Nate Webster has waited a long time to get back on the field. The Denver Broncos are willing to give him that chance.
Webster officially became the first free agent not to have worn Denver's uniform last season to sign on the dotted line to play for the Broncos in the upcoming one. The veteran linebacker signed for two years with a $200,000 signing bonus.
He'll earn base salaries of $585,000 in 2006 and $710,000 in 2007.
But the 2007 season would void and Webster would become a free agent in the unlikely event he plays at least 75 percent of the defensive snaps in the upcoming season. Webster is expected to be a backup - he played the middle for the Cincinnati Bengals - and play special teams.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis routinely has lauded Webster's work ethic and high-energy approach.
But Webster has struggled for much of the past two years because of a knee injury he suffered in September 2004. He tore the patella tendon in his right knee against the Baltimore Ravens and had surgery.
He then pushed his rehabilitation too hard to come back and had another knee operation in 2005. Webster finally was activated in November but played in only one regular-season game.
In two years with the Bengals, Webster played in four games.
Webster, drafted by Tampa Bay in 2000, was a teammate of Broncos safety John Lynch on the Buccaneers championship team in 2003.
ABRAHAM VISITS SEATTLE: New York Jets defensive end John Abraham was in Seattle on Wednesday visiting with Seahawks officials. Tony Agnone, Abraham's agent, is trying to secure trading partners for the three-time Pro Bowl selection.
Abraham is scheduled to fly to Atlanta from Seattle and then visit with the Broncos before the week is over if he's still on the market.
The Falcons have traded several proposals with the Jets recently.
Abraham is designated as New York's "franchise player" - receiving a one-year contract offer for a guaranteed $9.96 million that he has not yet signed while the team tries to trade him - and would need to sign a contract before the Jets can send him to another team.

I think we should consider mounting an email campaign to enourage the Post to hire a competent reporter. I knew losing Adam S. would be a loss but I never thought the Post would bring in such a hack as Burger Bill. Wonder is wabbit would want the job?

The official site never announces signings until the guy has officially signed on the dotted line, unlike other teams who announce signings once a deal has been agreed upon. The Broncos site is usually 2-3 days after everyone else announces the agreed to deal.

Like I said, I'll believe it when I see more. As it stands, RMN is the only "everyone announces" that I can find.

If the team is supposedly "strapped" for cash why are they spending it on a Special Teamer/Backup? I dont get it...

Can you believe the Jets are going to screw this poor guy again by forcing him to play for $10 million next year? He should call another one of his personal wildcat strikes to make people aware of the inhuman working conditions.

I wouldn't call a 200k signing bonus and a base minimum salary deal splashing cash.

Isn't this pretty close to the league minimum for a third year player?
Maybe at that price, he's considered a bargain worth taking a chance on...

I say we do a letter writing campaign to have the Mane better represented with the Broncos organization. I can name 30 posters on this board who would a better job for free than he does for fat dollars.
Can you imagine Popps and T.J. in a locker room interview?

Denver had 7 LB's on the roster already...now there is 8...I guess this means one of either 3 (Burns, Predator, Green) are going to be released sometime in the future...unless they plan on holding onto 8 LB's on this years roster...

Predator is a FA & underutilized in our system.

Preditor is a FA and they are not resigning him. Burns is a great ST player who can fill in at MLB in a dire emergency. Green is another ST guy who has not proved he can play a position. Webster can back up all three LB positions - If he can make the team. Wouldn't surprise me if one or two more BU types were brought in either in FA or draft.

Everytime I saw him on the field playing defense last year, he was consistently getting in the backfield and getting pass rush. Why they didn't put him out there more, I have no idea.

For real. Usually Cory would just go over the top Walter Payton style. Probably caught a cramp or something.

Cause the front office is a bunch of blundering idiots... We get are butts whooped by NE and PIT (and thanks to our D we win the NE game) yet we get rid of 2 offensive starters..We are moving like snails this offseason, I think someone needs to re watch some tapes of how poorly we played offensively and Pass rush wise last year.
