Bonnie Bernstein walked away last season from what many would consider a dream job — sideline reporter for CBS’ No. 1 NFL team — with three years left on her contract. Bernstein was embarking on a new stage in her life, triggered in part by the death of a lifelong friend and also by a mounting wall that seemed to be blocking her from career fulfillment. “If not now,” she said by phone Friday, “when was I going to make a change?” Bernstein’s friend, Scott Borenstein, had been a close confidant since middle school. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and though this has an 85 percent cure rate, it suddenly spread to his bone marrow last fall. He died just days after his 36th birthday. Bernstein instantly found herself re-evaluating her career path. “I just looked at my situation,” she said, “and I said to myself: ‘I’m 35, I’m single, I have no dependents. If I’m going to be happy, I have to make a change now.’ ” Bernstein decided to launch a fee-based business called Velvet Hammer Media — www.velvethammermedia.com — that pledges to examine the tapes and resumes of any aspiring broadcast journalist. She also offers this promise — she will examine each resume tape personally. Bernstein plans on doing sideline reporting for CBS Radio Sports coverage of the NFL next fall. “I’ll still be plugged into the NFL,” she said. “I’m not vanishing.”

Any one notice anything ummm suspicious about that logo?I think Bonnie walked away to start a female sideline reporter escort ring. Big money can get you a Jill Arrington or Erin Andrews. Or, if you're a little light in the wallet, Holly Rowe is always available.

They pledge to examine your resume and demo tape for a fee...well, they might want to examine the links on their own website first. Click the link under Bonnie's picture on the About VHM page.

No doubt.

Hot. Smart. Successful. Likes sports. Can talk to a man without acting like an idiot. Great smile. Beautiful hair. Women like her not getting married (when they want to be) is a real shame.

I work with a woman we just hired like that right now. She's attractive, smart and funny but decided she wanted to build a career reather than seriously pursue relationships. After several years she realized that her career wasn't giving her the things that were important - like a loving husband, Children to raise, a family. She quit her job and we hired her. I guess she figures that retail will give her more opportunities to meet people.

Anyway, good for Bonnie. She deserves to look for the important things in her llife.

Good for Bonnie. If I was 35, single and have no kids, I might welcome a career change to shake things up in my life...

Wait...I AM 35, single and have no kids...

DAMN...

Can't tell you how many stories I've heard like this. But, what do we expect. Women have been beaten over the head for the last 40 years to go out and have careers, and if they don't... they're a failure. Housewives are "less-than,"... you know the routine. So, now you've got this post-feminst mentality being questioned, and a lot of women are saying, "hey... having a family and kids is actually pretty cool, and if I can run the household and take care of the kids, even cooler."

Nothing against career women. That's great, too. But, if a woman (or a man, for that matter) wants to stay home and raise a family, and they can afford it... more power to them.

You might have had me interested if Melissa Stark was available.

Boy do I. It's ironic that the one thing Women can do that men absolutely can't has become the thing that feminists seem to attack the most. Families will give you way more happiness than any career will.

wow, BB is definitely fine.

Everyone has the opportunity to do what they want. I read this the other day and it has me definitely thinking differently.

She looks alot like mock's oldest niece Katy, a dentist.

She can go where her heart demands...everyone has different goals, but it does seem like this sideline reporting is incredibly demanding work...Ha!

They are on the air for about 90 seconds a game, if that. Throw another bimbo on the white line to give us info we allready know. "Cullpepper looks injured...duh..."

I could tell he shredded his knee as soon as the play happened.

I'm very close to doing the same... Being out on the road 90% of the time away from the family has been brutal. Looking to go local hopefully before the end of the summer.

hmmm, well I've not seen feminism as being inherently anti-family. But, no doubt women who work and raise children have conflicting time needs, more than a man, but even I choose to work in a less rewarding/fun job to avoid travel. I really don't see that Bonnie's got a good idea here. Maybe so, but I thought that people who wanted a career in broadcasting generally got an education in communications/english.
