Okay....so let's take a look at our Options for a viable backup....since Van Pelt is almot a gimmick.

Tommy Maddox
Aaron Brooks
Patrick Ramsey
Joey Harrington
Brian Greise
Kerry Collins(I'd rather shiv myself)

I'm sure there's more......Who do you think we should bring in to Back up the snake?

Frerrotte...

Gus and BVP can fight for the 2nd spot, loser goes home.

Brooks. He'd easily beat out BVP for #2 and I wouldn't be quite as worried should Jake get hurt, god forbid.

I dunno....I'd like Maddox. He's got all of his experience in the "We're gonna hand it off 90% of the time, so when you throw, just don't **** it up" system.

The head banger Gus...no question.

I think Brooks would do well in your system.

BVP would like a drinking buddy in Griese.

Brooks may cost too much. If he doesn't, Brooks is a no-brainer. Otherwise Ferrotte and BVP can duke it out.

Question: If we did sign Brooks, would you rather say sayonarra to BVP, or carry three QBs?

Rod Smith = #3 QB - He would beat out any of those on the list....forgettaboutet.

If bob could toss a pigskin like he can toss a salad (so Ive heard) I'd say sign him.

What makes you think Shanny has the same appraisal of BVP?? I think Mike stays on HIS plan...two QB's, one a long shot project with mega-potential. It seems like the PLAN has the axiom of "lose your starter and you're screwed anyway."

Which of those guys (see above) have mega-potential?

Griese, just to see what happens to this board LOL

We might bring in a vet that Shanny knows (i.e. Ferrotte), but not someone who wants a real shot to start (like Brooks). They'll have to compete with BVP to be second string, nothing more. Honestly, I think we stick with BVP and draft a QB in the mid to late rounds. Anything later than the 4th though and we'll probably look to practice squad him.

I'm fine with BVP backing up myself. His throwing still needs work, but he made strides last year and likely will again this off-season. He can also make plays at the NFL level running the ball.

Fact of the matter is, if Jake goes down we need a miracle to keep winning. No old vet is going to change his stripes from backup to star, but BVP has a lot of potential left and could, very unlikely though it may be, pull something off in that regard.

Looks like Frerotte is off the list.
"Frerotte set to sign deal with Rams"

None of the above.

Keep BVP and teach the team the single wing.

Brooks...Frerotte is supposed to sign with the Rams
