View Full Version : NFL : Tagliabue likely to step down after 2006 season or sooner
ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue will likely step down as commissioner after the 2006 season or sooner.
Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue is contemplating ending his 17-year reign as commissioner of the NFL. Tagilabue is expected to exercise a clause in his contract that would make him a "Senior Executive" consultant with a significant compensation package. Tagliabue has two year remaining on his contract that is believed to pay him between $8 million and $10 million through May of 2008. It is possible he will make his decision within the next 60 days.
Job well done in replacing the Rozell.
Tag's looked like crap yesterday after the meetings. Hopefully the NFL and it's fans will get someone that pickup where Tag's left off.

I wonder what chances that douchebag upshaw has at being the next commish?

Upshaw will be the next commish. Figure how the league is constantly searching for minority leaders/coaches. Perfect fit. And the press is making him a prince right now. Look out Owners! Here comez the playa!!

Tag's eyes looked sunken and exausted in one photo. It's time for him to go fishin', altho there is not much more than caretaking for the next 5 years. It was amusing to hear that while the owners were in a smoke filled backroom he was in Hawaii.

I think he has done a great job. Salary cap was implemented during his tenure, the league has exploded into the most popular sport in America under him, brought a great version of instant replay, and of course, there is their opening night. Always thinking forward as to how to improve the game.
I'll miss him as the commish, especially if Upshaw gets the job.

That could be just enough to get me to kick this NFL habbit of mine...

She's screwed this country enough. Leave the NFL alone. Not to mention she would distract me anouncing the draft picks. That face and those choppers oey vey!

Honestly, as much as I love the work Tags did with the league over the past few years, an injection of some youthful attitude might be a welcome change to me.
Somebody who would loosen celebration penalties, bring in full-time refs, create a more fan-friendly enviroment in player access etc. Of course, I realize the man treats the NFL like a corporation and rightly so, but I sure would like to see someone with a passion take the reigns.
How about Mike Ditka (I kid, I kid, or do I?)

Since Mike Tice isn't available, Ditka might make a good choice.

Ditka would definately win in a fight. Heck, an ultraminiditka would pound Tags into submission with relative ease. He's a Grabowski.

But what if it was a miniature Ditka? Say, vs the entire 1978 Pittsburg Steelers?

Why the sudden change in the winds? Monday night football gone. Free t.v. reduced and in some places gone. Salary cap (Contract lawyer) football getting more entrenched. Bigger stadiums. Higher prices. Turnover in coaches as a near annual event. Tenure means nothing.

Good or bad there has been a lot of change in the NFL lately. Where do you guys think the league is actually going at this point? How much larger can the NFL actually get?
