Tue, 7 Mar 2006 05:48:31 -0800
Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the three-year contract signed with the St. Louis Rams by DT La'Roi Glover is worth $12 million, including a signing bonus of $3.5 million.
In reality does Warren deserve a much better deal that this???

I realise that's a serious intangible but then again so is 5 Pro-Bowls to No Pro-Bowls.

Glover is not the player he once was. Big Money is better than him right now.

Signing bonus can be spread out over 4 yrs but he only signed a 3 yr deal thus he's averaging $4.2m per year although the 1st year cap hit will be a bit smaller than that.

Didn't Glover make the Pro-Bowl this past season, I'd say given Big Money's past his value shouldn't be a whole lot more than this but we all know it will be.

Making the Pro Bowl is based on rep more than performance, so I don't put much stock into that. Warren's value will be greater because he is still young and is coming off a very good year, whereas Glover is on the downside of his career and in his 30s.

You might not put much stock in pro bowl selections (I largely agree), but it comes into play with free agent signings.
However, Glover has signed quick, its obvious he's taking a low money deal before the market really gets underway. If there is no new CBA he'll probably be real happy with how this deal works out for him.
