Wouldn't shock me. He doesn't have enough character concerns to be one of the Broncos free agent targets anyway.

we cannot be thinking about another LB. and andre is a LB. and i just don't know john abraham is in the class of "premier d.e." like the "shutdown corner" he salivated for in champ bailey.
i say we keep communication open with the packers and 49ers until the draft day, for last minute trades to get mario williams.

He's not a natural LB, he was converted to one last year when the 49ers switched to a 3-4. He's naturally a pass rushing DE, which he was for his entire career up until last season.

Abraham is the better pass rusher. But acquiring Carter wouldn't cost them a 1st rounder and he wouldn't command as much $$ as Abraham.
So we can get Abraham and cough up a 1st rounder or get Carter, keep both 1st rounders and eat up less cap space.
I guess it comes down to your preference but I'd take option B.

i am against this whol abraham thing cuz of the money and pick needed to do the deal. plus he's a quitter.
andre carter may not be the same caliber, but he'll be much less andcan give us flexibility draftwise. at this point, it seems deangelo may actually slide down to us. All I see in him is LT reincarnate. LenDale would be nice too, but DeAngelo is a very productive guy.

placed with the right DL Carter is just as effective as Abraham, he had 12.5 sacks his 2nd year when SF had a great defense
with the way Coyer runs the D & with Carter likely there to rush the passer & Brown to hold up against the run Carter could get 8-12 sacks like Bert Berry

Carter could be very good on Denver if we get another good DT to go with Warren
Brown is gonna stuff the run & keep people off his side,Warren is gonna clog up that middle, the right DT can stop the run & rush the passer a bit(Bunkley), so that leaves (Darrent)Williams,Lynch & Carter to blitz their eager little hearts out :)

Ditto ... how often do the Broncos have 2 1st round picks? I think we'd be in great shape by keeping both. If, after the draft starts, a player the Broncos like begins falling, it'll give the team some leverage to trade up yet perhaps still have two 1st round picks (they'd trade a 2nd or 3rd rounder with one of the 1st round picks).

I think it's not so much a casse of being high on Carter as it is fear of the perceived alternative, signing Abraham to a big money contract and forfeit a first round pick
Lestat

he technically had 2 good years, he had a very good rookie year, outstanding 2nd year & then 2 not so good ones, but this year was mostly cause they had him switch to LB, in Denver he'd be in a role of pass rusher or even the hybrid chukwurah role(just every down instead of 3rd down)
this is a young guy who when he had a good DL that allowed him to do his job accounted for 12.5 sacks in his 2nd season, that talent is still there & Denver has done alot more with alot less talent & potential than what Carter brings
as i said in another thread if you can keep Courtney healthy again, Warren play as well or better than last season & get a DT to pair along with Warren then Carter will provide the needed pash rush
the Broncos best was a 3 man tie for 4 sacks each, Carter had 4.5 as a newly shifted LB, you put him in the right scheme(Coyer's) where they bring pressure & attack he will succeed & plus getting him is low risk
you trade a 1st for Abraham, pay him & he gets hurt or becomes a malcontent your on the hook(and look might stupid), if Carter bombs you slip Ekuban in & the guy you took(lets say Manny Lawson or Tamba Hali) & the risk is lessened a great deal + getting Carter & keeping the 1sts saves on cap & allows Denver to go into other needs
don't know about you guys but i rather like the thought of Jackson,Bunkley & Carter instead of Jackson & Abraham.
it's sorta like trading the 1st last year, you don't give up much & you get alot in return

no, it does sound like they are high on andre carter. i remember shanny going on and on about this guy after the draft he came out.
besides the switch from 4-3 to 3-4, any other reason why his production dropped a lot? does he have an injury problem?

You can throw his stats out for the last two years. SF has sucked balls. Put him next to Big Money and see double digit sacks. Teams didn't have to pass against SF, they were always ahead.
C. Brown, Warren, Carter...I can handle that for sure...then we have a truckload of picks, save money and a draft pick.
Lestat
03-13-2006, 02:37 AM
the switch from 4-3 to 3-4,injury that limited him to 7 games in 04,
i'd just like to point out that Carter has 32 career sacks & only the past 2 years has he failed to record atleast 7 a year also has 7 career forced fumbles
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2555
also i just love this quote *Carter was the first player to register a sack against the offensive line of the Indianapolis Colts in 2005, sacking QB Peyton Manning in Week 5 (10-9-05).
edit: also from what i remember Shanny had a deal worked out for Carter(#6 or #7 pick with Shanny intended to select Carter with) but the other team balked at the last 2nd
either way Shanny was in love with him back then, & also remember Shanny said Warren was back DT in the draft(he might have said best D player) when he was drafted & look where Warren is now :D

The Redskins did what the Broncos haven't yet, massively restructure players' contracts because the 30% rule no longer applies. They were only in bad shape if a new CBA couldn't get done.

Carter, a pass-rushing end, was the second player to leave Redskins Park yesterday, heading out around 2:45. Carter is drawing significant interest from other teams -- Denver among them, according to a source -- and he, too, left without signing. He was accompanied to his limo by Greg Blache, assistant head coach -- defense, who wished him well and added, "We hope to see you back here." Carter did not speak to the media.
