The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins have begun converting about $13.5 million in total roster bonuses due to players in 2006 into signing bonuses, which will clear about $10 million in total cap space.

They're loading up for this year. They're gonna get hammered when the bill comes due for all of these restructures they've already made.

This has to be some kind of record for the amount of restructured deals in one offseason.

Yeah, I seriously think they've restructured every contract on their team that's above the minimum. Danny Boy probably just held a pow-wow in the locker room with a giant couldrun of money and a top hat with the names of each player on the team.

"Let's see.....Chris Cooley gets.....10 million converted to guarnateed money!"

"Next we have.....CP!.....contract void in '08, 15 mill roster bonus this year, and a new stripper poll for his basement! Who's next?!"

They'll be competitive ONE year and then be back in the cellar ... not a way to create a winning organization, a winning season perhaps, but not an organization.

Gibbs wants to go with another Lombardi and he´s not gonna be around for that much longer. 2 years tops.

Yeah. They're going for broke and will likely get there in a few years.

doesnt seem smart to me...building for one season

so many things can go wrong to ruin a single season taht it doesnt seem worth gambling on when you could use your head and build a good team intelligently. it doesnt work out and they are further back than ever.

im hoping the **** hits the fan for them

They're also dumping draft picks. Snyder has figured out that the only meaningful punishment the League can realistically assess to a team that's over the cap is forfeiture of draft picks and you can't lose what you don't have.

Even I can't believe what I'm seeing. A lot of things can go wrong in a season no matter how stacked of a team you are. AT LEAST these guys are younger and are right about to hit their prime, unlike jeff george, bruce smith, deion, etc...

What I'm more disappointed about is the Broncos lack of movement. I'm skeptical that they only have 7.5 in cap space or whatever it is. This is really uncharacteristic of the Broncos organization...its usually a well run organization, but this offseason seems really incompetent so far.

its usually a well run organization, but this offseason seems really incompetent so far. Since we're all of, what, three four days into the offseason? A lot people around here were pissed about us not making any crazy moves two days into FA last year too. We seemed to do better than the skins did and in a stronger division.

They won't make it ... they'll fall short and wonder why they overspent; it'll take them YEARS to recover from this free-spending.

One thing to the Redskins' advantage is their joke of a schedule.

The problem is this year (probably because of the CBA issue) things seem to be moving real fast. Players are taking no time to lock up with teams and teams are after players with less of the BS that usually goes on. It has that feeling that you have to act quick or you will lose out. Im not saying this just because the redskins signed all these players. Even other teams are acting quicker than usual. I hope the Broncos prove me wrong, because well they are very close to the super bowl.

you came to this conclusion because the broncos didn't over spend on slighty above talent?

Adam f'n Archuleta is now the highest payed safefty in NFL history...IMO, and most of the NFL, that's no way to spend your money.

$5 million per season...lol....enjoy.

What could REALLY kill them is if they have a rash of injuries. If they are right up against the cap and then end up having to sign players to come in for guys they lose for a siginficant amount of time they will be REALLY screwed.

Murphy's Law coming right up :) ... just like this last year when we had the Redskins' first round pick and they ruined our 1st round hopes by winning down the stretch ...:confuzzle

And it is the same argument every year. Meanwhile, the Broncos are going to p!ss away a chance at the SB. Believe me, they will be lucky to make the playoffs if they keep the current team assembled the way it is. Last thing I want is to be passed by the chefs, chuggers or raiders. We can't rely on Rod forever and with Lelie you never know what will happen. Do you trust Dayne or Tatum for 16 games? And do we ever have a pass rush from the front 4 for any period of consistency or are we going to let teams have 10 seconds to throw the ball again. I can't stand Coyer man...that guy is wasting the talent on the Broncos D.

Hey, I'm jealous.

Not of their team, but of the splash they're making. They've made a bunch of very solid signings. Tell me you guys wouldn't like to have Carter, Randel El and Fauria added to our squad.

Hopefully, we'll kick it in gear, soon.

Yes, and they'll be good for one year ... two years tops and then back to the cellar.

we've been saying it will catch up with them for sometime for a few years now. It never will. Face it they know something we don't.
