Seahawks | Team agrees on eight-year deal with Alexander
Sun, 5 Mar 2006 19:44:37 -0800
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract with RB Shaun Alexander. The deal is reportedly worth $62 million and includes in excess a total of $15 million in bonuses and salary the first year. It is not known how the deal is structured with regards to how much cap space the deal takes up in the first year of the contract. Alexander was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent March 6.
Lot of $$$ with uncertainity in the NFL.

Either they've agreed to a new CBA or this deal is invalid. The most anyone is supposed to be able to get is 4 years but Alexander gets 8?
Something's not right.

You can only prorate a bonus for 4 years. Thus, the huge 15mill cap hit this year.

Deals can be for as long as both sides agree to

Espn news just broke FA deadline pushed back to thursday.
Smart move by Alexander. Any veteran would be smart to negotiate a reasonable contract right now. I think Pryce and Anderson will eventually regret not renegotiating their deals and taking a pay cut. The salaries they command, even with a new CBA, will be less than what the Broncos would have given them.

I hope the deal is structured so it makes it easy to cut him within 4 or 5 years. No way he remains effective enough to play it out...

I'm guessing that you can still make long term deals before the CBA expires, I think the 4 year caps go into effect if no CBA is in effect.

I guess I was the only guy who read the thread title and thought STEPHEN Alexander had left for the Seahwks.
