"Kanye West (http://www.eonline.com/Facts/People/Bio/0,128,73029,00.html) fans were expecting to hear "Testify." Now they may have to do it."
That's a classic line right there.

Your catching on...Rap sucks. And it's barely music...noone said that...so I will...it's absurd, and every time some boom blaster comes down my quiet street to avoid the cops it pisses me off.
I could care less your opinion. Look...a punk came back packing a gun and shot people at a concert...fine...as far as the gendre...I could care less...just don't drive down my street at 5,000 watts making me listen to that crap.

rap is barley music? ok then whats country, every song a guy sings about losing his wife, house, car and dog its all the same.
Smiling Assassin27
03-01-2006, 03:25 PM
yes, but the musicality required to actually play an instrument exists in non-rap genres. ripping a riff from Van Halen, programming a repetitive beat, and talking over it does not.

There used to be a joke going around that if you play a country song backwards, they would get their wife, dog, and house back. Of course, that was in the era of records and record players...ROFL!

I'm a hip hop fan but not a big fan of Kanye. I dont like gangsta rap either. Hip Hop and rap like that to often at times gets mixed together and thats not right.
I listen to Common, Mos Def, KRS-One, Tali Kwali, and R&B, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Otis Redding.

See thats just being ignorant. People who simply say that more than likely havent heard anything but hardcore "gangster rap". Have you ever heard of the roots? jurassic 5? common? mos def? talib kweli? I doubt it. You more than likely have no idea the messages in their songs. You guys seem to be locked into a point of view that every rap song is about cars women and money. If you listened to some of the artists i mentioned youd realize its so much more.

Ha! What about Woodstock 96 when all those crazy kids looted and burned down the place? Can't blame that one on rap. And what about mosh pits at "rock" concerts where the kids beat the living crap out of each other? One kid died in a mosh pit beatdown at a Smashing Pumpkin's concert in Ireland.
I guess we need to ban "hardcore" music because stupid people i.e. moshers and gun totting hooligans can't control themselves.

ro 50...btw good choice in music. not sure where ottis redding or al Green..while being INCREDIBLE artists they are, have any merit in this convo.
I mean i love Jackie Wilson, Tempts, Four tops, Stevie Wonder ect..but they dont belong in this convo.
and YES rap is more than about bling bling and bitches and hoes. Its just a shame that THAT is the kind of rap that comes to mind cuss like I said, it's bubble gum disposable garbage that floods the airwaves.
Particulary Kayne West or 2Pac who rap about issues that, personally touch me. Life Goes on, Dear Mama, Roses, Hey Mama, Jesus Walks..spiritual stuff in general gets me. So yeah
Sorry about all the horrible spelling, on these boards, whilein an english major, i prefer to go with the online talk. :p

Well in general people who go to concerts are young testosterone filled young men, so violence is more likely to break out. And seriously, lets face it, its more prone at a Kayne West concert than it is a KISS concert, and its more likely to happen at a KISS concert than at a Cat Stevens show.
It's not being racist.
Neither are the guys who started the whole "Wwhat a suprise comment" but it gets taken that way.

Yea, I don't see too many 45 year olds moshing at a Kiss concert. Rap and heavy metal are equally as dangerous to go to.

Well not as far as moshing, but in anger you'd be suprised. Old guys trying to relive their glory tough days..and no im not talking about KISS lol.
They pick fights cuss one dude is looking at some other dudes slutty, this leather is too tight for my love handles looking wife and brawl ensues.
Or cuss the young whipersnapper like myself refuses to sit in a seat during a concert. Wants to stand up and enjoy it, and thus gets into arguments with old guy behind me

It happens at every rap concert. Stereotypical or not, I can gaurantee you, you will not find a rap concert in this country and, apparently England as well, where there isn't a single illegal gun in the whole place.
That's just ****ing la la land.

Thanks for enlightening me. I just thought it was about hos, pimps, rims, 40s, weed, shiney things (thats English for 'bling bling'), and, well, guns. Oh, and "killin the pigs and snitches."

Im over 40 yrs old and still go to rock concerts regularly...U2, RUSH, Aerosmith, etc.. never entered my mind that a gun might go off. If I were at a rap concert(highly unlikely), I would have eyez in the back of my head for sure..

Pantera Member, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, Among Five People Shot And Killed At Columbus Ohio Show
Dimebag Darrell Abbott, a member of the heavy l band Pantera, was shot and killed at a Columbus show when a gunman ran onto the stage and started shooting at the guitarist and into the crowd.
(NBC)
Five people died, including the alleged gunman who reportedly jumped on a concert stage and opened fire, NBC 4 reported.
The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Rd.
A crowd of about 250 people was inside for a concert by Damageplan, a heavy l band. Two former members of the band Pantera formed the group.
The band took the stage shortly after 10 p.m., and minutes later, a man, who was wearing a hockey jersey and hooded sweatshirt, began firing at point-blank range at least four times at guitarist Dimebag Darrell, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported.
Darrell Abbott, who was known as "Dimebag Darrell," was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported. Police released the names of two others who died. They were Nathan Bray and Erin Halk, both audience members.
"(The gunman) came on stage, from the back, like he knew what he was doing and went straight to Dimebag Darrell immediately," an unidentified witness said."
The alleged gunman reportedly shot and killed another member of the band before firing shots into the crowd.
Columbus police were flooded with 911 calls from concertgoers right after the shooting. Some witnesses said the alleged gunman took someone hostage. Minutes later, a Columbus police officer entered the nightclub and shot and killed the man, Anderson reported.

guns are everywhere. deal with it.
Another thing,
Anyone who claims to HATE rap/hip-hop is either
A) not a fan of music
B) probably a racist (think about it...)

Guns are everywhere deal with it? STFU.
A: Not a fan of music? Nice ignorant assertion.
B. Pulls the racist card: Not surprising.
Since I looked this up and it isn't a new event and I can't find much about it for some reason...who shot him?
BTW, that post appears over two year old.
