RB (#27)
Year: 2000
Denver Broncos
Round: 1
Roseland, NJ
Position: 11
Salary History
2006 600000.00
2007 795000.00
2008 990000.00
Rocky/DPO claimed there was a $750,000 signing bonus as well so unless there are any roster bonuses included, his deal is a mere 3 years $3.15m and a cap hit of $850,000 this season.
He really didn't do much to deserve a big deal. There may be some incentives in the deal. I would assume starts/yardage/TD/playoff's/awards.

Chump change these days. He comes cheap for 3 years.

If he does what I think he'll do next year, then that will be renegotiated. remember, Shanny only got rid of Portis becuase he insisted on being THE highest-paid running back, if he had been prepared to accept top 5-7 money then Shanny would probably have renegotiated and kept him even though he was still under contract - just like he did with MA.

Dayne isn't a every down back. He isn't going to have great numbers.

Dayne is depth... a role player, nothing more.

That he wasn't an every down back last season is a matter of fact. that he showed he could be every time he got the ball is indisputable...
What people plainly fail to realise is that the NFL is just like other workplaces sometimes - talented people do get passed over for promotion! In NY Dayne was competing against an equally talented back that was a better fit for the offense, so he never got a look in. Here, he has bided his time, done what's asked of him and is poised to show every one next year why he won the heisman in college.

What concerns me about Dayne is the fact that he was unable to unseat either Anderson or Bell last season. Unlike WR or QB, RB is not a position that takes a couple of years in a system to master. It is a purely talent driven position. That's why you see so many rookie RBs make immediate impacts (I know it took Portis 8 games to win the starting position, but I think that was due primarily to fumbling concerns). So if Dayne is truly the starter of the future, why did he have to "bide his time?" I can't imagine Shanahan is the type of coach to start Anderson out of blind loyality. My guess is that Mike and Ron were pretty equal, and Shanahan chose Dayne for 06 purely because he's younger and cheaper - I just hope that translates to having more gas left at the end of games next year.

My guess is that Bobby Turner liked Dayne....but had MA and Bell in front of him because they were proven. Why stick a FA in your gameplan when you've got valid starters in front of him? Seems like a natural progression that MA has moved on and Dayne moves in....since he proved that he can be a game-winner. He definitely has enough game in him for Bobby to decide to let MA go.
As for Bell....the jury is still out on him. Yes, he's talented, but not necessarily as an everydown guy. We keep looking for a 3-4 yard chugger that doesn't get tired and can break it now and then.....like TD could. It looks to me like the 2-back system is going to have to work.....and hopefully Bell buys in. His career will last a lot longer that way...but the money isn't as good.

I don't feel that I even need to argue the point becuase I just KNOW that Dayne will do it for us - we'll all be wondering why we didn't see it sooner this time next year.....
come join me on my cloud....it's nice up here...:peace:
I've been a Dayne homer since we got him. Me and majick ugg.
I'm a Watts homer too! ;D
Every one's worried about the lack of signings but I think we will see some new O stars this season and they are already on the roster.
Do regret not signing A. Carter though.

Dayne is not our answer, he came cheap because thats the level of play we'll get from him. Nice role player but a tier 2/3 player in my mind. If he was all that we would have seen him when we most needed a running game against the Pats and Steelers. Draft a featured back Mike!!!!

Dayne will be a stud as the starter!!!
Another year in our system and he is trying to slim down a little more before next season. Midway through the Season He will have more rushing yards than Jamal Lewis and you can take that to the bank!!!

Bit confused with that Herc considering ESPN stated 6 year deal $36m inc $10m in bonuses, that would leave approx $6m unnaccounted for, unless they meant the full $10m was a signing bonus and didn't include other bonuses. If that's the case and there are no other incentives this year his cap hit is $2.6m and affects Denver's cap by $2.3m.

I'm guessing there are some roster bonuses built in, and that will make up for some of that $6M.

When was it announced that Dayne was the #1? I don't see that coming into fruition until after camp. Remember the Bubby Brister debaucle? He and everyone else thought the team was being handed to him on a silver platter.

It looks like the Broncos are willing to take cap hits this season that otherwise could have been spread out in an effort to get into a better cap situation for future seasons which I think is a good idea. That is unless Washington really has figured something out and will have no day of reckoning

I'd like to see Dayne play around 230-225, and then give him the ball 30 times. I have no doubt he could average over 100 yards a game for us.

IF the Broncs draft an RB, history says he won't be starting for 5-6 games no matter how good he is. TD took 5 games I believe, Portis 7. How much that had to do with Kubiak, nobody knows.
With all the picks Den has, sure why not grab an RB. Is a super-duper back a have to? No. A passing game is a have to. The Den running game will be fine with the backs on the roster right now. Dayne would be a fine every down back. Bell, no. Unless he fgures out the passing game fast. Dayne understands the passing game.

I think that's about as certain as death and taxes...
BTW, I'm on the Dayne train. Whenever he touched the ball, he knew where the holes were. That's something Bell still needs to learn.

Cedric Humes from VT...maybe a 2nd or 3rd since I hope we get Brandon Marshall in the 2nd.
