Player Position Gil's comments
Brad Smith QB Smith (6-2 1/8, 213) worked out again only a few days after participating in the Combine. Once again, he worked out as a quarterback, although his prospects in the NFL at that position aren't too good. He ran his 40s (4.52, 4.46) even faster than he ran at the Combine.
Sean Coffey TE Coffey (6-4 1/8, 216) ran his 40s in 4.62 and 4.64.

SOUTHERN METHODIST: MARCH 1
One thing that's different than past years is that Non-Division I-A players are eligible to be timed and tested on any college campus in the state in which their college is located, provided that the timing and testing occurs on the school's Pro Day and provided that a player has received permission from the school's pro liaison. Players can be timed and tested in the metropolitan area of his residence. At SMU, we had players from several different colleges show up. Thanks to Schoen, Highsmith and Hall, SMU's Pro Day started on time and there were nine scouts in all. It was held at a great facility to run in and the temperature was 85 degrees. The players all ran on fast FieldTurf.
Player Position Gil's comments
Rolando Humphrey DB Humphrey (5-9, 170), ran his 40s in 4.35 seconds with the wind and 4.45 against the wind (his 10-yard time was 1.41, and his 20-yard time was 2.50.) He bench-pressed 225 pounds 12 times, had a 37-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot broad jump. He completed the short shuttle in 4.16.
Alvin Nnabuife DB Nnabuife (6-0 1/8 210) ran his 40s in 4.59 with wind and 4.65 against the wind. He did not do the bench. Nnabuife had a 40½-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-4 long jump, and ran 10 yards in 1.56 and 20 yards in 2.26.

March 3, 2006
(11:00pm) Baylor's pro day attracted scouts from eight different teams - Houston, New Orleans, New York Giants, Carolina, Seattle, Indianapolis, Green Bay and Tennessee. Linebacker Colin Allred ran a 4.75 40. Other players working out included linebacker Jamaal Harper, defensive tackle Michael Gary, defensive end Montez Murphy, safety Maurice Lane, offensive lineman Lequalan McDonald and wide receiver Shaun Rochon.
(3:00pm) Missouri's pro day featured players from schools all over Missouri; Missouri State, Northwest Missouri State, Southeast Missouri State, Missouri Valley and Missouri Western State. 16 NFL team were represented.
Brad Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.13 seconds, and the 3-cone drill in 6.50 seconds. Smith isn't sure what position he'll play in the NFL. “I’ll play at any position I get drafted to play,” Smith said. “But I still believe I can be a great NFL QB. Today went well for me, so we’ll see what happens.”
An unknown who caught the scouts’ eye was Tarrence Rhodes, a cornerback out of Missouri Valley. At 6'2" he ran a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash.
(1:00pm) Omar Jacobs worked out in front of NFL personnel representing 12 teams during Bowling Green's pro day. The Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Seahawks, Texans, Buccaneers, Bengals, Jaguars, Browns and Colts were among the teams with representatives watching the work out. Jacobs said a few coaches told him he was good at the combine but "even better" here. Jacobs preferred the workout at Bowling Green with his former teammates over the combine. "I'm just more comfortable with those guys because you know what kind of hands they have and what speed they have coming out of their routes," Jacobs said. "I'm also more comfortable in my own place."
(12:30am) The following schools will hold workouts today; Florida International, Louisiana-Lafayette, North Dakota State, SE Louisiana, Sam Houston State, South Dakota State. The workouts will become more interesting tomorrow when Miami (Fl) and Texas A&M hold their workouts.
NFL.com has some notes from yesterday's workouts. Brad Smith, QB, Missouri improved on his 40 time from the combine, running a 4.52 and 4.46.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
March 2, 2006
(1:30pm) Bruce Gradkowski will not workout at the Toledo pro day. Instead he will attend the University of Pittsburgh's pro day on March 18th. The NFL now allows players to attend any pro day in a state where they live, provided the college where the pro day is held approves.
Daryn Colledge is looking forward to today's pro day workout at Boise St. He thinks he'll perform better then he did at the combine and said it was difficult performing the drills with the pressure and little sleep he was able to get. "The whole idea is the process," he said. "You've got to deal with the pressure of not getting enough sleep and not eating well. It's a chance for the NFL to see how you react to things when they aren't the best."
At the combine Colledge ran a 5.04 40-yard dash, had 21 reps of the 225 bench, and 32.5 inch vertical leap. He plans to do better on all these numbers. "I'll have the opportunity to take longer rests between drills," Colledge said of the difference between the combine and Pro Day. "There's only eight of us there and we want to have to perform before every single coach in the NFL.
Colledge said the teams who gave him a lot of attention in Indianapolis were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
(1:00am) The combine may be over, but the workouts continue. Most major colleges invite scouts and NFL personnel to watch their players work out in what is called a Pro Day. Players perform many of the same drills that were done at the combine. For some this is a second chance to show scouts what they can do, for other who weren't invited to the combine or chose not work out during the combine this is their only chance to make an impression.
Later today Ball State, Boise State, Florida Atlantic, Linfield College, Maine, Missouri, Northwestern, and Toledo will hold their pro day workouts. Top prospects expected to work out include; Omar Jacobs, Bruce Gradkowski, and Daryn Colledge

Some more stuff on UTEP's pro day. It seems Jacksonville is all over Thomas Howard.
Date: Mar 3, 2006
Seventeen different teams sent scouts and representatives to El-Paso this afternoon to watch the Miners workout out. While the star of the team, Thomas Howard, chose to lean on his terrific combine numbers, there is breaking news on the linebacker. Here are the results.
Offensive lineman Josh House, a two year starter and All Conference selection, measured in at 6'-3 1/4" and 297 pounds. After completing 20 reps on the bench and turning in a 5.55-forty, House posted an impressive 4.72-second short shuttle. The Indianapolis Colts spoke individually with House as did members of the New England Patriots organization, who've been monitoring House all through the off-season.
Coming off an injury riddled and disappointing senior campaign, receiver Jayson Boyd was physically impressive this afternoon. Boyd measured 6'-3.5"/222 pounds and completed his forty in a time of 4.56 seconds. Boyd then touched 35.5-inches in the vertical and reached 10-feet in the broad jump. Boyd, known as a "me-first" players was late in getting to his running events and then proceeded to drop a bunch of passes during the workout.
One receiver who was impressive was the Miners second leading pass catcher, Chris Francies. Measuring just under 6-1 and weighing 193-pounds, Francies clocked a 4.52-forty then posted a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-6-inch broad. While those numbers were not out of the ordinary Francies pass catching workout was, as he caught everything thrown in his direction.
Former UCLA-back Tyler Ebell was bigger then expected, measuring 5'-8.5" and 182-pounds. Ebell completed 15-reps on the bench the ran a 4.57-forty. He finished up with a 34.5-vertical and 10-foot-1-inch broad jump.
Like Josh House, the Indianapolis Colts were actively pursuing Ebell.
Finally, though he did not partake in the physical activity today, Thomas Howard was a busy man interviewing with teams. None more so then the Jacksonville Jaguars who cornered the rising linebacker with three separate scouts.

Interesting stuff. Rhodes out of Missouri Valley is the sort of guy Shanahan would be interested in. Big, fast DB.

I wouldn't mind taking a late round flyer on Brad Smith. That guy just knows exactly where to run to make BIG GAINS...

Thanks for the reports SoCal. I am about to jump on that brad smith band wagon too. I never thought much off him till this year when I saw how he did with a really crappy team. I don't think he is an NFL QB, but I do think he has a chance to become a very good WR, especially with that speed and size. He has great vision.

Brad Smith, Reggie McNeal, Michael Robinson, or eh em Marcus Vick in the 4th or later would be fine by me. I know that McNeal will probably remain a QB, but the other 3 likely switch positions. I'd love to find an Arnaz Battle, Boldin, Randle El, or Ward in this draft. I know the odds are against it, but who knows?

god I hate Brad Smith, the only time you would really hear his name in the heisman race was after he played NU. Hell this year the game before he got benched because he wasn't playing well. Then 500 yards of total O later he's a star again. I dont know how he did it
I agree with big guy on everything he said but damn Ive never been so happy to see a Mizzu QB leave ever!

Well wouldn't you feel much better after he put up a couple of 200 yard receivving games on the squaws and the faders? Maybe we'll all chip in and buy you his Missouri Jersey after that happens ;D

If he became a Broncos I would have to like him though :)

Besides Reggie Bush, Brad Smith was one of the most exciting player to watch last year. You didn't know when he was going to break one, but you knew that he was going to break one, if not a few, every game.
Deangelo Williams was sure fun to watch, too...
God, I hope DW2 becomes a Bronco. He would be so dynamic in this offense...

Though it was not the event this year it has been in the past, all 32-franchises sent more then 100-representatives to further test many of the Hurricane prospects. Several players stood while many teams were very active.
The biggest named general managers on hand included A.J. Smith of the San Diego Chargers, the New York Giants Ernie Acorsi and Terry Bradway of the New York Jets.
Here are the highlights:
Marcus Maxey: 41.5-inch vertical jump with a clocking of 4.40-seconds in the forty. Some had Maxey in the 4.3's.
Kelly Jennings: 12-reps on the bench and a 40-inch vertical. Performed very well in position drills and had the Jacksonville Jaguars very interested.
Sinorice Moss: 42-inch vertical and a 10'-3" broad jump. Ran routes and caught punts but did not run the forty as the left quad he hurt at the combine is still a problem. Moss clocked a 4.39 at the combine even though he slowed down at 30-yard mark after pulling his quad.
Devin Hester: Scouts clocked him at 4.41-seconds in the first forty then 4.28 in his second running. Hester has been telling people he was much faster. Later he was used at both receiver and cornerback. The St. Louis Rams were very interested.
Quadrine Hill: The Hurricane fullback was used at running back and looked good. He clocked a 4.53-forty, completed 16 reps on the bench and had a 38-inch vertical jump.
Orien Harris: After not working out at the combine, Harris did not distinguish himself today. He completed 25-reps on the bench, ran in the 5.05-second range and posted a 30-inch vertical. Teams are not convinced he can play in a 3-4.
Tony Tella: Ran in the high 5.3's during the forty and posted an impressive 4.8-short shuttle. Both the Washington Redskins and New York Giants spoke with him at length.
Javon Nanton: 4.76-seconds in the forty, 33.5-inch vertical and 22-reps on the bench. Worked out at linebacker and defensive end. The Denver Broncos and St. Louis Rams are very interested in Nanton.
Roger McIntosh: 4.55-4.60 in the forty.
Thomas Carroll: 16 reps on the bench and a 33-inch vertical.
Greg Threat: High 4.5's in the forty, 35-inch vertical and just 10-reps on the bench.
Eric Winston: Just 22 reps on the bench with a solid 33-inch vertical.
Leon Williams: 35-inch vertical and 4.54-seconds.
Workout of the day? Kenard Davis, track guy/cornerback. Ran a 4.25-forty, posted 41.5 inches in the vertical and completed 16-reps on the bench.
Interesting note; receiver Ryan Moore, who decided at the last minute to spurn the draft and stay in school, has been seen anywhere near team workouts lately and there is some question as to his status.

SoCal - I'm too lazy to look it up. How big is he and give us a run down. I'm sure you would do better than most of the websites anyway :)

He's skinny, in the 240s or so. He actually used to be a track guy and they turned him into a DE so he used to be alot skinnier. Never has been much against the run. He was a great pass rusher off the edge in 2003, led the big east in sacks. Had a horrible 2004 and didnt stand out in 05 a whole lot despite having some decent sack numbers.
5th or 6th round consideration. Anything higher is a reach.

A little more from UM's pro day.
Approximately 100 NFL scouts and personnel representing every NFL team were gathered on Greentree Practice Field this afternoon for UM's pro timing day.
They didn't leave disappointed.
Among the highlights: A 4.27-second 40 time by Devin Hester, Sinorice Moss catching every ball thrown his way in pass-catching drills and backup Tanard Davis coming through with a 41-inch vertical and a 4.25-second time in the 40.
"I always like to get Miami players," said New York Giants General Manager Ernie Accorsi, who was the only GM at the event (no head coaches attended). "There's a competitive spirit here. They're winners, they work hard. I thought it was a great workout. Obviously Miami has great players."
The general consensus afterward was that most of the players that worked out improved their NFL stock.
"Nobody came out here and lost money, that's for sure," offensive lineman Eric Winston said.
The individual breakdown:
* Winston ran a 4.9-second time at Indianapolis and did not run today.
"I did well at the combine and didn't do much here," Winston said. "I did the bench press, vertical jump again and then I did the position drills with a couple of coaches."
Did he better himself today?
"Yes," Winston said. "I verticalled three or four more inches (he jumped 33 inches today), bench pressed 22 times (he didn't do the bench at Indianapolis). I didn't do a ton of work like some of the guys, but I got what I wanted done."
Winston hopes to go in the first round.
"I've been told I have a good shot for the first round," he said. "I'm excited about it. We'll see."
* Sinorice Moss ran a 4.34-second time at Indianapolis and did not run today. He also did not perform in the bench, but he turned in an impressive 42-inch vertical.
At 5-foot-8 and 185 pounds he's short in stature, but big in NFL potential.
"People say I'm short, but I can play football," he said.
Some experts are predicting Moss will be the second or third receiver taken in the draft.
"That's real exciting to know my name is up there," Moss said.
* Devin Hester, who ran 4.4-second times in Indianapolis, ran his first time at 4.41 seconds today. But his second 40 attempt wowed – he came in at 4.27 seconds.
The scuttlebutt around Greentree Practice Field today was that he had a case of the nerves for his first 40 before shaking it off and running the sub-4.3 time.
Why the discrepancy from Indianapolis?
He wore sneakers instead of cleats in Indianapolis.
"I had on tennis shoes," Hester said. "They said it would make me faster, but it didn't give me the explosiveness off the line."
Hester said he was "almost brought to tears" when he heard the 4.4 times in Indianapolis.
Hester is being looked at as a WR/CB and kick returner by NFL teams.
Does he think he did better on offensive drills or defensive drills today?
"All of them," Hester said with a smile.
Hester said the Rams have shown him the most interest so far.
"Their special teams coach was around me all the time (in Indianapolis)," Hester said.
Hester said he has no expectations for where he might go in the NFL Draft.
* Kelly Jennings did the broad jump, bench press (he did 12 reps), the shuttles, three-cone drill and position drills today.
He had a 40-inch vertical in Indianapolis and did not re-test in that.
"I think I've done some great things," Jennings said. "I think I've set myself up for a great opportunity."
Does he think he'll crack the first round?
"There's a possibility," Jennings said. "Depending on how the draft goes ... it's hard to tell."
* Orien Harris was timed at 5.1 seconds in the 40. He didn't do the bench (he did 25 reps in Indianapolis).
"Hopefully whoever gives me an opportunity, I'll take full advantage of it," Harris said. "Wherever I go I'll make the best of my opportunity."
* Marcus Maxey ran times of 4.36 and 4.34 in the 40. He benched 17 reps of 225 pounds and had a 41.5-inch vertical and a 10-9 broad jump.
"They wanted to see me get it in that 4.3 range (in the 40)," Maxey said.
* Rashad Butler didn't do the bench press today (he did 16 reps at Indianapolis). He ran the 40 today and had a 5.1-seocnd time.
"I wanted to get a 4.9," Butler said. "But I'll take it. I did pretty well overall."
Butler says he hopes to go on the first day of the draft.
"If I do that, then I did my job," he said.
* Thomas Carroll did 16 reps in the bench and jumped 33 inches.
"I think I worked out pretty well," Carroll said. "I feel real good overall. I think I impressed some people out here. It's a waiting game now. A couple of teams have invited me up for individual workouts, so I'm looking forward to that now."
Where might he go in the draft?
"I've heard as early as fourth, as late as sixth," Carroll said. "I think I helped myself today."
* Quadtrine Hill ran the 40 in 4.53 seconds.
"I ran a slower 40 than I expected," he said.
He also had 16 reps of 225 pounds.
"I could have done better on that," he said. "But everything else I did well."
Like his vertical, which came in at 38 inches.
Hill is being looked at as a fullback in the NFL.
"I probably impressed a lot of people, but I wish I would have done better on the 40," he said. "I did great on everything else."
* Roger McIntosh ran a 4.6-second time.
* Tyler McMeans did 17 reps in the bench press.
* Tony Tella ran a 5.4-second time and did an impressive 34 reps of 225 pounds and had a 30-inch vertical.
"It's not what I expected, but it was okay," he said. "I expected a little better."
* Leon Williams ran a 4.54 in the 40 and did 25 reps of 225 pounds. He also verticalled 35 inches.
"I think I did well," Williams said. "I was just out there running around, having fun."
Where might he go in the draft?
"I have some ideas, but I'm not going to talk about it," he said. "It's looking good right now. I just pray every night. Hopefully someone will call me first day, second day -- it doesn't matter."
* Javon Nanton improved his 4.9-second 40 from Indianapolis with times of 4.7 and 4.8 seconds.
"It was a big improvement from last week," Nanton said. "I came out here and it paid off."
He also did 22 reps of 225 pounds and jumped 33.5 inches in the vertical (he had jumped 28 inches in Indianapolis).
"I came home, had the support of my teammates and family out here, so that helped," Nanton said. "Hopefully I get drafted."
* Tanard Davis showed himself with a 4.34-second 40 in his first attempt that was followed by a 4.25-second time.
* Greg Threat said he hopes to be drafted after working out today.
"I did DB drills, backpedaling," Threat said. "I know what I can do, just went out and did it."
* Former Cane Kyle Cobia was among those working out for NFL scouts on the side after UM's pro timing day ended.
* Watching on during pro timing day was Deion Sanders and former Canes Antrel Rolle, Frank Gore, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Williams and Roscoe Parrish.
* Because UM doesn't have any top round one talent as it has in years past, there were no head coaches and little upper management personnel in attendance.
"This wasn't as big of a turnout as it usually is," Winston said.

Pretty funny that Cutler out benched Winston.

The benching test at the combine is a bunch of bull**** now.
Not even close to a test of the pressing motion.

MIAMI – It lacked the typical draft-pick bonanza of past years, but the University of Miami pro day still was heavily attended Saturday.
Every NFL team was accounted for, as usual, and one AFC personnel source said there appeared to be upwards of 100 onlookers for what has been one of the crown jewels of scouting in the last few years. But this year's crop of talent from the Hurricanes is expected to be much like last season's, which produced five draft picks but only one first-rounder in cornerback Antrel Rolle. That was a far cry from 2001 to 2004, a four-year span that produced a whopping 19 first-round picks.
"This year is more in line with [the 2005 draft] in terms of quality," the source said. "There are a lot of good players, but the abundance of first-round guys isn't there like it has been. The overall abundance is good. If you're talking about going all the way into round seven, there might be 10 draft picks. I think there's going to be at least one or maybe two [first-rounders] out of the group. You don't have that many people show up if there isn't at least one player worth [a first-round pick]."
The most likely candidates to go in Round 1 are tackle Eric Winston, cornerback Kelly Jennings and wide receiver Sinorice Moss, who have all impressed at some point – either Saturday or at last month's scouting combine.
With that in mind, here is the breakdown of several key players according to one personnel man's perspective Saturday:
Offensive tackle Eric Winston's draft stock likely didn't change. He didn't run but did some good work at his position and put up 22 reps in the bench press (which is about average considering his arm length). He's still likely to be a late first- to middle second-round pick.
Wide receiver Sinorice Moss had a nice vertical of 42 inches and showed some lower-body pop with a big long jump. He's got some explosion. Combined with his good overall showing at the combine and fast 40-yard dash (4.38), he has kept his hopes alive as a possible late first-round pick but likely will be a second-rounder.
Defensive tackle Orien Harris didn't help himself. Harris was clocked anywhere from 5.28 to 5.37 in the 40-yard dash. He didn't participate in the bench press but looked average for a defensive tackle in agility drills. He's quicker than fast, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He's still a first-day pick, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Harris slip to the third round.
Linebacker Roger McIntosh had a mediocre performance. He ran his 40-yard dash in the mid 4.6s and looked a little sluggish in the agility and quickness drills. He looks like a second- or third-round pick.
Cornerback Kelly Jennings didn't run the 40 (he posted a 4.39 at the combine), but he looked quick in the short shuttle. He put up average times in the long shuttle and cone drills for a defensive back. He's a second-round pick.
Return specialist Devin Hester ran in the mid-4.3s in the 40-yard dash, and showed impressive quickness and agility in the cone drills. He's a late second- to middle third-round pick

Minnesota Pro Day Info
Date: Mar 6, 2006
About 20 NFL teams were on hand to witness workouts by several Gophers looking for a shot at the next level.
Scouts from about 20 NFL teams—including the Vikings, Browns, Texans, Panthers, Jaguars, Titans, 49ers, Saints, Buccaneers, Colts and Patriots—watched several NFL prospects from the Minnesota Gophers perform Monday, there was one key person missing—Gophers running back Laurence Maroney.
Maroney, the only Gopher considered a first-round prospect, was not in attendance due to a pulled hamstring that he said was 75 percent at the NFL Combine in late February. At the Combine, Maroney checked in at 5-foot-11, 217 pounds.
Maroney, who is the 21st ranked player and fourth-ranked running back in the draft, according to scout.com, has been working out at Athlete’s Performance and said at the Combine that he’d work out for NFL scouts on his March 23 Pro Day. He has put on more than five pounds since the end of the season to dissuade speculation that he might not be heavy enough to be a featured back on the pro level.
Greg Eslinger, the second-ranked center in the draft, according to scout.com, and guard Mark Setterstrom did not run the 40, preferring to let their Combine times stand. Eslinger, who measured 6-3, 292 pounds in Indianapolis, ran a pair of 5.19 40-yard dashes, and Setterstrom, who measured almost 6-4 and 314 pounds in Indy, ran 5.41 and 5.47 at the Combine. The teammates did perform offensive line drills Monday, some of which were led by former Vikings head coach Mike Tice.
There was talk among some NFL teams about trying defensive lineman Anthony Montgomery at offensive tackle. Montgomery measured 6-5, 311 and did 22 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press Monday. He ran the 40 in 5.21 and 5.23 seconds.
Wide receiver Jared Ellerson ran 4.65 and 4.70 in the 40 and did 13 reps at 225 pounds. Linebacker Kyle McKenzie ran 4.68 and 4.65 in the 40, safety John Pawielski did a 4.7 and wide receiver Jakari Wallace had a 4.62 and 4.56 in the 40-yard dash.

Brad Smith can potentially lose a lot of money if he keeps up with his stubborn dream of being an NFL quarterback. The guy has great speed and would help his stock by switching positions...

Cards perform well on Pro Day
Joshua Tinch By Michael McCammon
Date: Mar 6, 2006
30 of the 32 NFL team's were on hand for Louisville's Pro Day on Monday as departing Cardinals such as Montavious Stanley, Jason Spitz, Joshua Tinch, Brandon Johnson, Montrell Jones, Travis Leffew and Antoine Sharp put their talents on display for the league's scouts...
Departing seniors, former players, coaches, scouts and even a handful of current Cardinals made up a sizeable crowd inside U of L’s Trager Center on Monday as the school held it’s annual Pro Day.
30 of the 32 NFL franchises were on hand to get a closer look at a number of Cardinals hoping to make the type of impression that might land them a spot on an NFL roster. Montavious Stanley, Jason Spitz, Montrell Jones, Travis Leffew, Jeremy Darveau, Joshua Tinch, Brandon Johnson and Antoine Sharp were among those putting their abilities on display.
“This workout means a great deal for me and guys like me,” said Antoine Sharp following some individual work with a few scouts representing the Cincinnati Bengals. “I’m trying to impress one of the [30] teams out here, so it’s really big for me.”
After watching six Cardinals having their name called in last year’s NFL Draft, all of this year’s hopeful rookies performed well on Monday, including receiver Montrell Jones, who was timed with a sub 4.4 40-yard run.
“I feel great,” said Jones. “I’ve received good feedback from the scouts and things like that, so I feel real comfortable with my workout today.”
Offensive lineman Jason Spitz, who turned in a strong performance at the recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis, felt that he improved his stock during Monday’s workouts.
“It went very well,” said Spitz. “I think at the combine I couldn’t have asked for better drill work and I feel that I did pretty good today too, so I think I helped myself out a little bit.”
All credited U of L head coach Bobby Petrino’s approach to preparation throughout the year as an advantage when it came time to perform certain drills requested by the numerous scouts on hand.
“I feel like Coach Petrino and the staff have done a great job getting the guys ready somewhat indirectly for a pro day or a combine, because we do these drills every day,” said Sharp.
For most, like local product Montrell Jones, the opportunity to display their talent to NFL scouts is yet another step in fulfilling a lifelong dream.
“It’s something that I have been waiting for all my life,” Jones explained. “I prepared well for today and I’m happy with my results.”
Hopefully each of their dreams of playing professional football will continue when they are drafted during the April 29-30 draft or sign a free agent contract shortly thereafter.
NOTES:
Cincinnati Bengal head coach Marvin Lewis was the sole head coach in attendance on Monday. The Bengals had the largest group of coaches/scouts on hand.
Senior defensive end Elvis Dumervil did not participate due to a hamstring injury. Dumervil will workout during a Pro Day held on March 24.
Broderick Clark, who has yet to receive word from the NCAA regarding a medical redshirt, turned in the workout of the day. Despite being just “80-85%” recovered from the knee injury suffered during the second game of the 2005 season, Clark ran well and caught just about everything thrown his way.
Former Cardinal quarterback Chris Redman also participated and appeared to draw interest from a couple of the scouts on hand.

It was a busy day for scouts around the nation as Wisconsin, Florida, Oklahoma, BYU and UNLV all took part in pro-days. Here are the initial reports from Scout.com. Check back for further updates.
Florida: Franz Beard/GatorCountry.com
Receiver Chad Jackson and defensive end Jeremy Mincey were among the 12 former Florida Gators working out for scouts from approximately 25 NFL teams at The Swamp. Players were measured and weighed, checked out in the weight room for strength and endurance, and then taken out on the field where they were timed in the 40, run through some agility drills and finally given a chance to do some individual work for the scouts.
Jackson didn't run the 40 Wednesday but he didn't need to. He's already turned in blazing fast times at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago, workouts that pretty much sealed him in as a first rounder. Basically he was there to look good and to run a few routes while C.J. Leak threw him some passes. When it comes to Jackson, the scouts were here in Gainesville to talk to Florida's coaches, check out some more film on him and to further handle some due diligence to check for any personal issues or history with law enforcement.
Mincey, a 6-3, 260-pound defensive end, had good workouts in Indianapolis but his 40 times Wednesday probably elevated his draft status to perhaps as high as third or fourth round. One watch had Mincey at 4.67 on his first 40 and 4.53 on the other. Most of the scouts had Mincey in the 4.65-4.68 range on the first run while there was greater discrepancy on the second.
Mincey is being projected by some teams as an outside guy in a 3-4 setup that will allow him to both rush the passer and drop off into coverage in a zone.
* * *
The fastest unofficial 40 time of the day was turned in by Dee Webb, who turned in a 4.38 on his first run and 4.31 on his second. Other unofficial times included Jarvis Herring (4.69 and 4.62), Vernell Brown (4.47 and 4.51), Lance Butler (5.29 and 5.27), Mike Degory (5.45 and 5.29), Randy Hand (5.27 and 5.23), Tavares Washington (5.22 and 5.10), Todd McCullough (4.99 and 4.91), Markell Thompson (4.90), Zephrine Augustine (4.59) and Tre Orr (4.63).
The 40 times were all hand held Wednesday so there was discrepancy. Some watches had Randy Hand as low as 4.97.

Just a little more than a week after posting a 4.60 and a 4.63 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, former University of Wisconsin star tailback Brian Calhoun ran a much-improved 4.38 at Wisconsin’s pro timing day Wednesday afternoon at the McClain Center here.
Calhoun, who weighed in at 204 pounds, also posted a 38-inch vertical jump, 4.0 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle and 6.78 seconds in the 3-cone drill.
Jonathan Orr reportedly ran faster, nearing the 4.30 mark while receiver Brandon Williams closed in on 4.40

Oklahoma:
Most of the top Sooners took part in today's workout, though some relied on combine results. Two players not invited to the combine, fullback J.D. Runnels and defensive back Eric Bassey, looked especially good. Here's a look at some of the participants.
Eric Bassey/DB (5-11.5/195): 37.5/vert, 9-8/broad, 4.41/4.33-forty, 3.92 20 shuttle, 7.07 3-cone, 17-reps/bench
Chris Bush/OL (6-3/305): 26.5/vert, 8-4/broad, 5.33/5.38-forty, 4.87/4.81 20 shuttle, 8.14 3-cone, 18-reps/bench
Dusty Dvoracek/DT (6-2/306): 9-6/broad, 4.81/4.81-forty, 4.51/4.47 20 shuttle, 7.59 3-cone,
Kejuan Jones/RB (5-7/185): 33/vert, 9-4 broad, 4.59/4.61-forty, 4.24/4.15 20 shuttle, 7.44 3-cone, 14-reps/bench
Davin Joseph/G (6-2/305): 4.73/4.73 20 shuttle, 7.75 3-cone,
James Moses/TE (6-2/244): 32/vert, 4.58/4.36 20 shuttle, 22-reps/bench

"Jonathan Orr reportedly ran faster, nearing the 4.30 mark while receiver Brandon Williams closed in on 4.40"
I have watched these guys many times. They are pretty decent receivers but I did not expect them to run that fast. Orr is probably a rd 3/4 guy and Williams a rd 4/6 guy, but with these times, someone could reach for them.
"Davin Joseph/G (6-2/305): 4.73/4.73 20 shuttle, 7.75 3-cone, " I'm in no way a Okie Homer, but I really like this guy as long as he is willing to play OG. He has been playing OT, but is OG in the NFL and will be a good one. Perfect choice for the Broncs in the second round.
"J.D. Runnels/FB (5-11/238): 35/vert, 10-0 broad, 4.54/4.54-forty, 4.25/4.30 20 shuttle, 7.00 3-cone, 28-reps/bench" Runnels is a damn good player too and can catch the ball. Pretty strong, but could still use a little upper body bulk to help his blocking. I can't see him being drafted by the Broncs though.
Wonder what happend to my guy Bernstein at Wisconsin - I know the Broncs don't need him, but he is a 265 pound FB who blocks like a 300 pound guard and is capable of carrying the ball and getting that one yard or more when you need it. He is one of those guys who is all heart and becomes a fan favorite because of his toughness, intelligence and great attitude.
Dvorchek and Joseph helped themselves out quite a bit I would imagine. I got my eye on both of those guys.

He never looked that fast in games, but maybe had he run that fast he would outrun the QBs ability to throw the ball. He would be a nice round 3/4 pick for the Broncs. He is not Evans or Chambers, but decent.

From GBN:
Hawk times seconded... Several reports have confirmed our earlier report that Ohio State LB A.J. Hawk, one of the top 3-4 defensive prospects for the 2006 draft, did indeed post some very good times at the Buckeyes' on-campus workout yesterday. Running on what is being described as a very fast track, Hawk posted times in the mid-to-low 4.4s for the 40 - at least one team reportedly had him under 4.4 - in the process besting a somewhat disappointing effort at the Combine where Hawk was clocked in at closer to 4.6 seconds. It wasn't quite as good a day for Hawk's OSU fellow LB Bobby Carpenter, who is reportedly still not 100% from a late-season leg injury. Carpenter reportedly ran his 40s today in times just under 4.7 seconds. Meanwhile, OSU junior WR Santonio Holmes did nothing to hurt his chances of being the first receiver selected this year when he blitzed his 40s in the low 4.3 range. CB Ashton Youboty reportedly timed in the mid 4.40 to 4.45 range. In another workout today, Nebraska OT Seppo Evwaraye emerged as someting of a sleeper at the position when the 320-pounder former Cornhusker ran a very impressive 5.05 40-yard sprint.

By TFY Draft Preview
Date: Mar 16, 2006
The Pro-day schedule is kicking into high gear as scouts criss-cross the nation and teams actively pursue talent across the country in preparation for next month's draft. Here's a look at some of the recent numbers.
Wyoming
Seven teams made their way to Wyoming's pro-day last week. The star of the show was cornerback Derrick Martin who significantly improved his combine time, clocking a 4.40 on a fast surface. Martin, whose been climbing up draft boards recently, is being hotly pursued by the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
Another player catching the Ravens fancy that day was receiver Jovon Bouknight. Running a pedestrian 4.75 at the combine, Bouknight broke the 4.55 barrier. Several on hand said his performance was good enough to move the large receiver/punt returner into the draft's first day.
Quarterback Corey Bramlet turned some heads with his workout. Measuring 6'4.5"/222lbs, Bramlet ran his forties in 4.69/4.71. Sources from the Cowboys program are convinced Bramlet possesses the tools to be a third passer at the next level.
Tennessee
For the most part the top Volunteer's available in April's draft ran at last month's combine, except for two.
Running back Gerald Riggs Jr. clocked a 4.50-forty weighing 229-pounds. The talented ball carrier, who did not run at the combine because of a bad ankle, also completed 15 repetitions on the bench. There have been several red-flags thrown up about Riggs past and many suspect he will drop far into the draft.
After being snubbed by the combine offensive tackle Albert Toeaina had something to prove yesterday. Weighing 328-pounds, ten-pounds lighter then what he showed up at the Senior Bowl, Toeaina ran a very fast forty and was timed between 4.80-and-4.94 by scouts on hand after completing 36-reps on the bench. Many were awed by his performance and Toeaina is being heavily pursued by the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Green bay Packers and Tennessee Titans.
Kansas
Cornerback Charles Gordon was able to improve on a slow combine time, running a 4.56 for NFL scouts yesterday. More impressive was his position workout afterwards when Gordon looked sterling during cornerback drills. The Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots have all set up dates to bring Gordon into their complexes for further interviews.
If there was any mystery as to what position the New England Patriots will be targeting early in April's draft it is no longer a question. The Patriots have been hot after a pair of west coast defensive backs. They are enamored with Fresno State junior Richard Marshall as the cornerback turned in a fast 4.44 at his pro-day workout last week. And there is history with the Pats and Fresno State players.
Another defensive back the team really likes is Donnie McCleskey, the safety from Cal. The Pats feel in their system, McCleskey can play cornerback.
http://nfldraft.scout.com/2/509350.html
Keep in mind that the combine is ran on turf, most pro day 40's on a clay track. Most scouts basically add .1 to pro day 40's when comparing to combine numbers, and looking at most of these numbers that sounds pretty accurate.

All eyes are on Austin, Texas as late this morning the Longhorns take the field and perform before a large gathering of NFL scouts. After shunning combine workouts Vince Young will finally throw the ball for NFL-decision makers. Here's the latest on the recently maligned signal caller. UPDATE: 5:10 PM
UPDATE: 7:55 PM
Also there was:
Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks’ coach Chris Palmer, Mike McCarthy of the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins GM Randy Meuller, and Rick Neuheisel of the Baltimore Ravens.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UDPATE: 5:10 PM
Floyd Reese of the Tennessee Titans, Charlie Casserly and Gary Kubiak of the Houston Texans, Jim Haslett of the St. Louis Rams, Ted Thompson of the Green Bay Packers and Nick Saban of the Miami Dolphins were among the big names in attendance.
Defensive tackle Rodrique Wright ran the 20-yard shuttle, hoping to better his time from the Combines.
"I had a good time but felt I could do even better," Wright said. "It was the last drill we did (at the Combines) and I was a little drained."
He posted an unofficial 4.47 shuttle, besting the 4.54 he had in Indianapolis.
Vince Young notched a 33-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-8 broad jump.
Michael Huff ran his 20-yard shuttle in 3.96 and managed a 6.84 in the three-cone drill. He also participated in secondary drills and looked fluid working out at both safety and cornerback.
"With the positional drills at the combine and my Pro Day, people will be able to tell whether I can play corner or not," Huff said confidently.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 3:50 EST
The report we received from the bubble at the Texas pro-day was Vince Young looked solid yet nothing special. His passing workout did not hurt his draft stock yet it did not move him into the top six picks. Jerry Rhome ran the workout.
Young worked out with a pair of slow receivers yet was late on his timing throws and really only threw one deep pass.
Tomorrow Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow will workout Young individually with receivers from the Titans.
Cedric Griffin had an outstanding day and too many, looked better then Michael Huff. Offensive tackle Jonathan Scott improved from a poor bench press and was solid during position drills.
We will keep providing the updates as they come in to us from Texas.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 2:10 EST
More then 100 scouts and coaches are on hand at the Longhorn pro day, as each team has sent close to four representatives per organization. Besides that, tons of media have flocked to the pro day.
A shocking announcement was made when the Longhorn strength coach told everyone on hand Vince Young would not take part in any of the running or jumping workout. After much booing and prodding Young ran a single 40 and was clocked between 4.59-and-4.61.
Jonathan Scott did not run the forty and only completed just 17 reps on the bench. Tight end David Thomas was able to complete 21 reps.
Michael Huff and Cedric Griffin did not run the forty, standing pat on their combine times. Each participated in the pro-shuttle, with Huff turning in a time close to 4.00 and Griffin clocking in the low 3.9 area.
Linebacker Aaron Harris was unable to break the 5-second barrier in the forty.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 AM EST:
Prior to last month's combine, we reported on the problems Young was having. His late decision to pull out of the Indy workouts were a direct result of poor practices.
Sources have told us things have not gotten much better. In fact we have been told Young has recently had some terrible workouts.
While the perception has been Young is working hard with former quarterbacks coach Jerry Rhome, we have learned the reality of the situation is much different. Sources confirmed Rhome has worked with Young for less than a week's time and there is concern about his accuracy and throwing mechanics.
His sidearm motion presents a challenge, yet the bigger problem seems to be Young's inability to release the ball from one consistent spot, which has his passes flying all over the place.
Worse yet is Young's inability to concentrate.
When pulled to the sidelines and taught how to run certain drills Young struggled to grasp what was being asked of him and rarely got drills correct on the first run-through. The opinion is the Texas gunslinger needed a lot of guidance running up to his pro day and has not received it.
Also of concern is Young's affinity for socializing, as many report seeing him out on the town nightly in Houston.
And while no one can predict exactly what will happen today, the early signs are ominous.
Another Longhorn who seems to have taken a lackadaisical attitude is tackle Jonathan Scott.
After a poor combine in which he ran the forty in 5.35 seconds, turned in a vertical jump of just 24.4-inches and did not lift because of a strained pectoral muscle, Scott needs a big workout to solidify himself as a top-75 selection.
Yet sources have told us his attitude has been quite to the contrary and Scott has put limited time into preparing for today.
The TFY Draft Preview will be providing updates all day long as they come in from Austin.

I still say this is Young's biggest problem. I have never seen a QB drop as many snaps as he did this year and many times he seemed to get distracted while a play was developing and then make a bad decision. I love his talent, but he has some problems with concentration. Has anyon ever checked him for ADD? Not picking on the guy, because he has great talent, he just has those issues.

IT that, and all the other small things that worry me about this kid. I really want to like him but he really scares me that if he ends up in wrong place that he going to struggle big time. Key are his release point and the way he throws that make me wonder if he will be successful in the league. I know that he's 6'5, but with his delievery he throwing like much smaller.

I'm not too worried about the throwing motion. Maybe the concentration issues were because he was bored with the college game. I don't have an answer. Again, he is a magnificent talent and I would take him on the Broncs any day. I just think he need some seasoning before he is thrown to the wolves in the NFL.

From NFL.com
Maroney's results :
Minnesota RB Laurence Maroney worked out March 23 on campus. Maroney (6-0 1/8, 215) ran indoors on FieldTurf. He ran one 40 -- times were anywhere from 4.47 to 4.49. He did not run the shuttles or the three-cone drill. He had a 35½-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-3 broad jump and 21 bench presses. Maroney did not participate in Minnesota's Pro Day on March 6 due to a strained hamstring.

Very nice for Maroney. He's probably still not quite full strength due to the hammy. Still, a 4.4-4.5 RB with a little bit of power and a good frame is worth looking into. At 6' and already weighing 215 lbs, it would seem that he could easily add 10 or more lbs and be effective. He knows the system and has proved that he can run the ball 30+ times... he's more proven in that department than anybody in college football right now. I think he had 2 or 3 games with 40+ carries last year. If it worked out to us taking Maroney w/pick 22 I'd be very happy.

Pro Day update and Player Notes: 3/31
By: TFY Draft Preview
Date: Mar 31, 2006
The final few pro-days are finishing off the '06 schedule as scouts, coaches and general managers make their way to USC for Sunday mornings workout. Plenty of news to talk about as several NFL teams have been very active, preparing to pare down draft boards.
Hawaii had their workout last week, the infamous Home Depot Center pro-day in Carson, California. This day is almost as well known for players from the southern California area who perform for scouts as much as it is of interest for the prospects from Hawaii.
Offensive guard Brandon Eaton surprised some with a 33.5-inch vertical jump though his forty time was disappointing. Eaton is unlikely to be selected in the draft yet his lower body strength and explosion impressed the scouts on hand.
One Warrior defender who stood out was Nkeruwem Akpen. Looking impressive at 6-feet-5.5-inches and 274-pounds, Akpen clocked a 4.96/4.89 for his forties, turned in a vertical jump of 34-inches and completed 22-reps on the bench. We spoke about Akpen, a basketball player at Hawaii, on our pre-season watch list yet he saw minimal action last year.
The good news coming out of Hawaii is both Leonard Peters and Melila Purcell each received another year of eligibility on the college field. Peters was a highly rated safety coming into the year yet tore his knee up against USC during the season's first game. Purcell, at one time a pass rushing terror, got his academics in order and hopes to right his game next year.
In other news from Carson, staying true to form the New England Patriots requested that Cal defensive back Donnie McCleskey workout out for the team at the Home Depot Center. The senior obliged and ran a pair of 4.69-forties.
The Oakland Raiders seem to like yet another San Diego State linebacker. After having great success with Kirk Morrison last year the team brought Aztec senior Freddie Keiaho to Carson and individually worked him out on linebacker drills.
We previously gave subscribers the heads-up about soon-to-be tight end Nick Vander Laan during our Senior Bowl coverage from Mobile. The former basketball player from Concordia, who started his career at Virginia, has been very impressive recently. Officially measuring 6-feet-7.5-inches and 275-pounds, Vander Laan recently timed a 4.95 and 5.10 in the forty, also posting a vertical jump of 31-inches. Scouts feel he could make a roster as a third tight end used in blocking situations and eventually develop into an offensive tackle. Many feel he possesses both the size and feet to handle the job on the blind side.
Is Vander Laan draft eligible? No one's made that decision just yet. He is two years removed from NCAA basketball eligibility and there is some thought he will just be put on the free agent market.
Even though they recently resigned veteran Jon Runyan, the Philadelphia Eagles still have a clear interest in USC offensive tackle Winston Justice. Individually working him out two weeks ago, the team is bringing Justice to the Nova Center for a visit in the next ten days. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also have shown a lot of interest in the big Trojan blocker.
Another player the Eagles have closely monitored is Florida receiver Chad Jackson. Andy Reid individually worked out the big pass catcher and interviewed him afterwards, coming away very impressed. So did Nick Saban of the Miami Dolphins as the team has twice sat down with Jackson.
Add the New England Patriots to the list of organizations who have highly considered Jackson. Sources have told us if the receiver starts to slide don't be surprised if New England trades up to secure his services.
Other notes on player interests.
Daniel Bullocks has been heavily scouted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders. Both the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons have sent full coaching staffs to workout the Nebraska safety.
Mike Bell is getting long looks from the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Giants as well as the Washington Redskins.
The Colts sent a staff to individually workout Wyoming quarterback Corey Bramlet. They compare Bramlet to a "poor man's Peyton Manning" and specifically like him as a third quarterback who can break down film for the organizations franchise signal caller.
Richard Marshall is getting a lot of consideration from the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
DB will sure like that. :)
In other news, im glad to see Leonard Peters getting another year of eligibility. I was going to sign him in our UDFA round above. He is a major sleeper and a great FS prospect.

Matt Leinart 37" vert
William Buchanon 4.38 40
Dom Byrd 36.5" vert, 16 reps, 4.81/4.79 40
Deuce Lutui 32" vert, 26 reps
Winston Justice 38 reps, 39" vert, ran but pulled up with a calf cramp
LenDale White has a sore hammy and is not running. That could hurt. No word on if he'll have an individual workout later on to show his speed. If he doesn't run at all, that could hurt his stock quite a bit.
Byrd's 40 likely pushes him to the 3rd round. Bing's 40 - at least the 4.53 is OK, doesn't help/hurt him too much. Justice's reps and vertical are excellent for a big guy.

Has there been any word on Bloom's Pro Day?
I havent seen any report on him from the site I generally go to, to get the reports but this was in PFT yesterday:
POSTED 10:00 p.m. EST, April 1, 2006
BLOOM GETS BUFF
Although former Colorado receiver/kick returner Jeremy Bloom opted not to run the 40-yard dash at his pro day workout on Saturday, Bloom got the attention of the scouts in attendance by tipping the scales at 184 pounds, up from 173 pounds at the scouting combine in February.
Bloom also bench-pressed 225 pounds 19 times on Saturday. In contrast, Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway, who goes 242 pounds and is regarded as a first-round prospect, managed only 16 reps at 225 at the combine -- three less than Bloom.
The workout in Los Angeles drew scouts from all 32 teams. Bloom also ran routes, caught passes, and fielded punts.
Bloom is expected to be taken in the fourth round of the draft. His perceived potential, and the success of undersized receivers like Santana Moss and Steve Smith, could prompt someone to take a chance on him at the end of the first day.

37'' vert for Leinart is pretty insane. I wouldn't have guessed he was that athletic. White may well end up being drafted by the Steelers in the back end of the first. He's costing himself big time! I wonder what he weighed in at... if he did weigh in?

Bing's time is kind of a surprise to me (I thought he was faster), well I guess I can say that Bullocks being as fast as he was is a shocker as well. Kind of like Washington last year. I didn't see that speed during the games. Still Bullocks had the third fastest 40 time for a saftey, its better if you count Huff as a corner. I'd be thrilled to death if we landed Bullocks but I don't see him falling to us in the second.

As we move closer to draft day, teams are starting to fly players into organizational facilities for one-on-one interviews. This offers us a critical indicator of exactly which players franchises are targeting. Here's news on the Brown, Lions, Raiders and another half-dozen teams.
A pair of defensive backs have become hot names and teams are lining-up for final interviews.
Fresno State cornerback Richard Marshall is making a big jump up boards. Too many thought it was an afterthought the New England Patriots would select Marshall in round two, as the team individually worked him out this afternoon for the second time in recent weeks. Now it seems the cover-man may not last that long. Sources have told us Marshall is now rated as a top five cornerback by a number of teams. The Miami Dolphins have a pair of upcoming visits with Marshall while the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs all have dates with the fast-rising Marshall.
The other secondary prospect gaining steam is Nebraska safety Daniel Bullocks. Some feel Bullocks could move into the very late part of round one. And though we think that's a bit early for his services, the fact is the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts, teams with selections late in the first frame, are both bringing Bullocks to their facilities next week. Same for the Detroit Lions, who have a second round grade on the hard-hitting defensive back.
Always looking for offensive line help, the Cleveland Browns will bring Tennessee Volunteer tackle Albert Toeaina to town in the next 10 days or so.
The Ravens, another team that needs blockers, have set up a date to bring USC guard Fred Matua back east.
Offensive tackle Joe Toledo, another Pac Ten lineman, has recently gotten a lot of play. Besides the Ravens and the Browns, the Steelers, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets have shown significant interest in the former tight end.
Finally, it seems the Oakland Raiders are set to take at least one linebacker in April's draft. Jon Alston is a player at the position the team has targeted. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has told many he feels Alston perfectly fits his 3-4 defense.
