View Full Version : PFT Reports CBA deal nearly done

UNION IS "IN LINE," DEAL "READY TO GO"

A league source with knowledge of the status of the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations tells us that all issues between the NFL and the NFL Players Association have been resolved, and that the only remaining sticking point is the dispute between owners regarding the extent to which revenue sharing will be expanded.

Said the source: "It is the rich Johnny-come-lately owners who can't figure out that they are making money because they own a team in a large market and not because they own a team."

Of course, the owners at the other end of the spectrum would argue that teams not in a large market should be required to try to earn as much money as possible before asking for revenues to be shared beyond their current extent, which represents 80 percent of all revenues.

Any proposal must attract the votes of at least a few of the 11-12 owners who are opposed to any changes to the current system of revenue sharing.

The disagreement arises from the growing disparity between unshared local revenues. Because the new CBA will determine the team-by-team salary cap based on a percentage of total football revenues, the teams making less of the money that isn't shared will see their player costs increases by revenues earned by the teams making more money in comparison.

One of the possibilities under consideration is a limitation on the amount of cash payments made in a given year above the salary cap. Such a measure will restrict the ability of the big-money teams to use their extra cash to lure free agents with signing bonus money.

PFT is FOS.

This deal isn't close to getting done. Gene is in DC and he say's he isn't talking until it's 60-40 in the profit sharing.

PFT back to it's crap. Have they responded to Mr JetTV.com's take on why the Jets havent anounced the Abraham trade to Denver?

Bunch of hacks.

Tags was probably going to give them the 2 percent all along.

The boys at PFT hate the Broncos and while they do seem to be right a majority of the time, they have their share of stupid moments. Interestingly enough, they always seem to sweep those under the rug or hope that no one mentions them. They get awfully defensive about everything they post, especially when they are right.

"No progress has been made, but we expect more discussions to take place before Sunday night," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

The league had no further comment.

So the league is saying that there will be talks on Sunday

..."I guess we can meet if they want to," Upshaw said after arriving home. "All I know is that they got up and said they had to have a conference and that the meeting was ended."

The league also ended the meeting Saturday saying that the owners had to have a conference. Sounds like the Owners have had a talk and come to some agreement between them, and now would like to speak with the NFLPA on Sunday.

To me, this sounds like something will get done on Sunday, but maybe I am just being hopeful.

No cat's for me dude. I trained my Beagle to chase the neighbors cat out of my yard and up a tree. That's comedy.

But lets stay on topic. PFT blows. They copy the same DAILY ONE-LINERS that Benmaller,KFFL,NFLMastermind and others use.

Mike Florio is a former employee of ESPN.com (he got fired for making up stories) then hopped around the net of a few sites. Then started PFT. He wrote a book about the QB of the future. Hell even wrestler's write books in today's age!

He's a lawyer over in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Two very bad things to be a lawyer and from WV. I live in Ohio about 2 hours from Clarksburg. So I have met the guy. He's a Steeler homer. Many in the Steelers organization thinks he's a leach. He has a few agents he gets info from. Hell some even give this tool bogus info. They know he will post it on his site. Thus stirring up hype for their players! So yes he has connections. But he's more of a uber fan with money and a gig that got him in the door. Look I've been in the Steelers training facility and I've been around many Steelers and a few Bengals. I just act like an adult around them and play it cool. Where he acts like a slimy tool trying to be friends with players.

He hates the Denver Broncos. Which he has told me to my face. He couldn't let go the Kordel AFC game.

Back in the summer he predicted that the Raiders would win the Super Bowl. He started a rumor that the 49ers would send the first pick in last years nfl draft to the Chargers in exchange for Philip Rivers! But it was all a lie. There were no talks between the 49ers and Chargers at all. He makes stuff up!

Look I've said too much.
Just read and believe what you want.

But if you want to keep up with sports rumors without having to worry about the site creating their own crap check out BenMaller.com Or just wait for me to post it.

NFL | Labor deal getting close?
Sun, 5 Mar 2006 06:32:39 -0800

Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, reports the NFL's labor negotiations took a dramatic turn overnight. Participants said the two sides were close to completing a deal. Gene Upshaw, the executive director of the NFL Players Association, said via e-mail early this morning that the parties had scheduled another meeting in New York and were "now in the area where we will get a deal. I think it may be there. It comes down to a few final points." The talks ended yesterday with the owners offering 56.6 percent of an expanded pool of league revenues to the players as compensation under a salary-cap system. Upshaw had dropped his demand that the players receive at least 60 percent, but he would not specify exactly what percentage his latest proposal called for. Owners have said they could complete a labor deal with the players without finishing a revenue-sharing agreement immediately. The compromise might be a provision in the labor deal to limit the amount of money that teams can spend above the flexible salary cap. A labor settlement would push next season's salary cap as high as $108 million per team and would alleviate the salary cap crunches being experienced by many teams.

THe source "Washinton Post" is. They state that a deal is close (but we have been hearing that all week). Where over at PFT Mike claims the deal is done.

PFT also claimed that the Broncos had already traded for Aberham, which we know isn't true. There are rumors that the teams have talked.

I believe that PFT takes a piece of info, like the Broncos and Jets talking about a trade, and makes it juicey by saying the trade is a done deal.

Every tabloid bases their stories on something. That's pretty much what PFT does.

No one knows anything yet. THe trade might have been completed pending the Broncos working out a contract with him. Or they might be waiting to see what happens with the CBA.

Maybe the trade was contingent on the CBA being passed. We'll just have to wait and see. Obviouisly there has been talks we just don't know to what extent.
