Chiefs | GM says team unlikely to be active in free agency
Mon, 6 Mar 2006 16:14:20 -0800
Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson said he does not anticipate the team being very active in free agency. "Last year we went out and spent a lot of money on four or five defensive players," Peterson said. "The year before we didn't. Every year is a different year, and it's almost impossible unless you have an unlimited amount of cash and cap dollars to go out every year and spend a lot of money on unrestricted free agents. So probably even if there is an extension, we're not going to go out and spend a lot of money on our free agents in 2006."

Yes, according to Gunther they've already got the perfect player for their system in Kendrell Bell. How could they possibly top that?

I about died laughing watching KC at Denver last year and seeing Bell. He was big, slow and always three steps behind the play.

25th? Isn't that about where your pass defense dropped off to?
But hey, Baileys the best CB in the league.
Well.....minus the Browncos anyway.

There were several factors...altho the line could bullrush and collapse the pocket, we couldn't get sacks. Denver desperately needs an effective speed rusher, that's one reason Pryce was released besides his inflated pryce to production ratio. He thinks he's the man he was before his back injury...he isn't...(and Bell isn't the same man either...but when we were selling, you were buying Ha!)
Teams couldn't run on us tho...so they passed...Bailey fought thru injury till the end of the year...noone would throw on his side once he was finally healthy...then DW got hurt and they started picking on Foxy, who kept improving till DW got hurt and he simply got torn apart in the Hunt Trohpy game.
We have a ton of picks and some interesting prospects and I think a few will be legitimate NFL players. Next year, we will have two promising rookies back with experience, Paymah was improving, and likely either a FA pass rusher or green RDE taken high to push the edge at RDE.
Denver gave up more yards thru the air because teams were often playing from behind and couldn't run. This has been explained several times.
Denver played a B game and got upset by the eventual SB champions that played an A game. Denver's Defense is finally on an upswing IMO, our secondary in particular...the stats don't show it, but it's real.
Denver was 7th in overall defense.

If KC fans spent half as much energy on Arrowhead as they do coming up with these lame ass comebacks Arrowhead would have a roof before the draft.

I haven't heard anything about the Chefs cutting Bell other than Chefs fans wishing they would.
