Nagin , Blanco, Bush , Brown , etc....... everyone is to blame yadda, yadda, yadda , But realy bothers me is Where is Sharpton ? Jesse Jackson ? I mean they was there right afterwards , but now the hard work has begun , they are no where in site ? These guys are the self proclaimed black leaders, they should be knee deep in the reconstruction of New Orleans ......... Maybe they are there and none of the liberal media covers it ? maybe I missed them on Tv the last few months .........either way , they should be leading the charge ..........

I disagree with Spider on almost everything but he calls out Dems when he feels they need it. Now he might not do it when you or I think he should, but that is not out of party loyality. It is because he really doesn't think they need it. But when he feels they do, he says so.

I don't know that anyone here (including myself) has all the facts and all the up-to-the-minute news on Jackson and Sharpton and their involvement in the post-Katrina process, so I don't think it's fair to judge until we do.

But if they were the leaders they claim to be shouldn't it be easy to know about their involvement on the post-Katrina process. Shouldn't they be on TV, bringing Bush and congress to task for being slow on getting the funds where they need to go?

Since when does anything like this ever get media coverage?
This is exactly the sort of thing the media doesn't want to know about.

I don't see either guy on TV very often.
Come to think of it, I haven't seen much TV footage from "ground zero" in NOLA and Mississippi since the immediate aftermath.
Reminds me of the media's coverage of Iraq - during the initial stages, it's 24/7 saturation coverage, then they lose interest and move on to Michael Jackson.

And I agree with you about the media having a short attension span. On the other hand what does that say about the American people? I mean they put on what draws ratings, so what does that say about us that Michael Jackson draws more ratings than Iraq.
I mean no matter how much different we view Iraq, I think people who have strong feelings either for or against it, know it is more important than the circus freak that is Michael Jackson.

Whatever it says, it's not good. I grew up watching real news on TV, so it's sad to see news stop being news and become infotainment.

Now there's something upon which I can agree with you wholeheartedly.
(Mark your calendar. ;))
I would rather gargle with broken glass than have to even so much as look at Michael Jackoffson.

ha! this coming from someone who never hesitates to accuse someone of being a bush apologist or defender when they say something similar about the administration on any given situation, no matter what the topic. totally predictable.

I dunno about the Revs Al and Jesse, but on Ed Gordon's "black" NPR show he's had several pieces on how and whether displaced black voters will get to vote in nawlins upcoming election, in which Nagin most likely will lose to a white guy. Right now, nawlins has prolly 60-40 white majority actually living there. btw, I'm planning on a trip down there next week. First time since Katriana. I don't think i have the heart to visit the Mississippi Coast though. Apparantly, it's just "flat" for about five blocks back from the beach.

see this is the point Bro , Sharpton and Jackson are leaders in the Black community , they should be making thier voices heard, they should be out front telling young Black men to get involved , rebuild thier community , help thier nieghbor , help a fellow American , It is times like these you need your leaders

Bad analogy.
We're talking about making assumptions before the facts are known.
Unlike Jackson or Sharpton, nearly everything Bush does is front page news, so getting the facts isn't that difficult.

B.E.T. for starters , Ebony mag for another , Talk shows like the View , Montell Williams , there are plenty ways of them getting out , Hell Denzell Washington even spoke out at a basketball game ......Hell have some woman come forward say she is knocked up with Sharptons love child , that would get the ball rolling

Jackson and Sharpton get very little, while Bush is front and center 24/7.

personally, I give the Revs Al and Jesse a pass on this one. All reasonable people should grasp that the only rebuilding path that bears any sense is to not rebuild the two all black wards that totally flood. Those areas have ALWAYS flooded. levies were breached at least once to PUPOSEFULLY flood them.
BUT, that course of action is a political non-starter in black political circles

i'd say that all three get coverage proportionage to their relativity to their role and actions affecting the political scene of america. just funny to see your reaction and alternating viewpoint on the press coverage of mr. prez.
