' Danny Kannell again. Sorry but I'm not real crazy about that. Some competition for BVP would be a good thing as well.
I'd consider Harrington but I think he'll be given more money than we'll want to offer and would expect at least an uncontested backup role, if not a shot at taking a starting job if he has a great camp and pre-season. Also, he's not nearly mobile enough for our current offense, so should he actually get into a regular season game our entire offense would need to shift gears.

I might give him a shot. I think we're going to miss Kubiak's influence on developmental quarterbacks more than anybody imagines.

I think McMahon would be a good pick up. I think Harrington would cause a QB controversy.

McMahon can't throw his way out of a paper bag. He's had a few years to grow and improve as a pocket passer but he hasn't. Pass.
