View Full Version : Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Caught Napping

I guess being a Supreme Court Justice isn't all exciting. :yayaya:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/3/3/123132.shtml?s=ic

Political redistricting is a tedious legal issue. So tedious, in fact, that Associate Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg apparently fell asleep during oral argument in the Court’s review of a controversial Texas redistricting plan directed by Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, in 2003.

The Associated Press reported that Ginsburg had difficulty staying tuned to the details of the hearing: "The subject matter was extremely technical, and near the end of the argument Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dozed in her chair. Justices Souter and Samuel Alito, who flank the 72-year-old, looked at her but did not give her a nudge.”

The Court’s sketch artist drew a humorous picture of the hearing, featuring Ginsburg with her forehead planted firmly on the bar in front of her seat.

Fox News Channel reporter Megyn Kendall highlighted Ginsburg’s "Supreme” napping ability during a segment on Special Report with Brit Hume.

Story Continues Below

"It is one of the biggest redistricting cases the high court has heard in years,” explained Kendall. "But the special two hour argument proved less than compelling to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who at time appeared to be, well, asleep.”

Expert observers told the Associated Press that the case could determine the outcome of the upcoming mid-term elections. "It’s conceivable,” said Mark Baden, a Republican lawyer with experience in redistricting, "that this case could swing control of the House of Representatives in November.”

That does it. We should encourage her to retire and replace her with still another judge who is "destined" to reverse Roe v. Wade...;D ;)

Yes I would mind , I am on dial up , it would take me hours to archive the stories . But News Max put out story about a super tanker Saddam dumped all the WMD , into and sent out on the Atlantic to hide , then they took another story from the Debka Files and posted a story that we had 1 of Saddams bodyguards in custody on told us the WMD were hidden under a seceret door in the desert , then Saddams Bunkers were built by some genius from germany and the the toliet paper roll holders were made of pure gold ....... It went on and on .....

I have never heard of anything, or read anything of that sort from anywhere before. I'm sure whatever you are referring to was reported from other sources, and not just Newsmax alone. Since you mind so much, I cant put much faith into what you say. So until I see undeniable stuff from you explaing how Newsmax deliberetely lied, I cant put much into what you claim.

I'm not surprised you and LABF hate newsmax so much. They are more conservative. So it goes without saying you guys would hate them, and knock their credibility in anyway possible. I dont think you would be someone I'd listen to when it comes to telling me Newsmax is full of hot air.

The fact of the matter is that all of us on both sides of the aisle are never going to agree on things like this. We all have places to which we get our facts and news from.

I'm not sure what a scholarship on any sort has to do with anything, but I like the fact that you will use any chance to poke at someone.

Of course you can't. We both have major differences in reasoning, and what we believe to be true. It's not a surprise. It's like how I cant believe anyone would listen to any Democratic Sen. tell us how to fight the war on terror...or lack there of, or how Bush lied about this and so on....

How about the Associated Press.

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/03/01/D8G35EHO7.html

"The subject matter was extremely technical, and near the end of the argument Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dozed in her chair. Justices David Souter and Samuel Alito, who flank the 72-year-old, looked at her but did not give her a nudge."

Big f'n deal. I wouldn't put the blame solely on her, I mean, if the attorney were even coming close to a compelling argument she might have felt the need to be a bit more attentive. Just tells you how much merit this case has when the Fader won't even stay awake for it.

Exactly. IF someone sees newsmax report something, it's best to get some corroboration. They've been caught out time and again. It's not the pt someone would read newsmax, or Mother Jones or the Freeper, it's taht they'd take them at their word.

no offense, but you are going out of your way to be an ass and miss the pt. Orielly or Hanpatty are no different that Hardball or any other talking head show. They're reporting THE OPINION of the guy running the show. It's an EDITORIAL. When the NYT reports a story, ro when Fox reports a story, while the spin will be different, the BASIC FACTS should be the same.

Newsmax simply spins their facts to report the OPINIONS of newsmax. It's like stupid **** for dummies like you.

You're starting to take this way to personal. I understand they are OPINIONS. I still watch them because I agree with their OPINIONS. I still read what I agree with. I dont just read one source, and stick to it. I read multiple sources, and make up my mind. We dont agree on it...so be it.

What is with everyone's obsession of college educations around here?

I find it amusing that the people who say, "Go get a college education," are the ones constantly misspelling words.

I have no doubt she fell asleep, but this is news? Hell, Thomas dozes or falls asleep in probably 3 out of every 10 oral arguments. I've seen it personally twice. The Justices (and appellate judges generally) almost always have their minds made up on the law long before argument. And if they don't - that's what the briefs are for. Oral argument is mostly just for show.
