The Associated Press reports the NFL has set the salary cap for the 2006 season at $94.5 million. League owners will meet in New York on Thursday, March 2, in an attempt to work out a new collective bargaining agreement. A new CBA could add anywhere from $10 million to $15 million to the salary cap. Teams also have an additional six hours to terminate contracts and request waivers on players. The original deadline was set for 4 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 2, but has now been pushed back to 10 p.m.

What if they can't reach a deal by 10pm?

That is what would happen if they can't reach a deal by 10 pm and then couldn't reach deals with ML and GW

Sorry Herc. Still trying to wake up for sleeping.

Ok so if now deal with these two the Broncos will have 12.5 Mill to work with in replacing DT,OT, and add maybe a T.O. or other big talent.

Sounds sweet. Get Sam Adams and bring back E. Salamn. Then make T.O. an offer. Draft wisely with the two #1's.

If there is a deal, then $10+M under the cap, another $12.5M if no deal with MS and GW, and CB, AW, JP and RS could save quite a bit of money if they restructure their deals.

TO baby!!!

Bring em on! Sam Adams would be fun. Draft a young guy, Sam takes 2 OL, then the rook only has to beat 1 OL. Sounds good to me. Plus the Ends can disrupt some things!

Salaam... hmmm. with a healthy Foster he could easily move to LT if LEpsis doesnt work out.

think about it for a sec. Guy can stop the run. (Look at our division)

And if he constantly takes 2 OL, the rest of the DL will have a field day assuming we dont get max protected against all season.

For starters the Broncos WS and M linebackers are undersized. That means having big D-tackles to eat up blocks will allow the backers to attack without having to engage a bigger blocker.

Speed isn't relevant for a DT in the Broncos scheme of defense. It's about taking up space and people. Giving the backers the glory of making the tackles.

yah well getting sacks is also rather irrelevant at this point in the broncos defense.

I imagine if sam adams gets double teamed on pass plays someone messed their assignment up, or we're rushing 3. he's a giant wad of slow.

one big fat slow guy is enough:)

That's the ends job. Ask Mr Pryce and Brown what happened there.

Hell in 2005 only one DT in the NFL had more than 10 sacks. If your looking for sacks from a DT then your really hurting.

HEAV
03-01-2006, 09:59 PM
Not to mention that Sam and Warren had 3 sacks each in 2005. Total tackles nearly the same. And that's with Sam missing two games!

So dropping big coin on Warren may not be the best option. I'd prefer to go cheap FA and draft a prospect to play in the rotation.

I like my dts to be capable of having an impact in the passing game. if we're just gna get two fatties stoned at the line cuz they're too winded and expect our de's to just work magic elsewhere(even though we have exactly zero stud pass rushing de's). I mean man.

btw rocky bernard could be a good pickup, he showed good rush skills for seattle in their rotation.

I'm still amazed at how both sides are fighting over 4% difference in revenue sharing.

Well 4% of 50 billion is 2 BILLLLLLIIIIOOOONNNN Dollars hu hahaha ;D

Seriously, the players are receiving a three tiered raise:

1. DGR turns into total gross revenues which brings another $480 mil or so a year into players coffers without the 3% raise. 480/1600= 300K out of each players pocket this year on average.

2. They are getting 3% more from revenues as well. The extremely lucky get 12% over their current income in the real world. Free agency can increase a players contract 1000% or more UNLESS an uncapped year falls into place where they are limited to 30% raises.

3. Their benefits also expand by a percentage of the increased spending.

RMN has always been crap with real numbers.

The DPO is lost without Adam. Bill Will. is a hack of information.

I trust Herc's numbers over both the rags in Denver.

That's counting Warren & Lepsis' deals that will void on Friday. They'll either give both new deals that will bring their cap numbers down from where they are currently or the deals will void and they'll create even more space.

The CBA negotiations are holding everything up, but the Broncos are currently under the cap.

I find myself actually hoping he gets relieved of his duties too. There are more pressing concerns he should have addressed before this came to bear.

You do need an Under Tackle that can rush the QB, but it is very helpful to have a big Nose Tackle to help push the pocket and stop the run.

ESPNNEWS saying 8 influential owners met with the commish tonight. They left New York unanimously rejecting the union's latest offer. I assume these are 8 of the "Gang of Nine" since they showed Kraft and Jones leaving the building.

The papers said they were $1.5M under if the cap turned out to be $95M and it got set at $94.5M, so that's where they lose $500k.

Big Money's much more effective than Bad Beer in the pass rush. Sacks don't tell the tale. But, Big Money did seem to slow as the season wore on.

He meant that their current cap hits are included in the $94m our payroll is currently at which is indeed right. Any new deals they sign will save money on this years cap, if they dont re-sign and their contracts void Denver get around $13m in cap space.
